The worst soccer violence in the world, 74 dead, 1,000 injured in Port Said, Egypt, 2nd February 2012

They came to see a football match, but they ended up dead!!!

Egypt is no stranger to rioting. Riot like the Egyptians, some said. Even after long time President Hosni Mubarak was ousted by people's power last January 2011, the riots continue.

Even in soccer, people in Egypt will kill each other, just because they don't like the result. Come on man, this is soccer, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Even the great Teams like Barcelona and Brazil, lose some matches, they cannot win for 1,000 consecutive matches.

Come on Egyptians... Are you all insane??



In the incident on Wednesday 2nd February 2012 in Port Said, 74 people died and more than 1,000 were injured when violence erupted at the end of a football match which was won by the home team, Al Masry beating the nation's top team, Al Ahly 3-1.

Rival fans invaded the pitch as the final whistle blew and started throwing stones, fireworks, flares and bottles.

Players ran for their lives down the tunnel as the match turned into a bloody battle zone.

Al-Ahly star Mohamed Abo Treika said as the shocking scenes unfolded in Port Said: This is not football any more. This is war. People are dying in front of us.

He added: There is no movement and no security and no ambulances this is a horrible situation and one that can never be forgotten.

Stunned TV viewers saw live pictures of the carnage that followed al-Masrys 3-1 home victory over Cairo club al-Ahly as fans set fire to the stands.

The death toll, which officials fear could rise, includes stewards.

The 1,200 travelling al-Ahli fans were hopelessly outnumbered as there were around 13,000 al-Masry supporters in the ground.

Fans were seen cornering rivals and opposition players as others went on a wrecking spree in the stands.

At one stage a small group of riot police formed a corridor to try to protect players. But they were quickly overwhelmed and fans kicked and punched them as they fled for the relative safety of the dressing rooms.

According to some reports, the al-Ahly manager had to be rescued by a posse of police as he was being viciously beaten by an angry mob.

Egypts armed forces sent helicopters to the stadium to rescue al-Ahly players and as many supporters as they could.

Most deaths were reportedly caused by concussions, deep head wounds and suffocation from the stampede.

40 people were in serious conditions and undergoing surgery. Officials believe the violence could have been organised in advance.

Witnesses reported fans bringing knives into the ground.

It is the biggest disaster in Egypts soccer history.

Egyptian football fans are notoriously violent, particularly supporters of al-Ahly who call themselves the Ultras.

But despite extreme rivalry between the two clubs and the potential for trouble following violence at other matches in recent weeks, security had been downgraded and to me this shows that the Egyptian police is stupid as well...!!!

Police have kept a much lower profile since the mass protests in Cairo and other cities last year in 2011, which saw President Hosni Mubarak ousted from power.

All forthcoming premier league matches in Egypt were immediately cancelled until further notice and the newly elected parliament will meet today to discuss the riots.



THE HILLSBOROUGH TRAGEDY, 15 APRIL 1989

Before the Egypt incident, the worst ever football disaster was the Hillsborough disaster that occurred on 15 April 1989 at the Hillsborough football stadium, in Sheffield, England.

96 people were crushed to death and 766 injured, all fans of Liverpool.

It remains the deadliest stadium-related disaster in British history and one of the worst ever international football accidents.

The match, an FA Cup semi-final tie between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, was abandoned 6 minutes into the game.

The official inquiry into the disaster, the Taylor Report, concluded that the main reason for the disaster was the failure of police control, the findings which resulted in the elimination of standing terraces at all major football stadiums in both England and Scotland.

THE HEYSEL TRAGEDY, 29 May 1985

Among the worst ever soccer disaster before the Egyptian incident was also the Heysel Stadium Disaster, in Brussels, Belgium which happened on 29 May 1985, which again involves Liverpool, my favourite team. Very sad indeed.



39 Juventus fans died while 600 injured when escaping fans were pressed against a wall in the Heysel Stadium before the start of the 1985 European Cup Final between Liverpool of England and Juventus of Italy.

Approximately one hour before the Liverpool-Juventus final was due to kick off, a large group of Liverpool fans breached a fence separating them from a "neutral area" which contained rival Juventus fans.

The Juventus fans ran back on the terraces and away from the threat into a concrete retaining wall. Fans already seated near the wall were crushed; eventually the wall collapsed. Many people climbed over to safety, but many others died or were badly injured.

The game was played despite the disaster in order to prevent further violence, won by Juventus 1-0, via a Michel Platini penalty after Boniek was fouled.

The tragedy resulted in all English football clubs being placed under an indefinite ban by UEFA from all European competitions, which was lifted in 1990–91, with Liverpool being excluded for an additional year and several Liverpool fans prosecuted for manslaughter.

The disaster was later described as "the darkest hour in the history of the UEFA competitions".

Well Lara Logan was reporting from Tahrir Square on the day when President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, when she was attacked by lawless and foolish Egyptians who have no respect for ladies and the laws.

Now, Senior CBS correspondent Lara Logan is recovering in hospital in the United States after she was beaten and sexually assaulted by a mob while covering the Egyptian protests, the US network says.

