A 41-year-old man Adrian Ernest Bayley, has been charged in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today charged with the rape and murder of ABC employee Jill Meagher.

Police investigating the disappearance of Ms Meagher found her body at the side of a road at Gisborne South, about 50km north-west of Melbourne.

Adrian Ernest Bayley, from Coburg, made a brief appearance in an out-of-sessions court hearing at 2:30am (AEST) and was remanded in custody to appear again later on Friday, 28th September 2012.

His arrest follows an investigation that began nearly a week ago, when Ms Meagher failed to return home after a night out with work mates in Brunswick.

ABC reporter James Bennett attended Bayley's bail hearing:

Bayley stared straight ahead as the bail justice explained to him that the allegations of rape and murder he was now facing meant she could not grant him bail.

Asked if he wanted the charges read to him, Bayley meekly replied: "No, that's fine."

When she asked him if he understood the charges that he was facing, he answered "yes" in a barely audible whisper.

Police held a late-night media briefing following Bayley's arrest.

It appears that CCTV vision made public on Wednesday, 26th September played a major role in the arrest.

In the vision Ms Meagher can be seen talking to a man wearing a blue hooded jumper as she walked along Sydney Road in the early hours of Saturday morning, 19th September 2012.

Police also said the extensive social media campaign to find Ms Meagher had helped in the investigation.

Ms Meagher's uncle, Michael McKeon, has released a statement on behalf of her family in Ireland.

"We are devastated. We are heartbroken," he said.

"She was the first grandchild my mother had, and her aunties, uncles and cousins are powerless to describe their loss.

"There are no words to describe how we feel at what has happened."

ABC managing director Mark Scott says the police announcement is devastating news for Ms Meagher's family, her friends and her many colleagues at the ABC.

He says she was an important member of the Victorian radio team and a vibrant presence at 774 Melbourne.

"She was widely known, universally respected and much loved, with a great career ahead of her," Mr Scott said.

"Our thoughts are with Jill's husband, Tom, her family and her friends.

"I know that ABC staff everywhere will want to send their love and support to Jill's colleagues who have endured such a terrible week only to face the reality of her loss."

ABC Victoria's local content manager, Cath Hurley, says Local Radio Victoria is deeply saddened by the tragic news.

"Our thoughts go out to Jill's family and friends, so devastated by the passing of this wonderful young woman," Hurley said.

"She was witty, intelligent and great company. Her friends and workmates at the ABC will miss her greatly."

774 ABC presenter Jon Faine paid tribute to his friend and colleague at the start of his show, saying her legacy is important.

"Jill's death must not come to define us. That is not what it is like to live in the Melbourne we know," he said.

"This is an exceptionally rare event. Its randomness is part of what is so incomprehensible about it."

Last moments

Police have been piecing together the last-known whereabouts of Ms Meagher since Friday night, when she declined an offer from a colleague for a lift home and said she would instead make the five-minute walk by herself.

CCTV footage shows Ms Meagher walking towards the apartment she shared with her husband Tom at 1:41am.

Six other people can also be seen in the footage, including the man in the blue hoodie.

Earlier on Thursday, another man seen in the CCTV footage, Dan Gregson, came forward after recognising himself in the vision.

He told police he did not remember seeing Ms Meagher.

On Monday a passer-by found Ms Meagher's handbag in an alley off Hope Street, not far from where she was last seen.

But on Tuesday police said the bag had not been seen during an earlier police search and they were investigating whether the bag was planted by someone involved in her disappearance.

Later that day forensic police conducted several searches of Ms Meagher's apartment and took a number of items away in sealed brown paper bags.

Tom Meagher made several appeals over the weekend for information on his wife's whereabouts and said he was going through "hell".

Family and friends had also created a Facebook page in the hope of finding Ms Meagher.

She was an Irish national who had been living in Australia for the past three years.

As neighbours yesterday expressed their shock at discovering the man they had seen but had rarely, if ever, spoken to had been charged over Ms Meagher's abduction and death, details began to emerge about Mr Bayley's life.

