Sabahans and Sarawakians below 35 barred from working in Singapore

Malaysians above the age of 18 are allowed to work in Singapore except for male natives from Sabah and Sarawak whose age limit has been raised to 35.

The new ruling was imposed as an “administrative punishment” after a series of crimes and fights involving rowdy native Sabahans and Sarawakians in the republic.

It is learnt that several high profile murders involving Sarawakians and Sabahans in Ang Mo Kio Avenue, Kallang, and also Geylang in recent years have contributed towards the stricter regulations.

The new ruling has caused much difficulties to law-abiding Sabahan and Sarawakian native men, mainly unskilled and odd-job workers to work on the island.

Fresh workers below 35 were barred entry while those within that age group and already working there could not renew their work permits after they expire within two years.

Gagasan Dayak Iban Bersatu Malaysia (GAIU) president Sai Malaka said although the ruling was not made official by the Singapore Manpower Ministry (MOM), all work permit applications by native men from Sabah and Sarawak below the age of 35 were automatically rejected.

“I feel that this measure is very extreme and discriminatory towards native Sabahans and Sarawakians,” he said.

Sai added that Sarawakian and Sabahan men were skilled workers especially in the oil and gas sector, fabrication and factory maintenance.

He said since the ruling took effect, many Sarawakians and Sabahans who were unable to work in Singapore had opted to work in factories in Johor, particularly around Pasir Gudang.

“Luckily the government is developing the oil and gas hub in Pengerang near here. The project is now providing much needed work for these unemployed workers,” he told The Star yesterday.

State Unity, Human Resource, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman M. Asojan said that he was also aware of the issue and urged Sabahans and Sarawakians who were unable to get into Singapore to take up the 42,000 jobs available in the various industries in Johor.

Meanwhile, a spokesman from MOM confirmed that Singapore had tightened the policies governing the hiring and retention of foreign manpower in the last few years to moderate the growth of foreign work force as well as to promote productivity-driven economic growth.

He said that foreign manpower from all sources were required to meet various criteria to be eligible for work passes.

“We will continue to approve or renew the work passes of workers from Sabah and Sarawak who are found to be eligible and suitable to work in Singapore,” said the spokesman.

Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore Datuk Md Hussin Nayan said that during the elections in Singapore, one of the issues raised was over the high number of foreign workers there and the government had taken steps to address the matter by minimising the intake of unskilled worker.

Men, if you are short and fat, then do not try to charm Singaporean women as MOST Singaporean women do not like short men.

According to match-making company Lunch Actually, 70% of single women do not want partners shorter then them.

The women would just turn away and leave if they are matched with men shorter then them during speed-dating events.

The findings were concluded from a survey among 1,895 unmarried people in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The survey also found most men would look for slim girlfriends.

Thirty per cent of the men would dump their partners if they (the women) become fat and 10% of the women would dump their fat boyfriends.

But to me, even fat and short men will be an instant hit among women if money counts!! A short but Millionaire guy is envied by girls in every corner of the world!!

Air Asia named Top 10 Airline in Passenger Carriage Category by Changi Airport for 2 years in a row

Selepas 17 tahun, Singapura kembali ke bolasepak Malaysia

Selepas 17 tahun, pasukan Singapura kembali menyertai liga bolasepak Malaysia mulai tahun depan.

Menurut laporan media hari ini 12 Julai 2011, Singapore akan menyertai Liga Super Malaysia dengan menurunkan skuad bawah 23 tahun mereka dikenali "Singapore Young Lions" yang bakal berentap dengan 14 pasukan Liga Super termasuk juara Liga Super 2011 dan Juara Piala Malaysia 2010 Kelantan serta berdepan dengan bekas musuh lamanya Selangor.

Perkara itu diumumkan Timbalan Presiden Persatuan Bolasepak Malaysia, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah selepas majlis menanda tangani perjanjian dengan Persatuan Bolasepak Singapura, FAS di Wisma FAM di Kelana Jaya pada Selasa, 12 Julai 2011.

Menurut perjanjian 4 tahun antara FAM dan FAS itu, pasukan Singapore Young Lions akan bermain di Liga Super Malaysia manakala skuad Harimau Muda A dibawah kendalian jurulatih Ong Kim Swee akan beraksi di Liga Singapura atau S-League.