It says the attack occurred on Friday 18 February, 2011 in Cairo's packed Tahrir Square after President Hosni Mubarak stepped down.

Ms Logan became separated from her crew and was rescued by women and soldiers.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has said 52 journalists were assaulted and 76 detained during events in Egypt.

The New York-based group said all of them had since been released.

'Courageous reporter'

In a statement, CBS said that Ms Logan and her team became "surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration" with a mob of more than 200 people "whipped into a frenzy".

It said Ms Logan was recovering following what it described as "a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating".

A group of women and an estimated 20 soldiers managed to save her after she became separated from her colleagues and security, it added.

The 39-year-old South African returned to the United States on Saturday, 19 Feb 2011, according to newsreports.

Ms Logan is CBS News' chief foreign affairs correspondent and has reported from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said the attack was "alarming", describing Ms Logan as a "brilliant, courageous, and committed reporter".

In its annual report issued on Tuesday, the CPJ said Pakistan was the deadliest country for journalists in 2010, with 8 killed while doing their job, out of 44 worldwide.

The number of jailed reporters was 145, an increase from previous years.

First batch of Malaysian students in Egypt to arrive in Jeddah by midnight tonight - 3 February 2011

After 30 years in powers, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is the most hated figure in Egypt



Mass riots by Egyptians, demanding Mubarak to end his 30 years rule, dominated the world media headlines.









Well it is not easy to evacuate 11,000 Malaysians in Egypt. However OPS PYRAMID is expected to bring all Malaysians out of Egypt in 4 or 5 days.

The plan is to transport all Malaysians out of Egypt via 5 aircrafts, 3 military aircrafts (C130 transport plane) and 2 commercial aircrafts (a MAS Boeing 747 and an Air Asia Airbus A 340) as well as a Malaysian Navy Ship (Bunga Mas 5).

All those Malaysians will be evacuated from Egypt to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as transit point before going home to Malaysia.

The first two planes operated by Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia, carrying about 600 Malaysian students from Egypt, are expected to arrive in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia by midnight today, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said.

The Malaysia Airlines plane, a Boeing 747, and the AirAsia Airbus A340 plane left KL International Airport early this morning for Cairo.

"As soon as these planes arrive there, we will arrange to fly out the first batch of Malaysian students and we hope, if everthing goes well, they will arrive in Jeddah by midnight tonight," he told reporters, here today.

Anifah said the three C-130 transport aircraft belonging to the Malaysian air force, which left for Jeddah yesterday, would start flying out Malaysian students out of Egypt tomorrow morning.

"These three aircrafts need to cease from activity for 24 hours before resuming the normal flying activity.

"That's why these planes can only start operating shuttle service tomorrow. Altogether the three Malaysian air force planes could carry up to 750 passengers," he said.

Anifah said the Malaysian embassy in Egypt was working round-the-clock to ensure the mission to bring home Malaysian students from the troubled country, would run smoothly.

He said the situation, particular in the vicinity of the Malaysian embassy office in Egypt, was under control, saying it was located from away from the troubled Tahrir Square in Cairo.

Anifah said he would monitor the situation and the evacuation process very closely in view of the prevailing situation there. -- BERNAMA

Meanwhile Air Asia has come out with a statement on the Mercy Flight to Egypt.

February 2, 2011 – AirAsia will be sending one A320 aircraft to help bring Malaysians in Cairo to Jeddah. AirAsia’s team will be headed by our Deputy Group CEO, Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun. AirAsia will make 3 trips daily between Jeddah and Cairo covering 6 sectors on 3rd and 4th February 2011. The first flight is scheduled to depart from LCCT Kuala Lumpur at 2.00 p.m (GMT+8) to Sharjah, UAE today.

Deputy Group CEO, Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun said “Our hearts goes to the Malaysians who are stranded in Cairo. As a true responsible Malaysian company, we feel obliged to render our assistance in times like these. We would also like to thank Wisma Putra and the fellow AirAsians for all their hard work in helping put together these mission flights.”



As of 7th February 2011, AirAsia successfully flew 2,380 Malaysians affected by the situation in Egypt.

AirAsia operated eight rescue flights from the Egyptian cities of Cairo and Alexandria to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The airline also operated one rescue flight from Jeddah to Kuala Lumpur.

The world’s best low-cost airline has been operating the rescue flights from February 3 to today 7th February 2011.

AirAsia flew 1,200 guests on three flights using its A340 aircraft from Cairo to Jeddah and around 860 guests on five flights using its A320 aircraft from Alexandria to Jeddah.

It also flew 320 guests on its A340 aircraft from Jeddah to Kuala Lumpur, the initial batch of guests to be flown to Malaysia.

Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun, Deputy Group CEO of AirAsia, said, “AirAsia shares in the responsibility of seeing to the wellbeing of Malaysia. We are aiding the nation in its time of need, doing our part to ensure the safety of Malaysians. We were especially concerned about the students, who are away from their families. AirAsia is closely watching the situation in Egypt to determine whether to mount more rescue flights."