The 41-year-old had an emotionally and physically abusive childhood, and a violent and fractured relationship with his father for many years.

He did an apprenticeship as a pastry chef and has found work in that role over the years.

In extraordinary scenes, riot police were called in and formed a shield around the Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard as she made a hasty escape outside a citizenship ceremony.

Dramatic footage showed the flustered PM losing her shoe as her security escort ran a gauntlet through about 200 protesters from The Lobby restaurant near Old Parliament House — where Gillard had been handing out medals to emergency services representatives — to her car waiting outside.

The group had trapped Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott inside the restaurant until dozens of extra police, including the riot squad, were called to the scene shortly after 2.30pm (AEDT).

Protesters had been taking part in an event to mark the 40th anniversary of the nearby Aboriginal Tent Embassy when they surrounded The Lobby restaurant and banged on the three glass sides, chanting "shame" and "racist".

The two leaders, protected by police and security officers, escaped out a side door after about 20 minutes.

Protesters chased their car down the road, banging on its roof and bonnet.

The embassy was celebrating a 40-year milestone with a three-day "Corroboree for Sovereignty" with thousands of indigenous Australians travelling to Canberra for the occasion.

Tensions boiled over following comments Mr Abbott made in Sydney earlier in the day.

Mr Abbott said he understood why the tent embassy was set up "all those years ago".

"I think a lot has changed for the better since then," he told reporters.

"I think the indigenous people of Australia can be very proud of the respect in which they are held by every Australian.

"I think a lot has changed since then, and I think it probably is time to move on from that."

For many Aboriginal people Australia Day is considered Invasion Day.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon embassy founder Michael Anderson addressed a rally at the site.

"To hell with the government and the courts in this country. You haven't got a high hope to take us on," he said.

"We will force these issues.

"Too many of our families have suffered for some bastard to get in the road."

There were false reports Ms Gillard had been tackled by protesters as she was escorted to her commonwealth car.

A spokesman for the prime minister said Ms Gillard slipped as she was leaving the building.

Activists from the tent embassy accused Mr Abbott of inciting racial riots with his earlier comments.

Michael Anderson said the comments were disrespectful.

"He said the Aboriginal embassy had to go, we heard it on a radio broadcast," he told AAP.

"We thought no way, so we circled around the building."

He said the protesters wanted the leaders to clarify their position and whether Mr Abbott was serious about removing the embassy.

"You've got 1000 people here peacefully protesting and to make a statement about tearing down the embassy - it's just madness on the part of Tony Abbott," Mr Anderson said.

"What he said amounts to inciting racial riots."

Turun dari puncak Gunung Kinabalu tanpa kelibat juruiring, membawa padah. Ellie sesat dan hilang di puncak Kinabalu pada 16 Ogos 2001 dan hanya ditemui pasukan pencari dan penyelamat pada 23 Ogos 2001.

70 anggota penyelamat melakukan pencarian selama 7 hari berturut turut dalam keadaan cuaca amat buruk, kabus tebal, ribut kencang dan hujan lebat yang menyebabkan usaha mencari dari udara menggunakan Helikopter, tidak dapat dilakukan.

Ini kes ke 3 tragedi di Gunung Kinabalu selepas 2 pendaki dari Sarawak hilang dan tidak ditemui sehingga sekarang pada 1991 dan insiden sekumpulan komando British berpengkalan di Hong Kong yang hilang selama sebulan tetapi ditemui hidup dan selamat di Low's Gully.

Australian tourist gored to death by a Pygmy Bornean Elephant in Tabin, Sabah, East Malaysia

A trip to the wildlife wilderness in Tabin, near Lahad Datu in the east coast of Sabah, East Malaysia turned tragic for Jenna O'Grady Donley, 26, a Sydney-based veterinarian.

She was attacked by a Pygmy Bornean elephant, which was apparently startled by the sounds of Jenna's camera shutter and flash in the 6.30am incident on Wednesday, 7th December 2011.


