Malaysia Airports clarifies on the runway lighting incident at Kota Kinabalu International Airport

The closure of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport on Thursday, 25th October 2012 at 6.26 pm lasted until 9.30 pm Friday 26th October 2012

Approximately 6,000 passengers were stranded at the KKIA and other destinations in Malaysia as well as international flights, involving almost 40 flights

Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha

Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman

This is the official statement of the incident by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, MAHB.

On 25 October 2012 at 5.40pm, during normal runway inspection, the staff doing the inspection found that the runway lights were dim and not up to the required brightness. At 6.10pm the air traffic controller confirmed that the lights were dim.

As such, due to safety reasons, immediate action was taken by MAHB to request that the runway be closed for further investigation of the runway lights. All airlines were immediately informed of this closure.

The engineers straight-away proceeded to inspect all the runway lighting cables and suspected that the dim lights could be due to electrical current leakage in the old cables which are in the process of being replaced by the contractor. This is part of the overall upgrading of the airport facilities including terminal, runway, taxiway and apron under the Redevelopment Project of KKIA undertaken by the government to provide capacity for growth in air travel.

Efforts were made to identify the points of leakage in the 12 km cables. This process of identifying and rectifying the leakages took time. At 6am on 26 October 2012, all rectification works had to stop to allow the runway to be used for daylight operations which do not require runway lighting.

In the meantime, the sub-contractor was requested to immediately complete the installation of the new cables and lightings. However they could only commence work after the closure of the runway for night operations after 6pm. No work is allowed to be done on the runway during operations due to safety reasons.

As a contingency, it was decided that portable lights from various airports including TUDM be shipped to Kota Kinabalu. These portable lights were scheduled to arrive on flights prior to sunset to enable night operations on 26 October 2012. However, the arrival was hampered by bad weather. The full compliment of portable lights only arrived at 8.00pm. As a result of this the airport had to be closed for night operations from 6pm to 10pm.

However, the sub-contractor for the installation of the new cables and runway lights managed to connect and light-up the runway lights to enable the runway to be operational by 9.30 pm. The portable lights were therefore not required to be used.

The runway was declared safe for operations at 9.30pm on 26 October 2012 and was opened for commercial night flight operations. With the installation of this new cables and runway lightings and with the provision of back-up runway circuit, the operations are now running smoothly.

The number of flights affected in terms of diversion, delay and cancellation is 51 flights for the two nights. A total of 6,000 passengers were affected.

MAHB would like to thank Department of Civil Aviation, TUDM, Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia and other airlines for their support and cooperation during this critical period. Throughout the entire incident MAHB’s focus and priority was to minimize the disruption to the airlines and passengers, and everything possible was done to bring the runway to full operations as soon as possible.

Any inconvenience caused to airlines and passengers as a result of this is deeply regretted. MAHB would like to assure that with this new installation, operations are now running smoothly.

Meanwhile Malaysia's Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman were enraged.

Datuk Seri Musa Aman said :

This incident should not have happened. The problem should not have taken so long to fix. It has inconvenienced thousands of travellers and may possibly have affected Sabah's image as a tourist destination. The State Cabinet is expecting a full report from MAB and measures to be taken to ensure that this doesn't happen again in the future.

Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha's official press statement on the incident :

RUNWAY BLACKOUT IN KOTA KINABALU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KKIA) WILL BE INVESTIGATED

PUTRAJAYA 27 OCTOBER 2012- The reasons behind the blackout of the KKIA airport runway last Thursday will be thoroughly investigated according to Dato’ Seri Kong Cho Ha, Minister of Transport, Malaysia. Due the blackout many flights were postponed and cancelled, Kong was extremely upset with the whole situation that had caused a lot of uneasiness and anger among passengers who had planned their long weekend to celebrate Hari Raya Haji with their families and loved ones.

Kong firmly stated that no one would be spared based on the findings of the investigation with regards to this occurrence. Stern action will be taken on the careless party, whoever they maybe, individuals, local authorities or the airport operator. If there are elements of sabotage in the outcome of the investigation, then, a police report will be made and the case will then be handled by the police.

Kong reiterated that nobody will be protected in this occurrence, action will be taken on the party responsible for this situation. Her also urged the airport operator to ensure Emergency Response Plans (ERP) are in place so that occurrences like this do not repeat itself.

