KOTA KINABALU: Education officers and personnel received a pat on the back by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman for their high commitment in the efforts to uplift education standard in the state.

"We can see Sabah’s public examination results improving each year and this reflects your hard work and that you are doing your job," he said during a meeting with state education officers in Sri Gaya, here Friday.

Comprising head of sectors, school inspectorates, and district education officers, the state education officers were led by new State Education Director, Jame Alip.According to Musa, state educationists deserve praises as they managed to discharge their duties well despite some shortcomings here and there.

“But what is important is we do our job,” he said, adding that he had been involved in the education field since he was in Yayasan Sabah and having worked with all the state education directors.

Musa said due credit must be given to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for bringing all the beneficial development programmes for the country and Sabah.

“I am not trying to go out my way to simply praise the Prime Minister but it has been proven that he (Najib) is very attentive and concerned about Sabah and its people’s needs.

“He knows that Sabah being the second largest state in Malaysia definitely needed huge allocation for development.

“We can also see in the recent Lahad Datu intrusion incident where we lost 10 of our security forces personnel. After providing the necessary assistance and contribution to the families of the fallen heroes he immediately announced the setting up of ESSCOM and ESSZONE.

“He deployed five army battalions and approved millions of ringgit allocation to set up the necessary infrastructure to beef up security (in the East Coast),” he said.

Musa said as far as in the education field, Najib had introduced so many policies that benefited the people such as the waiver of school fees and providing assistance vouchers for school children among others.

Musa said the fact that Sabah now has more than RM3 billion in reserves and acknowledged as among the best financially managed states in the country speaks for itself.

He said so far, the Sabah Economic and Investment Development Authority (Sedia) had received about RM122 billion worth of investments under the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) initiatives, while Sabah continued to receive foreign visitors to Semporna and Sipadan Island.

On another note, Musa expressed appreciation to all education officers and personnel in the state.

“You have a very important role in the development of the country … without your help out our country will never have what we have today,” he said.