Her woman companion and guide escaped the attack at the 123,000ha wildlife re-serve about 100km from Lahad Datu.



The 123,000ha Tabin wildlife re-serve about 100km from Lahad Datu, was opened in 1984. This is the first such incident.

Malaysian media reported that an Australian female tourist was gored to death by a bull elephant that charged at her as she was photographing it in Sabah's Tabin Wildlife Reserve.

This tragic incident happened approximately 6.30 am on Wednesday 7th December 2011.

Jenna O'Grady Donley, 26, a Sydney-based veterinarian, was attacked by the elephant, which was apparently startled by the sounds of the camera shutter and flash in the shocking incident.

Witnesses claimed that she could not flee in time as the elephant charged at her suddenly. Her woman companion and guide escaped the attack.

State Wildlife Department director Dr Laurentius Ambu said a group of women and their guide had gone to a nearby mud volcano and decided to take the wildlife trail on their way back to the resort.

Dr Ambu said the group had gone off the trail to take photographs of the wild elephant, which he suspected was a single bull.

Single bull elephants, he said, tend to be loners and were dangerous with their unpredictable behaviour.

Dr Ambu said the women had stopped about 10m from the animal and started taking pictures.

He said this might have provoked the elephant.

He added that the others escaped but the woman could not as she was the closest to the animal.

The woman's remains have been sent to a hospital in Lahad Datu.

The department's wildlife unit chief veterinarian Dr Sen Nathan said a team had been sent to check on the bull and to ascertain the situation concerning the animal.

“We have to check if the elephant was in a state of musth (when testosterone levels are high and the animal becomes aggressive and unpredictable) and see what needs to be done,” he said.

Dr Sen said this was the first time such an incident had occurred within the wildlife reserve although there had been two other cases of elephants goring humans in Sabah over the last decade.

Obama's secret security booklet found inside a Gutter in Canberra!!!

A CLASSIFIED booklet containing President Barack Obama's Australian visit schedule down to the minute, as well as details of his security convoy and the mobile phone numbers of dozens of senior US and Australian officials, was found by The Age on a Canberra street on 17 November 2011.

The booklet, Overall Program and Orders of Arrangements, for Mr Obama's visit, was found by the Age reporter in a gutter about 100 metres from the front entrance to Parliament.

One of Australia's top national security analysts, Alan Dupont, said the find represented a ''significant security breach''

''If that had got into the wrong hands, it would certainly put the President and some of his entourage at risk if someone could respond quickly enough to having the information,'' said Professor Dupont, who is the Michael Hintze chair of international security at Sydney University.

''Even if you were an ordinary crim, there would be a market for that kind of book, so it's not good news.''

The 125-page booklet is classified ''In-Confidence'' and its cover states the information it holds ''is not to be communicated either directly or indirectly to any person not authorised to receive it''.

More than 120 pages are dedicated to a minute-by-minute description of Mr Obama's schedule, and it even reveals which limousine door the President will use at events.

I suspect this booklet was accidently thrown or slipped from a person who is directly involved in the preparation of this visit.

It was not intentional.

''On a signal from the Presidential Advance Agents, the Prime Minister, [Australian ambassador to the US Kim] Beazley and [US ambassador to Australia Jeffrey] Bleich alight from their vehicles,'' the booklet states for the event at the Darwin RAAF base.

It also lists the ''seating arrangements'' for the presidential motorcade, the world's highest-security convoy.

It lists the exact breakdown of Mr Obama's Secret Service presidential protective division, including its ''Counter Assault Teams'' a ''comms vehicle'', an ''intel car'' and the ''Hammer Truck'' (Hazardous Agent Mitigation Medical Emergency Response). It is the Secret Service team that provides emergency medical treatment.

Then there are the dozens of mobile-phone and landline numbers for senior Australian and US military and civilian staff. The phone numbers included the mobiles of the US deputy ambassador Jason Hyland and the US consuls-general in Victoria, Sydney and Perth; a marine major who works as an embassy attache; three Australian air force wing commanders in Canberra and Darwin; and the Federal Police co-ordinator for foreign dignity protection.

