A NATIONAL University of Singapore (NUS) law professor has been charged with six counts of corruptly obtaining gratification from a former student.

Court documents on Friday, 27 July 2012, indicated that Tey Tsun Hang, 41, is accused of obtaining gratification in the form of sex on two occassions – and other items such as a Mont Blanc pen, an Apple iPod as well as two tailored-made shirts from former student Darinne Ko Wen Hui, 23.

She had also made payment for one of his bills worth S$1,278.60 (RM3,227).

These were said to be inducements for showing favour in his assessment of Ko’s academic performance.

NUS on Friday, 27th July 2012, suspended Tey from his duties at the university.

“In light of the Attorney-General’s decision to file charges against Associate Professor Tey Tsun Hang, NUS has initiated an investigation and suspended him from active duty,” said a spokesman.

Tey was arrested in April, 2012 by officers from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), who were acting on a tip-off.

Ko, believed to be interning at a law firm overseas, was questioned by CPIB officers but not arrested.

The former student was said to have approached Tey for help in scoring a better grade for a course he taught, and supposedly struck a deal to have sex with him.