SINGAPORE, 17 October 2012 – AirAsia’s Group Head of Commercial, Kathleen Tan, was named as Web in Travel’s (WIT) ‘Marketer of the Year’ award winner at the annual WITovation awards ceremony today, held in conjunction with the WIT 'Unplugged' Conference 2012 at the Sands Expo and Exhibition Centre in Singapore.

The ‘Marketer of the Year’ award--an editorial choice prize--was presented to Kathleen in recognition for her remarkable achievements in building the AirAsia brand and for possessing great vision and leadership.

WIT, a renowned Singapore-based content and community platform for the travel distribution, marketing and technology space, also acknowledged Kathleen for being innovative and courageous in marketing strategies. She is also regarded for her passion and commitment and in particular, her breakthrough in cutting through the social media clutter of China with Sina Weibo.

AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes said, “I am very proud to know that an AirAsia Allstar has been recognized for her great work in driving marketing and innovation. It is an ideal recognition, as Kathleen is undeniably an excellent marketer. When she first came to AirAsia, I immediately put her on a plane and sent her to China to generate a market there. It was the best decision I have made, as she pulled it off outstandingly and we are now one of the biggest players in the Chinese market.

“She has her own style, doing things with panache. She took risks to expand our business but I trust her instinct and judgement definitely. Our rapid expansion is largely due to her marketing prowess and immaculate leadership, and we are very proud of her. Congratulations Kathleen.”

Founder and Editor of Web In Travel, Yeoh Siew Hoon said “While other airlines were wondering what to do with social media, Kathleen blazed the trail. With 1.6 million Facebook fans and close to 500,000 million followers on Twitter, as well as presence on Instagram and the AirAsia blog, the brand has created its own media assets which it uses to communicate and engage with customers. She maintains an active personal presence herself, engaging with fans, sharing her own travel stories and experiences.

“But it is in China where she’s been a standout. In a market that’s different and complex, she’s become one of the most followed travel personalities on Weibo under the name of Chen Kai Ling. She personally posts and replies to messages, holds fan events in cities in China and has built up a fan base of 149,000. She uses the channel to advertise seat sales with high conversions. She was also one of the first to stick her neck out on mobile, believing this is the channel of the future.”

Kathleen said, “It such a pleasant surprise for me to win the ‘Marketer of the Year’ award from WIT. I would like to thank them for the kind recognition and I will continue to do my best to position AirAsia as the leader in the digital travel space. We are an innovative airline, and one of our ground-breaking approaches is adopting the use of social networking platforms in our business.

“For us, a conventional method like direct push marketing, which utilizes one way communication, presents many limitations. By using social networking platforms, we are able to reach out to millions of people and acquire their feedback, which is essential to improve our services and products, plus establishing our brand further.”

AirAsia is always on the move in adopting innovative methods to boost its marketing capabilities via social media and enhance guests’ experience by presenting smart solutions platform. The airline is always ready to invest more in technology in order to adapt to the needs of their guests and for the benefit of efficient cost management.

Described as one of Asia’s top 10 most influential women leaders and brand advocate in travel industry, Kathleen started her illustrious career with AirAsia as Senior Vice President for Greater China. Barely a year, Kathleen was roped in to assume position as Regional Head of Commercial for AirAsia Group.

Under her dynamic and creative leadership, Kathleen has been pivotal in building AirAsia, an Asian brand to one that has become a global and powerful brand in the aviation industry, winning many global brand and digital marketing accolades.

Penggusti WWE, CM Punk, menumbuk peminat gusti

Superstar gusti dunia, WWE, CM Punk kelihatan menumbuk seorang peminat yang disangkanya telah menolaknya sebanyak 2 kali sebelum itu, namun CM Punk tersilap orang, peminat itu bukannya menolak Punk, dia sekadar tersentuh kepala CM Punk.

Akibat penangan CM Punk, peminat itu pecah cermin matanya akibat ditumbuk 2 kali oleh Punk.

Nasib baik CM Punk tidak mengenakan teknik penamatnya, GTS atau Go To Sleep ke atas peminat itu, kalau tak gerenti masuk ICU Hospital hehehe.

All the best CM Punk, WWE dan dunia gusti.