''It's incredible,'' Professor Dupont said. ''It could be exploited down the track because it's got all sorts of numbers in it. And if you are somebody who could exploit that or sell it to someone who could exploit that, it could be serious because you could listen in to the telephone calls of people who are very senior.''

The booklet also names a long-serving member of Mr Obama's Secret Service unit.

Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard fails to curtsey to Queen Elizabeth II

Australia's socialist Prime Minister, Julia Gillard is under fire for failing to curtsey to Queen Elizabeth II on Her Majesty's arrival in Canberra for an 11 days visit to Australia.

The 50 year old Welsh born Prime Minister did not even bothered to wear a hat as a sign of respect.

Julia Gillard, a self-confessed republican, chose to bow instead. Monarchists describe Gillard's actions as 'churlish' and lacking respect. I am sure many Australians would have agreed to the Monarchists opinion. A curtsey can be done in 0.5 seconds, so what is wrong with Gillard?


Australian Governor General Quentin Bryce, who was also there to greet the monarch, did curtsey.

As a result, Gillard was forced to defend herself today, 20th October 2011 for her disrespect when she greeted the 85 year old Queen, explaining 'it's just not me'.

The leader of the Australian Labor Party, when asked on a Sydney radio station on 20th October 2011 whether she believed curtseying was demeaning, said: 'Some things are you, some things aren't.

'I made a choice and I thought I would feel most comfortable with bowing my head. The advice was - do what comes most comfortably and naturally.'

Miss Gillard, who was born in Wales and was taken to Australia with her parents when she was four, said she was an admirer of the Queen and believed many Australians held her in a great deal of affection and respect - 'and so do I'.

She added: 'I mean, what a life, what an incredible life she's lived over so many generations of change and to see someone play such a steadfast role over so much change, I think, is remarkable.'

But while Miss Gillard insisted she had not shown disrespect, Mr William Hanson, a British etiquette and protocol expert, told Sydney's 3AW radio that not only should she have curtseyed - she should have worn a hat.

He said: 'She is your prime minister, she is representing the people but the Queen tops her, the Queen is the top of the tree, so as a sign of respect, whatever her opinion on the monarchy is, she should have curtseyed.'

Game of death, 0.5 seconds separated a teenager from being crushed to death by a high speed train in Adelaide, Australia

Kids and people, do not try this at home. This is sure death. Only luck saved this stupid Australian teenager from certain death, sometimes in April 2011.

He played a game of death with an oncoming high speed train at Mawson Lakes train station in Adelaide, Australia and was lucky to be alive. Only 0.5 seconds separate him from life and death.



Disturbing security camera footage, recorded at the station and from inside the train, shows the stupid teenager running across tracks an diving across the path of an express train.

This stupid guy barely managed to scramble on to the platform.

Half a second late and the more than 10 tonne train would have smashed and crushed him to pieces beyond recognition as a second camera attached to one of the carriages reveals.

The dramatic video was released by Transport South Australia in the hope that it will deter others from taking chances with trains.

The crazy teenager, is only 17 and he would have meet God at that tender age if he was unlucky.

If he tried this again, he would certainly be playing this game in other world.

The teenager was lucky to escape with only a broken ankle.

For his stupid and sickening daredevil act, he was convicted in the Elizabeth Youth Court on charges of stopping a train in motion without a reasonable excuse.

He was ordered by the magistrate to undertake a community service order, write a letter of apology to the driver and pay the prosecution costs.

The incident, stopped peak-hour services for more than two hours while it was being investigated.

Waterfalls flow upwards in extreme winds in Sydney, Australia, 20th July 2011

When 2 forces of nature collide, the result is amazing, unbelievable and supernatural.

In southern Sydney, Australia, waterfalls flow upwards and not downwards.

These bizzare and mind bogling event was not caused by odd gravitational malfunction or reverse gravity.