AirAsia's operations was led by Dato' Kamarudin, who also got on the flight to Jeddah.

600 pelajar Malaysia dijangka tiba di Jeddah dari Mesir tengah malam ini 3 Februari 2011

Hosni Mubarak memerintah Mesir selama 30 tahun sejak 1981. Beliau menggantikan Anwar Sadat yang mati ditembak tentera. Selepas 30 tahun, Hosni Mubarak kini menjadi orang paling dibenci di Mesir. Ratusan ribu penduduk Mesir melakukan tunjuk perasaan jalanan mendesak Mubarak segera meletak jawatan.

Untuk mengeluarkan segera 11,000 rakyat Malaysia di Mesir, bukan tugas mudah. Ianya umpama proses pengeluaran beramai ramai secara tergesa gesa oleh Tentera Amerika di Vietnam sejurus kalah kepada Vietnam Utara dan Vietcong.

Untuk mengeluarkan rakyat Malaysia di Mesir, kerajaan melancarkan OPS PIRAMID yang dijayakan kerajaan, swasta, tentera, polis, pertubuhan bukan kerajaan dan orang awam dengan diselaras WISMA Putra, Kementerian Luar dan Kementerian Pertahanan.

Mesir terletak di benua Afrika dan pelan tindakannya adalah mengeluarkan segera semua 11,000 rakyat Malaysia dari Mesir dan membawa mereka ke Jeddah, Arab Saudi sebagai transit point sebelum dibawa pulang ke Malaysia.

Hari ini, Menteri Luar Datuk Seri Anifah Aman dalam sidang medianya di Kota Kinabalu, Sabah berkata kumpulan pertama seramai 600 pelajar Malaysia dari Mesir dijangka tiba di Jeddah, Arab Saudi tengah malam ini Khamis 3 Februari 2011.

Mereka dibawa keluar dari Kaherah dengan menaiki dua pesawat komersial – sebuah pesawat Boeing 747 penerbangan Malaysia, MAS dan sebuah pesawat Air Bus A-340 Air Asia.

Kata Anifah pesawat MAS Beoing 747 dengan nombor penerbangan MH 8010 mh telah berlepas dari KLIA pada 9.20 pagi 3 Februari dan tiba di Kaherah pada 1.45 petang ini waktu tempatan.

Perbezaan waktu antara Mesir dan Malaysia adalah 6 jam. Ini bermakna jam 1 petang di Mesir bersamaan jam 7 malam di Malaysia.

Menurut Anifah, MAS akan memulakan penerbangan pertama ulang alik utk seramai 340 penumpang ke Jeddah dari Kaherah pada jam 4 petang waktu tempatan bersamaan jam 10 malam waktu Malaysia.

Penerbangan dari Kaherah ke Jeddah dijangka mengambil masa 2 jam, oleh itu kumpulan pertama pelajar Malaysia terbabit dijangka tiba di Jeddah jam 12 tengah malam waktu malaysia bersamaan jam 6 petang waktu Mesir.

Kerajaan juga meminta syarikat penerbangan Air Asia untuk melakukan penerbangan ulang alik atau shuttle services antara Kaherah dan Iskandariah ke Jeddah setiap hari.

3 pesawat C130 TUDM dijangka memulakan penerbangan ulang alik dari Mesir ke Jeddah mulai jam 6 pagi esok waktu Mesir bersamaan 12 tengahari waktu Malaysia pada Jumaat 4 Februari 2011.

Kapasiti sebuah pesawat C130 TUDM ialah 250 penumpang, oleh itu 3 pesawat TUDM boleh membawa keseluruhan 750 penumpang pada satu satu masa.

Proses itu turut dibantu sebuah kapal laut TLDM Bunga Mas 5 yang berlabuh di pelabuhan Ain Sukna, Mesir pada 5 Februari bersamaan Sabtu.

Proses ini berterusan sehinggalah semua 11,000 rakyat Malaysia di Mesir sudah dikeluarkan dari Mesir dan dikumpulkan di Jeddah.

Semua pelajar malaysia di Jeddah akan ditempatkan di kompleks tabung haji sebelum dibawa pulang ke tanah air.

Keseluruhan proses mengeluarkan rakyat Malaysia di Mesir dijangka mengambil masa 4 hingga 5 hari.

Ketika ini kerajaan Mesir mengenakan perintah berkurung di semua bandaraya utama termasuk Kaherah dan Iskandariah, yang telah dilanjutkan dari jam 2 petang hingga 8 pagi, namun ia nyata tidak diendahkan penunjuk perasaan.

Ketika ini juga semua saluran komunikasi termasuk internet dan talian telepon di Kaherah dan Iskandariah serta bandar utama lain, juga masih dihentikan, sekaligus menghadkan perhubungan.

Menurut Anifah lagi, keadaan di sekitar rumah perlindungan Malaysia di Mesir juga terkawal, kerana lokasinya terletak jauh daripada kekacauan di beberapa lokasi di negara itu, termasuk di Tahrir Square.