WWE Superstar, CM Punk attacks fan, 8th october 2012

On Monday night, 8th October 2012 in Sacramento, California, WWE wrestler CM Punk apparently went off-script during a sequence with WWE chairman Vince McMahon and backhanded a fan in the stands. The initial assumption is that it was staged — even a heart attack, is initially suspect — but a WWE statement released Tuesday afternoon, 9th October 2012 to Yahoo! Sports makes it clear this was not part of the show:

"During last night's Raw televised event, WWE Superstar CM Punk exited the ring into the stands as part of the show. WWE security was unfortunately not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punk's persona as a 'bad guy,' fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him and one struck in him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment. Other than this isolated incident, WWE always provides proper security to ensure the safety of our fans and our performers."

Amateur video of the event shows that Punk just flat-out lost his temper with fans badgering him. And, as is so often the case in these audience brawls, Punk apparently went after the wrong guy.

Laura Cole, a Sacramento CBS reporter, sought out the fan whom Punk decked. According to Cole's Twitter feed, the fan "says he never hit Punk," and that "his face is a little warm. … He also says Punk broke his glasses." Cole further noted that the fan was filing paperwork with local law enforcement.

So what went wrong here? As you can see in the above video, Punk was almost completely swarmed by fans in the stands. Still, he's got to figure that at a wrestling match, people might just be a little hyped up. So, yes, while a lack of WWE security might have played a role, fundamentally it's on Punk to keep in control.

All the best CM Punk.

Wawancara Lajim Ukin > Mengapa saya keluar UMNO

Apakah tiada sebab-sebab lain? Seperti pembangunan, contohnya.

Rakyat masih meronta-ronta mahu mendapatkan bekalan air bersih.

Sedikit contoh ini membuktikan bahawa kepimpinan Sabah adalah kepimpinan one man show.

Jika PR memperoleh Sabah, adakah Datuk calon Ketua Menteri?

Belum tahu lagi.

Jill Meagher, sad end to this lovely and beautiful Irish lady

A picture of Jill Meagher taken from her Facebook account, sdaly her beautiful life was abruptly cut short at the age of 29.

This crime, shock Australian and sent shock wave around the world.

A 41-year-old man Adrian Ernest Bayley, has been charged in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today charged with the rape and murder of ABC employee Jill Meagher.

Police investigating the disappearance of Ms Meagher found her body at the side of a road at Gisborne South, about 50km north-west of Melbourne.

Adrian Ernest Bayley, from Coburg, made a brief appearance in an out-of-sessions court hearing at 2:30am (AEST) and was remanded in custody to appear again later on Friday, 28th September 2012.

His arrest follows an investigation that began nearly a week ago, when Ms Meagher failed to return home after a night out with work mates in Brunswick.

ABC reporter James Bennett attended Bayley's bail hearing:

Bayley stared straight ahead as the bail justice explained to him that the allegations of rape and murder he was now facing meant she could not grant him bail.

Asked if he wanted the charges read to him, Bayley meekly replied: "No, that's fine."

When she asked him if he understood the charges that he was facing, he answered "yes" in a barely audible whisper.

Police held a late-night media briefing following Bayley's arrest.

It appears that CCTV vision made public on Wednesday, 26th September played a major role in the arrest.

In the vision Ms Meagher can be seen talking to a man wearing a blue hooded jumper as she walked along Sydney Road in the early hours of Saturday morning, 19th September 2012.

Police also said the extensive social media campaign to find Ms Meagher had helped in the investigation.

Ms Meagher's uncle, Michael McKeon, has released a statement on behalf of her family in Ireland.

"We are devastated. We are heartbroken," he said.

"She was the first grandchild my mother had, and her aunties, uncles and cousins are powerless to describe their loss.

"There are no words to describe how we feel at what has happened."

ABC managing director Mark Scott says the police announcement is devastating news for Ms Meagher's family, her friends and her many colleagues at the ABC.

He says she was an important member of the Victorian radio team and a vibrant presence at 774 Melbourne.

"She was widely known, universally respected and much loved, with a great career ahead of her," Mr Scott said.

"Our thoughts are with Jill's husband, Tom, her family and her friends.

"I know that ABC staff everywhere will want to send their love and support to Jill's colleagues who have endured such a terrible week only to face the reality of her loss."

ABC Victoria's local content manager, Cath Hurley, says Local Radio Victoria is deeply saddened by the tragic news.