But extreme winds forced the natural waterfall downwards flow to be reversed upwards.

According to the BBC report on 20th July 2011, the winds have reached speeds of up to 75 mph, easily lifting spray from the falls into the air, and even causing passenger ferries in the area to be diverted.

Banknote Scandal : Former Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Badawi denies attempts made to bribe him

PETALING JAYA: Former Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has denied allegations of attempts to bribe him in order to get his assistance to win a RM100million currency contract while he was in office.

The former Prime Minister who served between 2003 to 2009 said he had no recollection of anyone approaching him with such an offer and that he would have immediately reported the incident to the authorities, had it occurred.

"Under no circumstances am I obliged to respond to any unsubstantiated allegations of impropriety on my part.

"However, there is no truth whatsoever in the allegation as I cannot possibly remember of anyone approaching me with any offer.

"If indeed there was any, I would have immediately lodged a report with the regulatory authorities, including the police, for the necessary follow-up action," Abdullah said Tuesday.

According to a news report published in Australian daily The Age, the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) banknote firms were suspected of attempting to bribe Abdullah in order to get his help to win a AU$31 million (RM99.82million) currency contract.

According to the report, Abdullah was one of several highly influential Malaysian political figures whom anti-corruption authorities believed Securency and Note Printing Australia - firms respectively half and fully owned and overseen by Australia's reserve bank - allegedly sought to bribe using part of AU$4.2 million (RM13.52 million) in commission payments made to two Malaysian middlemen.

The daily said its Malaysian sources confirmed that the Australian Federal Police had gathered information about attempts to bribe Abdullah by Securency and Note Printing Australia.

The newspaper said it was made to understand that the attempt to bribe Abdullah related to contract negotiations occurred around 2003, the year he became prime minister and finance minister.

Abdullah served as prime minister until 2009.

The Age reported the alleged attempt to bribe the former Malaysian prime minister adds to the list of high-profile Asian politicians and central bank officials targeted by the RBA firms.

Australian police last week alleged Securency bribed Vietnam's former central bank governor by paying his son's English university tuition fees.



Last week, Malaysian authorities arrested a former Bank Negara Malaysia assistant governor accused of receiving two bribes from Note Printing Australia Ltd.



Datuk Mohamad Daud Dol Moin, 58, claimed trial at a Sessions Court to two counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM100,000 from a businessman to help procure a contract from the central bank.



The contract was to print RM5 polymer bank notes by Note Printing Australia Ltd.

Mohamad Daud was accused of receiving two bribes of RM50,000 from Abdul Kayum Syed Ahmad at Dome Restaurant, Bangsar Shopping Centre, on Dec 1, 2004, and Feb 16, 2005. According to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the contract was worth about RM95mil.

Jepun memang kejam, entah apa tujuannya mencetuskan perang Dunia ke 2 bersekongkol dengan Jerman dan Itali dalam kuasa Axis. Tiada faedahnya Maharaja Hirohito bersekongkol dengan Hitler dan Musollini.

Akibatnya, jutaan rakyat Jerman, Itali dan Jepun mati sia sia.

Ribuan lagi rakyat tidak berdosa iaitu orang awam, orang tua, wanita dan kanak kanak mati di Malaysia.

Kesannya?? Saiz negara Jepun, Jerman dan Itali sama saja. Tidak berubah menjadi lebih besar...

Apapun, kerajaan Sabah tetap menghargai pengorbanan tentera Australia di Sabah.

Satu upacara memperingatinya dilakukan di Beaufort, Sabah pada 22 April 2011 lalu, disempurnakan Ahli Parlimen Beaufort, Datuk Seri Panglima Lajim Ukin.













Menurut Lajim, Kerajaan Sabah melahirkan penghargaan yang tidak terhingga kepada usaha, keberanian dan pengorbanan yang dihulurkan oleh semua pejuang khususnya Australia semasa Perang Dunia Kedua.

