It was unbelievable and shocking.
We have just lost a prodigal movie director.
I first saw Yasmin Ahmad blockbuster movie "Sepet", about 4 years ago and instantly loved it very much.
Sepet is a 2004 Malaysian romantic comedy drama film set in Ipoh, Perak.
Sepet tells a tale of love that blooms between a Chinese boy and a Malay girl. Sepet is a Malay word which, in this context, refers to the 'slit eyes' of the Chinese.
The lead actor is Choo Seong Ng as Jason (Ah Loong.) The cute and petite Sharifah Amani starred as Orked - Jason's lover.
Surprisingly, the film achieved phenomenal success..
Sepet won the Best Asian Film Award at the 18th Tokyo International Film Festival in 2005, beating others from traditional Asian movies powerhouses and heavyweights such as India's Bollywood and Hong Kong as well as Japan and Korea.
Sepet also won the Best Film award at the 27th Créteil International Women's Film Festival in France and the Global Chinese Golden Arts Awards.
At the 18th Malaysian Film Festival, Sepet won 6 awards - Best Film, Most Promising Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay and Best Poster.
Normally i only watch Hollywood movies and selective Malay movies such as the late Seniman Agong Tan Sri P. Ramlee movies, Dato Rahim Razali and Ahmad Yatim movies, Sabah Film Production - Deddy M Borhan movies, Peristiwa Bukit Kepong, Azura, Jangan Pandang Belakang, Pontianak harum sundal malam and Senario the Movie Part One.
I am sorry to say but the rest of the Malaysian made movies are not enjoyabe.
But Yasmin Ahmad movies were not only explosive, entertaining and unique, but they have won many international acclaims and recognitions including at the famed Cannes Film Festival.
Apart from Sepet, Yasmin Ahmad also directed other blockbuster movies such as Gubra, Mukhsin, Muallaf and Talentime, her latest and last directed movie.
"Gubra" won the Best Screenplay award at the Malaysian Film Festival 2006.
"Mukhsin" won the Generation kplus - Best Feature Film and the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk Grand Prix award at the Berlin International Film Festival as well as the Best Asean Film at the Cinemanila International Film Festival 2007.
"Muallaf" won the Asian Film Award - Special Mention at the Tokyo International Film Festival 2008.
The cute Sharifah Amani featured in most of her movies... To me, Sharifah Amani is like Yasmin's own daughter.. Sharifah Amani, also won the prestigious Best Actress Award at the Malaysian Film Festival..
Adibah Noor is another regular actress in Yasmin Ahmad movies.
Having directed 6 memorable movies, Yasmin Ahmad left a legacy of her works in the film and advertisement arenas in Malaysia, thriving on the themes of love, family ties and humour against the backdrop of multiracial Malaysia, a truly One Malaysia..
Farewell to you Yasmin.... You will always be remembered forever... God bless your soul...
Argentine football legend, Diego Armando Maradona, will not like this news report.
The Guardian today reported that substantial amount of international tourists have cancelled their trips to Argentina as swine flu death toll in that country, reached 137, making Argentina the 2nd worst hit in terms of the virus fatality, behind the United States.
Currently there are 211 deaths, caused by the pandemic in the USA.
In Argentina, travel agents and airlines have reported a sharp drop in business amid concern that the death toll will continue to rise during the rest of the southern hemisphere's winter.
An unfamiliar quiet has descended over some of Buenos Aires's tourist quarters, with many restaurants and theatres closed or deserted. Ski resorts such as Bariloche, which are normally packed at this time, have rooms to spare. Hotels, restaurants, and shops said they were losing around US$150 million (£95m) weekly.
The vice president of Spain, Maria Teresa Fernández de la Vega, has decided to bypass Argentina on a forthcoming South America tour, reportedly because of the A (H1N1) virus.
The Brazilian airline GOL cancelled some chartered flights to its neighbour after passengers numbers dropped by half. Brazil's government has advised against travel to Argentina and Chile, also badly hit. Some travel agents have reported a 50 percent drop in travelers.
The British Foreign Office updated its travel advice to warn that Buenos Aires and 17 provinces had declared a health emergency. It does not urge Britons to stay away but is not exactly encouraging.
The authorities hope recent temporary restrictions will curb the epidemic. Schools, universities, cinemas, theatres, and gymnasiums were closed and pregnant women and children were among those urged to stay indoors.
The Catholic church urged worshippers to sit far apart, to avoid handshakes, and to take the communion wafer in their hands rather than directly on the tongue. Doctors urged people to not greet each other with a kiss and to not share mate, a herbal drink traditionally drunk from a straw and passed between friends.