"Our thoughts go out to Jill's family and friends, so devastated by the passing of this wonderful young woman," Hurley said.

"She was witty, intelligent and great company. Her friends and workmates at the ABC will miss her greatly."

774 ABC presenter Jon Faine paid tribute to his friend and colleague at the start of his show, saying her legacy is important.

"Jill's death must not come to define us. That is not what it is like to live in the Melbourne we know," he said.

"This is an exceptionally rare event. Its randomness is part of what is so incomprehensible about it."

Last moments

Police have been piecing together the last-known whereabouts of Ms Meagher since Friday night, when she declined an offer from a colleague for a lift home and said she would instead make the five-minute walk by herself.

CCTV footage shows Ms Meagher walking towards the apartment she shared with her husband Tom at 1:41am.

Six other people can also be seen in the footage, including the man in the blue hoodie.

Earlier on Thursday, another man seen in the CCTV footage, Dan Gregson, came forward after recognising himself in the vision.

He told police he did not remember seeing Ms Meagher.

On Monday a passer-by found Ms Meagher's handbag in an alley off Hope Street, not far from where she was last seen.

But on Tuesday police said the bag had not been seen during an earlier police search and they were investigating whether the bag was planted by someone involved in her disappearance.

Later that day forensic police conducted several searches of Ms Meagher's apartment and took a number of items away in sealed brown paper bags.

Tom Meagher made several appeals over the weekend for information on his wife's whereabouts and said he was going through "hell".

Family and friends had also created a Facebook page in the hope of finding Ms Meagher.

She was an Irish national who had been living in Australia for the past three years.

THE man charged with the rape and murder of ABC Radio employee Jill Meagher is a father of four who once worked as a pastry chef and has a history of using prostitutes.

The monster called Adrian Ernest Bayley

Adrian Ernest Bayley, who was known as Adrian Edwards before he legally changed his name 12 years ago, had been living in a granny flat in a quiet, tree-lined street of Coburg in Melbourne's north before his arrest on Thursday.

As neighbours yesterday expressed their shock at discovering the man they had seen but had rarely, if ever, spoken to had been charged over Ms Meagher's abduction and death, details began to emerge about Mr Bayley's life.

The 41-year-old had an emotionally and physically abusive childhood, and a violent and fractured relationship with his father for many years.

He did an apprenticeship as a pastry chef and has found work in that role over the years.
Digital Pass $1 for first 28 Days

US Aircraft carrier, USS JOHN C STENNIS VISITED SABAH, MALAYSIA, 30TH SEPTEMBER 2012

I am among selected few lucky guests who were invited abroad this gigantic war machine

Note the machine gun at the left, a warning to uninvited guests...

Lesson : Don't mess with the Americans

Imagine being on an aircraft that accelerates from zero to 165 knots in two seconds when taking off.

A group of local leaders and journalists from Sabah, East Malaysia, had this rare experience on- board a C21 utility aircraft that took them to the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis, 926km from here over the weekend.

The landings and takeoffs, which saw acceleration peaking at 4Gs, were enough to jolt and blow one's senses.

Weighing 97,000 tonnes, the USS John C. Stennis is one of the largest aircraft carriers in the world. It is more than 333m long and 20 stories tall.

Crewed by more than 5,500 personnel, it is capable of handling 90 aircraft, including the C21. The USS John C. Stennis is nuclear-powered and its mission is to conduct sustained air operations.

While onboard, the visitors, including state Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said and First Division Army Commander Major General Datuk Mohd Zaki Mokthar, witnessed flight operations, which included catapult launches and arrested landings or "traps".

Commanding officer Captain Ronald Reis said an aircraft landed on deck at full throttle. There were four arresting wires to stop a landing aircraft. This happened when the aircraft's tailhook caught one of the arresting wires.

He said a catapult was used to launch an aircraft at full power during takeoff.

Aircraft operating from the USS John C. Stennis included F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, F/A-18C Hornet, E-2C Hawkeye and the EA-6B Prowler.

The visit was arranged by the United States Embassy as a prelude to the aircraft carrier's three-day port call in Kota Kinabalu, beginning Sunday, 30th September 2012.

Don't mess with the Americans..

