Joyous Hari Raya Aidil Fitri in Malaysia, 30th August 2011










1 Syawal 1432 Hijrah or the first day of Hari Raya Aidil Fitri falls on Tuesday, 30th August 2011 in Malaysia.

Hari Raya is a celebration to mark the end of the one month fasting month during Ramadhan.

It is a double celebration of joy in Malaysia, as the nation celebrates its 54th independence day anniversary which falls on 31st August 2011.

Muslims throughout the country celebrated Aidilfitri in a joyous atmosphere with family and friends, since early morning, right till night.

They performed prayers at mosques, which is the first thing to do in the morning before hosting "open house" at home for their relatives and friends of various backgrounds and faiths.



The celebrations were truly in One Malaysia spirit as people of all races thronged their friends open house as well as those hosted by dignitaries.

Many Muslims here had returned to their hometowns and villages to celebrate the festival, leaving many major towns in Malaysia such as Kuala Lumpur, deserted and vacant.

However those who stayed back attended prayers in the city and held open house as well.

The Malaysian King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin performed Aidilfitri prayers at the National Mosque, along with 15,000 fellow Muslims.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, and several Cabinet ministers and foreign diplomats also performed prayers at the mosque.

The prayers were led by the grand imam of the mosque, Tan Sri Syaikh Ismail Muhammad and the "khutbah" or sermon was delivered by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.



After the prayers, members of the congregation took the opportunity to shake hands with Tuanku Mizan, Najib and Muhyiddin.



Tuanku Mizan and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah then held open house at the Istana Negara.

Hari Raya celebration in various parts of Malaysia including Sabah, Sarawak, Johor and Pahang also held in joyous and gracious atmosphere.