The government said yesterday the worst may be over. The numbers reporting flu symptoms has reportedly halved in recent days. Theatres, which were shut for the past 10 days, said they would reopen this weekend but appealed to the sick to stay away.
I wonder wether the football stadiums across Argentina will also see a drastic drop in fans attendance??
I used to watch over the TV, football stadiums in Argentina are always jam packed whenever top teams in the Argentine league are playing.
Top teams include Independiente, Boca Juniors, Argentinos Juniors and River Plate - these 4 are like Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and my all time favourite - Liverpool in the English Premier League.
Say no to H1N1, say yes to Liverpool and Diego Armando Maradona.
The success of The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has made Megan Fox even hotter. She topped Heat magazine's Body Envy 2009 survey.
She beat celebrities like Cheryl Cole, Kelly Brook, Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, Beyonce Knowles, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Katie Price and Rihanna.
Well, in an old photo of Megan Fox, she was photographed wearing Motley Crue tshirt... So was she a fan of that hard rocking heavy metal group??
For the record, Tommy Lee, a drumer with Motley Crue was once married to the super sexy Hollywood actress - Pamela Anderson...
The CCTV footage dated 29 December 2008, at approx 3 am, showed the Liverpool captain in a fracas with a man in a pub in England. Well i think the guy who provoked Gerrard is a Manchester United or Chelsea or Arsenal fan. Well to me, he did that on purpose with one evil intention - to prevent Liverpool from winning the 2008/2009 English Premier League!!!
Above is a scene from the movie, Austin Powers, the small guy alongside Austin Powers is Minime, he is small and short right...!!
Well the video below features He PingPing, the 21 year old from Inner Mongolia, China who is officialy recognised as the smallest man in the world, standing at 2 feet 5 inches (73cm)..
So who is shorter here, Minime or He PingPing?????
Tran Van Hay may have the world's longest hair. At approximately 6.2 meters long the 73 year-old vietnamese man keeps it balanced on his head under a scarf and it looks like a giant turban. He unravels it for visitors and his wife lays it out on the table to show them just how long it is.
Two extreme worlds came together on the steps of Trafalgar Square in London when the world's smallest man met the woman with the longest legs in the world onSept. 16, 2008.
On that day, the 6 foot 5 inches (196 metres tall) Svetlana Pankratova from Volgograd, Russia, meets He Pingping, 21, from China, who is only 2 feet 5 inches (73cm)tall.
Svetlana Pankratova, 39, according to Guinness World Records, has the longest legs of any woman in the world.
While she is not the world's tallest woman, her legs are 132 centimetres (4 ft 4 in) long.
She has also very large feet, size 13 (US) / 46 (EU), making shopping for shoes difficult.
What if Svetlana Pankratova and He Pingping got married???????????
The CCTV recording was a mystery itself because the camera kept on focussing and following the movement on this suicide bomber guy.... normally a CCTV is stationary and will not move... so what does this imply???
This is an explosive AFP report quoting Michael Jackson elder sister - La Toya Jackson...
LONDON, Sunday: Michael Jackson was killed by a band of greedy hangers-on, his sister La Toya alleged in interviews with British Sunday newspapers.
The King of Pop’s sister spoke about her younger brother’s death and the aftermath with The Mail on Sunday and the News of the World weeklies.
“I believe Michael was murdered, I felt that from the start,” the 53-year-old said.
“Not just one person was involved, rather it was a conspiracy of people. He was surrounded by a bad circle. Michael was a very meek, quiet, loving person. People took advantage of that.
“Less than a month ago, I said I thought Michael was going to die before the London shows because he was surrounded by people who didn’t have his best interests at heart.
La Toya said she had ordered a private autopsy.
Jackson, one of the world’s most popular entertainers, died on June 25 at the age of 50.
“Michael was worth more than a billion dollars. When anyone is worth that much money, there are always greedy people around them. I said to my family a month ago, ’He’s never going to make it to London’. He was worth more dead than alive.”
Murder under Californian law can include killings that are not premeditated.
La Toya accused a “shadowy” group of cutting her sibling off from his family and friends and forcing him to sign up for 50 comeback concerts at London’s O2 Arena, shows billed “This Is It”.
They saw him as a “cash cow” and “got him hooked on drugs... I think it shocked his system so much it killed him,” she claimed.
“I am not going to stop until I find out who is responsible. Why did they keep the family away? It’s not about money. I want justice for Michael. I won’t rest until I find out what — and who — killed my brother.”
La Toya said Jackson was found in the bedroom of his physician Doctor Conrad Murray.
“Michael walked from his room to Doctor Murray’s room. What happened in there we don’t know,” she said.
La Toya said she was driving to see Jackson in hospital when her mother screamed down the phone: “He’s dead!”.