Skuad Singapore Young Lions bakal diwakili 5 pemain senior termasuk pemain impot asing.

Tengku Abdullah berkata beliau berharap penyertaan semula Singapura akan menjelmakan semula kegemilangan bolasepak lampau.

Singapura kali terakhir bermain di Liga Malaysia pada 1994.

Pasukan Singa itu amat digeruni lawan kerana bukan sahaja dibarisi pemain kebangsaannya malahan turut diperkuatkan pemain impot.

Singapura seringkali membelasah pasukan gergasi lain termasuk Selangor, Pahang dan Kedah ketika itu.

Antara pemain tersohor Singapura yang pernah bermain di Liga Malaysia pada 1980an hingga 1994 termasuk Samad Alipitchay, Malek Awab, penjaga gol David Lee, Mohamed Noh, dan kuartet empat pemain yang amat digeruni sehingga digelar "The Fearsome Foursome" terdiri Fandi Ahmad, V Sundramoorthy, Abbas Saad dan Alistair Edwards.

Kuartet ini boleh disamakan dengan gandingan maha hebat 4R Brazil yang menjuarai Piala Dunia 2002 iaitu Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo dan Roberto Carlos.

Sebagai penduduk Sabah, saya masih ingat dengan jelas bagaimana Singapura membelasah Sabah 7-3 pada 1994 di Stadium Kallang Singapura, ketika itu Henry Anjun kapten Sabah dan turut diperkuatkan Matlan Marjan, Scott Ollerenshaw dan Seslija Milomir.

Namun Sabah berjaya menewaskan Singapura 1-0 selepas itu di Stadium Penampang, dekat Kota Kinabalu.

Selamat kembali Singapura, kami sanjungi anda dan menantikan aksi anda.

Singapore returns to Malaysian football after 17 years hiatus

PETALING JAYA: The Lions return to Malaysian football next year.

After a lapse of 17 years, Singapore will be playing in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) with their Under-23 squad - Singapore Young Lions - playing in the top flight of the 14-team Super League.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah announced the new collaboration between the FAM and the FA of Singapore (FAS), after a signing ceremony at the Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya Tuesday, 12th July 2011.

Under the four-year agreement between the two countries, the Singapore Young Lions will be playing in the MSL while the Malaysian Harimau Muda A squad under coach Ong Kim Swee will be playing in the S-League.

The Young Lions are set to to include five senior players, including foreign signings, while the Malaysian Harimau Muda A squad will not be fielding any foreign players.

Tengku Abdullah said he hoped that the spark between the two nations would revive the rivalry that everyone remembered of the glory days.

"We hope to rekindle the glory days of the past shared between Malaysia and Singapore, when they made waves in the Malaysia Cup competition," he added.

The great Singaporean team last played in the Malaysian league in 1994.

During the glory days, Singapore dominated the league, beating every team including the mighty Selangor, Pahang and Kedah.

Prominent Singapore players who had tasted Malaysian football in the 80s right up till 1994 were Samad Alipitchay, Goal keeper David Lee, Mohamed Noh, the mercurial Fearsome Foursome Quadruple of Fandi Ahmad, V Sundramoorthy, Abbas Saad and Alistair Edwards and many many more.

As a Sabahan, i still remember vividly how Singapore trounced Sabah 7-3 at the Kallang National Stadium in Singapore and how Sabah beat the Lion 1-0 in Stadium Penampang in 1994.

Another proof that some Singapore armed forces are softie

The carrying of backpacks for national servicemen in Singapore continues to make the news.

The latest comes on Thursday, 30 Jun 2011 when a reader of the popular Singapore citizen journalism website Stomp sent a picture of a serviceman in army uniform, making an older man - believed to be his father - carry his backpack.

The reader - Danny - told Stomp: "At about 3pm yesterday (Wednesday 29 Jun 2011), as my friends and I were going to Northpoint in Yishun for lunch, I saw yet another army boy making his father carrying his bag for him.

"This is definitely unacceptable!"



In March 2011, a reader had sent to Stomp, a picture of a national serviceman making his maid carry his army backpack.

It sparked a national uproar (that spilled over to Malaysia) and the Ministry of Defence counselled him after he had identified himself to his commander.

The photograph made its rounds on the Internet and generated much debate about whether Generation Y soldiers in Singapore are too 'soft' and 'spoilt'.