"Kami terhutang budi atas pengorbanan dan keberanian mereka," kata Lajim pada ucapannya di majlis memperingati korban tentera Australia Perang Dunia Kedua di Tugu Peringatan Startevich di Beaufort pada 22 April 2011.

Lajim menambah : "Ia adalah masa yang sesuai dan wajar untuk kita balas kembali pengorbanan yang telah diberikan oleh askar-askar ini dengan mengadakan majlis memperingati perang seperti ini," katanya.

Lajim berkata Tugu Peringatan persendirian, L.T. Startevich itu adalah
tapak peringatan sejarah penting di Sabah, sehubungan itu, kerajaan negeri telah
mengisytiharkan tugu peringatan itu sebagai Tapak Warisan Budaya pada 1998 untuk
memastikan ia dipelihara selama-lamanya dan tidak diganggu oleh sebarang
aktiviti yang akan memberi kesan negatif di tapak itu.

Kewujudan tapak warisan sejarah seperti Tugu Peringatan Startevich telah
meningkatkan hubungan akrab dan jalinan persahabatan antara kedua-dua negara,
Malaysia dan Australia, katanya.

1. After three days in the Epworth Hospital, it was suggested that I be discharged but should continue treatment under the Hospital in the Home service.

2. The Home Hospital has a full staff of doctors, specialists and nurses. They will carry out the full hospital treatment, periodical medical examination and treatment, intravenous drips, physiotherapy etc. They do not stay with patients but would visit at the designated time and stay as long as necessary.

3. It is far better than house-call by doctors as they can only give limited service. You feel you are being well looked after as in the hospital, but you have the ambience of home and family.

4. I don't know if we have this service or not but I believe it can contribute to being a developed country.

5. Another service I experienced is the ambulance service. The two ambulance personnel are very highly trained to give first aid including CPR, proper handling of fractures, take blood pressure and heart rate, ECG and other signs and symptoms.

6. They handle their patients very competently, are in continuous communication with the hospital to ensure preparation for receiving the patients.

7. I believe an effort was made by local doctors to provide this kind of service in Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately after the ambulances had been acquired the financiers backed out. The Return on Investment was not good enough.

8. The Government does not operate a full ambulance service. Nor do all hospitals provide such service.

9. There are now many hospitals in KL - both public and private. A good ambulance service can save many lives.

10. Maybe the Government could afford to support the superior ambulance service in one way or another - at least until they become viable. What we need is just one. If several such service is licensed, all would be likely to fail.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, warded in Melbourne hospital with chest infection

PETALING JAYA: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be discharged soon from the Epworth Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, where he is being warded for chest infection.

His special officer Sufi Yusof said Dr Mahathir would likely be discharged within the next few days.

"Doctors are happy with his progress. He continues to respond well to antibiotic treatment and physiotherapy," he said Monday, 4th October 2010.

Dr Mahathir was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, 2nd October 2010, for flu and cough.

He and Dr Siti Hasmah have sent their regards and appreciation to all who had sent their prayers and wished him a speedy recovery.

Dr Mahathir was in Australia to address a seminar on human development organised by Melbourne Umno Club.



Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, 85 was born on 10th July 1925. He was the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia. He held the post for 22 years from 1981 to 2003, making him Malaysia's longest-serving Prime Minister, and one of the longest-serving leaders in Asia.

The outspoken critics of the West, Mahathir's political career spanned almost 40 years, from his election as a Malaysian federal Member of Parliament in 1964, until his resignation as Prime Minister in 2003.

Meanwhile today, Saturday 2nd October 2010, world news reported that the former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir, was admitted to the Epworth Hospital in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday morning, 2nd October 2010, for treatment of a chest infection.

He is now in the general ward for antibiotics treatment and physiotherapy.

"Dr Mahathir's condition is stable and he has been advised to rest. He is expected to be in hospital for a few days for observation," his office said in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur today.

Accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Dr Mahathir arrived in Melbourne on Thursday, 30th September to address a seminar on human development organised by the Australia Melbourne Umno Club at the University of Melbourne on Saturday, 2nd October 2010.

