The longest bridge in the world, Jiaozhou Bridge 42 km length, opens in Shandong, China
Looks like the Jiaozhao Bridge is the tallest in the world too, for it soars majestically high onto the clouds!!!
Fantastic Engineering Works!!!
10,000 people worked together for 4 long years to build this wonder of the world. In contrast 1 million workers died while constructing the 8,000 km long Great Wall of China.!!
300,000 road users cross this 42.5 km bridge daily.
450,000 tons of steel and 2.3 million cubic metres of concrete were used in the construction of the super bridge.
Well this is another wonders created in China after the Great Wall of China, the massive 3 Gorges Dam, the Forbidden City in Beijing and many other legendary structures in China.
This is the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province in China.
It is 42.5 kilometres long or 26 miles and links China's eastern port city of Qingdao to an offshore island, Huangdao.
The longest bridge in the world was designed by the Shandong Gaosu Group and opened to public on Thursday, June 30, 2011.
It is estimated that 300,000 road users utilise this bridge, daily.
It took 4 long years and 10,000 man power to construct this USD 2.3 billion bridge.
The Jiaozhou bridge which has 3 entry and exit points, transects Jiaozhou Bay, connecting Huangdao District, the city of Qingdao and Hongdao Island.
This mammoth project reduces the distance between Qingdao and Huangdao by 31 kilometres or 19 miles, cutting the travel time in half from over 40 minutes to about 20 minutes.
450,000 tons of steel and 2.3 million cubic metres of concrete were used in the construction of the super bridge.
It is designed to be able to withstand severe earthquakes, typhoons, and collisions with ships.
The bridge is supported by more than 5,000 pillars, 35 metres or 115 feet wide, carrying six lanes and two shoulders.
However the United States claimed that the Jiaozhou Bridge is not the longest in the world.
The original holder of the record, the Lake Ponchartrain Causeway in southern Louisiana, USA still claims to be the longest in this planet.
It makes this claim by defining the title according to how much of a bridge is physically over water, saying the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge is over water for 25.5 kilometres (15.8 miles) while Lake Ponchartrain Causeway crosses water for 38 km (24-mile).
Well, you judge...
Anyway another salute to China.