In this latest case, should the parent or older person share the blame too?

In real Warfare, will the enemy laughed at these softie Singaporean army personells??

Could these soft soldiers handle Machine Guns, Artilleries and Rocket Propelled Grenades, bombs and grenades??

Will they yell softly at every sound of gunfires or bombs??

Oh Come on.. Sissy guys or softies guys should not be allowed to join the national services, if they cannot even carry their backpacks, what more engaging the enemies in real life combat!!!

Mass brawl in Singapore league

We are used to seeing football matches turn into wrestling or kungfu and karate fights!!

These shame and unsportmanship acts happened if players could not control their emotions..

Come on.. if you win you win.. and if you lose, you lose. No hard feelings. Even the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona accept defeat gacefully and gentlemanly.

In Singapore, we were shocked to learn of a mass brawl

On Monday 23rd May 2011, Singapore champions Etoile F.C. and Houngang United have been suspended from the top-flight S.League after an all-in brawl caused their fixture to be scrapped before even kick-off.

Local media reported that the brawl was sparked by a minor altercation while the teams warmed up at Hougang’s stadium and swiftly developed.

Four people were treated at hospital for minor injuries, Singapore’s Straits Times newspaper reported.

Both teams were quick to condemn such behaviour and were conducting their own probes into what had happened.

A disciplinary hearing has been scheduled for June 3 and matches involving either of the two clubs have been suspended.

“We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to violent conduct both on and off the pitch,” Singapore Football Association (FAS) President Zainudin Nordin said.

“FAS has started investigations and will pursue the matter thoroughly. Any players and officials found guilty of misconduct will be severely dealt with.”

“I am very, very angry to see such incidents happen. Any player found guilty of violent conduct will be punished very heavily and the club will be the first to take action,” Etoile chairman Johan Gouttefangeas said.

This mass brawl is not the first in Singaporean football.

In September 2010, players from the Young Lions and Beijing Guoan, brawled in a free for all kungfu and karate match, one minute before the end of regulation time when the score was tied 1-1.

The S.League encounter was eventually abandoned by referee Zaid Hussein who had seen enough and couldn't control the wild situation.

After the melee, Young Lions' Faritz Abdul Hameed (head injury), Gabriel Quak (arm) and Nazrul Ahmad Nazari (knee) were all discharged from hospital after observation.

Team manager Eugene Loo, who received a kick in the back, said: "Incidents like these are unacceptable. The players are remorseful for their actions and are apologetic."

The benches of both teams cleared in the free-for-all, with officials and substitutes running onto the field.

Singaporean army counselled soft looking army guy

The photograph showed the young Singaporean soldier in military fatigues and combat boots walking on a footpath, with his female domestic helper following behind with his military-issue rucksack.

This particular picture has caused furoure, red faces and embarassment in the Singapore Armed Forces.

This infamous picture, which quickly became an internet sensation, gave the impression that Singaporean armed forces recruits are softies and not real men and the enemies will laugh at them!!!

Real Soldiers are expected to be able to carry their weapons and rucksacks while engaging in a running gun battle for up to 160 kilometres...!!!

Soldiers are expected to be tough and ready to fight any battle, anywhere, anytime.

But that picture gave unwanted impressions that the particular soft soldier is not at all ready for any battle yet for he will ask for his maid to do the battle on his behalf instead!!!

Look at the pictures below. These are real men, real soldiers, real army personells, ready to fight galantlly and with true valour for their beloved country!!!

Meanwhile media reported that the sofite Singaporean soldier who was photographed with a maid carrying his rucksack has undergone counselling and is "remorseful" over his behaviour, the Singaporean defence ministry said.

"The serviceman concerned has identified himself to his commander," defence ministry director of public affairs Colonel Desmond Tan said in a letter published in the Straits Times on Tuesday, 5th April 2011.

"He has been counselled and continues his training."

Tan said the soldier was "remorseful for his actions and realises that it was wrong for him to have allowed this".

Singapore maintains a conscript-based military and its armed forces are among the best equipped in Asia.

Every able-bodied male citizen and permanent resident 18 years old and above must undergo two years of military training.

There has been criticism that current training drills are not as tough compared with what older generations had to undergo because of complaints from parents.

Analysts, however, said the rucksack photograph was not a fair representation of today's armed forces.