He was scheduled to share his opinion and idea on the topic "Are We Ready for 1Malaysia: Does Race Still Play a Part?"

(1Malaysia is a guiding principle to build a united and progressive nation in the 21st Century by inculcating the spirit and values of togetherness and sense of belonging, regardless of race, religion and creed.)

At the start of the seminar, the emcee announced that Dr Mahathir was unable to attend the event that he (Dr Mahathir) had been looking forward to and was disappointed that he was unable to do so.

He had asked International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed to address the seminar on his behalf.

Mustapa, when met at the seminar, said Dr Mahathir was resting well. "Tun needs rest and he is going to be fine," he said.

Dr Mahathir's son, Datuk Mukhriz, who is the deputy minister of international trade and industry, was expected to arrive here on Sunday to join his father, he said.

Dr Mahathir, 85, underwent coronary bypass surgery at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital in January 1989 and a second such operation at the National Heart Institute in September 2007.

Despite his age, Dr Mahathir, who is adviser to Malaysian national car maker Proton and national oil corporation Petronas, often travels abroad to attend international conferences as he remains a highly sought-after speaker at both local and international events.

"Keadaan Dr Mahathir adalah stabil dan beliau dinasihatkan supaya berehat. Beliau dijangka berada di hospital selama beberapa hari untuk pemantauan," menurut kenyataan yang dikeluarkan oleh pejabatnya di Kuala Lumpur.

Diiringi isterinya Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Dr Mahathir tiba di Melbourne, Australia pada Khamis, 30 September 2010 untuk berucap pada seminar mengenai pembangunan manusia anjuran Kelab Umno Australia Melbourne di University of Melbourne pada Sabtu 2 Oktober 2010.

Beliau dijadual berkongsi pandangan dan pendapatnya mengenai topik "Are We Ready for 1Malaysia: Does Race Still Play A Part?" (Adakah Kita Bersedia Bagi 1Malaysia: Adakah Bangsa Masih Memainkan Peranan).

Dr Mahathir, 85, menjalani pembedahan pintasan koronari di Hospital Besar Kuala Lumpur pada Januari 1989 dan menjalani pembedahan kedua di Institut Jantung Negara pada September 2007.

Walaupun sudah berusia, Dr Mahathir, yang merupakan penasihat syarikat pengeluar kereta nasional Malaysia, Proton dan perbadanan minyak negara Petronas, sering ke luar negara untuk menghadiri persidangan antarabangsa berikutan beliau terus menjadi pilihan pihak penganjur untuk menyampaikan syarahan pada majlis tempatan dan antarabangsa.

Miss Australia's national costume is a 'travesty'

An outlandish outfit designed to represent Australia at the Miss Universe beauty contest has been branded "a national joke" and "a travesty".

The costume, which will be worn by Jesinta Campbell at the competition in Las Vegas next month, features high-heeled Ugg boots, a brown one piece swimming costume hand-painted by an Aboriginal artist and a lamb's wool shrug. The ensemble is topped off by a voluminous flamenco-inspired rainbow skirt.

While Miss Campbell, 18, has said that she thinks the costume is "incredible", the pastiche of styles has failed to win many fans in Australia, and has been called eye-catching, but for all the wrong reasons.

Clare Maclean, fashion features editor of Australian Grazia magazine, described it as a "travesty", but admitted that bizarre costumes were part of the Miss Universe tradition.

"She's bang on trend with the shrug and boots shearling is very hot right now but the skirt looks like it was made for a flamenco dancer from discount fabric bin scraps," Maclean said.

Miss Campbell, who faces having to parade on stage wearing the outfit in front of thousands of viewers has defended the look, which was created by the Sydney designer, Natasha Dwyer, saying she was proud to wear it.

"Part of our Australian identity is our indigenous heritage and it was so important that it was included in the national costume," she said.

"An Aboriginal artist hand-painted my swimsuit, which is the base of the outfit, which is very special.

"I have a little sheepskin shrug, which I think is very Australian – very Outback."