Let us pray for the 36 people who died in the Hong Kong ferry tragedy, 1st october 2012

Source : Reuters

At least 36 people died and dozens were injured when a ferry carrying more than 120 revelers on a company outing collided with another ferry and sank near an island south of Hong Kong on Monday night,1st october 2012, in one of the city's worst maritime accidents.

The ferry belonging to the Hongkong Electric Company, controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, was taking staff and family members to watch fireworks in the city's Victoria Harbour to celebrate China's National Day and mid-autumn festival when it hit the other ship and began sinking near Lamma island.

Survivors said they had little time to put on life jackets before the ferry flooded, trapping passengers.

"Within 10 minutes, the ship had sunk. We had to wait at least 20 minutes before we were rescued," said one male survivor, wrapped in a blanket on the shore.

Some survivors said people had to break windows to swim to the surface. "We thought we were going to die. Everyone was trapped inside," said a middle-aged woman.

HongKong Electric, a unit of Power Assets Holdings which is controlled by Asia's richest man Li, said the boat had capacity to hold up to 200 people.

The tragedy was the worst to hit Hong Kong since 1996 when more than 40 people died in a fire in a commercial building.

The other ship, owned by Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry Holdings, suffered a badly damaged bow in the collision but made it safely to the pier on Lamma, an island popular with tourists and expatriates about a half-hour boat ride from Hong Kong.

Several of its roughly 100 passengers and crew were taken to hospital with injuries.

"After the accident, it was all chaos and people were crying. Then water began seeping in and the vessel began to tilt to one side and people were all told to stand on the other side and everyone started putting on life jackets," a male passenger who was on the Lamma ferry told reporters.

SEARCH FOR SURVIVORS CONTINUES

Hong Kong is one of the world's busiest shipping channels, although serious marine accidents are rare.

The waters around Hong Kong were busy on Monday with numerous passenger ferries, private leisure boats and fishing vessels out to watch the city's fireworks, but it is unclear why the two ferries collided.

"Our ferry left Lamma island at 8.15 pm to watch the fireworks display out at sea, but within a few minutes, a tugboat (ferry) smashed into our vessel," Yuen Sui-see, a director for Hongkong Electric, one of the city's two main electricity generators, told reporters.

A spokeswoman for Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry said they were assessing what had happened.

"Our captain is not well and we have not been able to talk to him so far," the spokeswoman told local television.

A maritime department spokesman told reporters: "Normally vessels ought to stay and help other vessels in distress. But what we heard was that the other ship had passengers who were injured and needed help."

The nighttime collision sparked a major rescue operation involving dive teams, helicopters and boats that saw scores of people plucked from the sea.

Television pictures showed the red and blue bow of the Hong Kong Electric Company ferry pointing skywards, surrounded by rescue vessels. By Tuesday a large crane on a barge had been connected to the stricken ferry.

"We will continue our search. We also don't rule out that some may have swam to shore themselves and haven't contacted their families and so may not be accounted for," Ng Kuen-chi, acting deputy director of fire services told local television.

The search was hampered by the vessel being partly sunken, poor visibility and too much clutter inside the vessel, Ng said.

Teams of men in white coats, green rubber gloves and yellow helmets carried corpses off a police launch in body bags on Tuesday. Local media reported that children were among the dead.

At one of the city's public mortuaries around 50 grieving relatives gathered, some crying, while others were called into identify the dead.

More than 100 people were sent to five hospitals and nine people suffered serious injuries or remain in critical condition, the government said in a statement.

Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-ying visited survivors of the collision and pledged a thorough investigation into the crash.

Flags flew at half mast at Li's Cheung Kong Group headquarters in the heart of the city's financial district on Tuesday, as well as at government headquarters.

Thousands of Hong Kong residents live on outlying islands such as Lamma, which lies about three km (two miles) southwest of Hong Kong island.

God bless the souls and their families.

Setiap kali berlaku perang, Presiden USA akan kata where are the carriers?

Permerintah CARRIER STRIKE GROUP 3, LAKSAMANA MUDA CHARLES N GAOUETTE berkata :

"the benefit that we get from coming to kota kinabalu is we learn about other people, where they live, how they are, we get to see those people, & as americans this is one of the things we need to work on we tend to like large country we tend to focus on ourselves, so we have 5,000 people who are coming to malaysia to learn about you."

Lessons from this : Dont mess with the Americans!!