“I nearly crashed my car,” she said. “My legs went weak... They took me up to the area where Michael had been taken. Mother was crying and Michael’s kids were crying.”
She also claimed jewellery was missing from his house and no cash was found, despite the fact he regularly kept more than a million dollars around.
La Toya said the family had an open coffin viewing before the public memorial in Los Angeles’ Staples Center arena.
She put one of his sequined gloves in the coffin, while his daughter Paris, 11, put a one half a heart-shaped “mood necklace” around his wrist, keeping the other piece.
La Toya said it was Paris’s idea to speak at the memorial.
Of Jackson’s children, she said Paris wanted to be an entertainer, Prince Michael was “assertive”, while Blanket was “very funny, a real prankster like his father.”
La Toya said her brother would “absolutely not” be laid to rest at his Neverland ranch and added that Jackson’s brain, removed in the autopsy, had been put back in his body.
La Toya said Jackson wanted to give up music and become a film director. “The first one was to be a horror film called ’Thriller’,” she said. “’This Is It’ really was the end. He didn’t want to perform any more.”
She said Jackson updated his will roughly every five years, "so we expect another one to emerge from 2007". - AFP
Michael Jackson debuts the moonwalk during his performance on Motown 25 TV special, 26 years ago..
On March 25, 1983, Jackson performed live on the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever television special, both with The Jackson 5 and on his own singing "Billie Jean".
Debuting his signature dance move—the moonwalk—his performances during the event were seen by 47 million viewers during its initial airing, and drew comparisons to Elvis Presley's and the The Beatles' appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show.
The New York Times said, "The moonwalk that he made famous is an apt metaphor for his dance style. How does he do it? As a technician, he is a great illusionist, a genuine mime. His ability to keep one leg straight as he glides while the other bends and seems to walk requires perfect timing".
Instead of an encore of his own music, Stevie Wonder honored the music of Michael Jackson the day after Michael's death, during a concert in Kansas City, Missouri.
Stevie's daughter Aisha Morris is on his right (your left) and her concern for her father's anguish brought many tender moments during this historic performance.
Oprah Winfrey-Protege and Philippines singing sensation, Charice Pempengco was supposed to perform with Michael Jackson at the O2 Arena in 2 weeks time.
MJ himself saw her on Oprah Winfrey show last year and he asked Charice thru his manager to perform "Billie Jean" with him in London.
During her first major concert on June 27, 2009, Charice paid tribute to the KING.
Here's her emotional rendition of YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
On July 2nd, 2009, President Barack Obama told the Associated Press, AP that Michael Jackson was one of the greatest entertainers in history and said he still has Jackson's music on his iPod.
For the record, President Obama, born August 4, 1961 is younger than Michael Jackson, born August 29, 1958.
Undoubtedly, the most touching moment came at the very end of the memorial at the Staples Centre, when Michael's daughter, Paris Katherine Jackson, expressed her love for her late father.
The 11 year old Paris said " Ever since i was born, Daddy has been the best father you can ever imagine, and i just want to say, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH"..
That 27 seconds speech indeed touched millions of people around the world!!! Millions of people across USA, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania cried... Tears flowed..
Others who gave tributes and performances were Brooke Shields, Jermaine Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Magic Johnson, Mariah Carey and many other superstars.
Farewell to you Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. Rest in Peace... Your legacy will live forever and ever and you will always being remembred forever and ever... MJ, you are always in our hearts...
JOBY ROGERS is said to be the best impersonator of Michael Jackson.
He is considered the best, ahead of thousands of MJ's impersonators across the globe.
And it was reported that Joby was given the approval as the best impersonator by the King of Pop himself!!
Joby, is an American whose talents have gained him international recognition.
Apart from the approval by MJ himself, his list of credentials include an appearance on the Cover of ROLLING STONE magazine.
In 2004 Joby was personally approved in a signed statement by Michael Jackson as "The Best" Michael Jackson impersonator.
Joby has also appeared on national TV including MTV, VH-1, NBC, CBS, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jenny Jones, Ricki Lake, E! Entertainment, Comedy Central, and many more.
Joby has performed on tour in arenas, theaters, casinos and colleges for corporate and private functions both in the USA and internationally.
Joby also made appearances with celebrities such as B.B. King, Lenny Kravitz, Jon Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper, and many others.
In addition to that, Joby has also appeared in print media including Howard Stern's best selling book "Miss America", USA Today, London Now, New York Post, Forbes, Marie Claire and numerous other printed media.
Well, after MJ is gone forever, maybe we can look at Joby Rogers performances and talents as a remembrance to the King of Pop!!!
Joby is on facebook too.
Like many of us, Joby too was devastated by the sudden death of MJ.
