3 famous people meets up at the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday, 14th September 2012, one is the future Queen of England while the other 2 are Malaysian Olympics medalists.

Seen here, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton chit chatting with 2008 and 2012 Olympics badminton silver medalist, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia and partially hidden, is Pandelela Rinong, who won bronze in the 10 metres platform at the recent 2012 London Olympics games.

“It’s something that I’ve never thought would happen in my life,” Chong Wei tells the online portal, Red Carpet exclusively.

“They (The British High Commission in KL) called me up when I was holidaying overseas after the London Olympics and asked if I could meet The Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge when they’re in town. So I said yes immediately.”

Apart from Chong Wei and Pandelela Rinong, Kate also met former Bond girl Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh, also a Malaysian, for tea.

The Diamond Jubilee Tea Party was hosted by the British High Commissioner, HE Simon Featherstone.

Thanks to his good time management. Chong Wei has managed to squeeze some time for his royal fans despite his hectic training schedule, which is scheduled at 3.30pm on Friday, 14th September 2012 in Bukit Jalil.

Ketika di Kuala Lumpur, Kate Middleton sempat bertemu pemenang pingat perak Olimpik London 2012 dan Beijing 2008, Dato Lee Chong Wei dan Pandelela Rinong, gangsa Olimpik London terjun 10 meter platform dalam sesi minum teh di British High Commision di Kuala Lumpur.

Ketiga tiga orang ini amat famous, namun saya rasa Kate lebih famous.

Malaysian Badminton Superstar, Lee Chong Wei to wed Wong Mew Choo, next year, 2013

Malaysian top SHUTTLER and double Olympic silver medalist, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, fis expected to end his bachelorhood next year in 2013.

The world No. 2 is expected to wed former Malaysia's national top women's singles player Wong Mew Choo.

The glampour couple has been courting for more than a decade.

Lee Chong Wei however, did not give any tentative date or venue for the wedding.

"Maybe I will step down next year because there are no big competitions and start planning for the wedding. I am not young any more."

Wong, 29, the former Malaysian woman number 1, is now a coach at Bukit Jalil Sports School after she quit competitive badminton last year in 2011.

"We have known each other for a long time. As I had to focus on my career, it was normal to have misunderstandings," said Chong Wei.

Chong Wei said he broke up with Wong in 2009 when he was undergoing training in South Korea but patched up with her a year later and the bond had since grown stronger.

"It is normal to go through difficult times in a relationship but I do not want such issues to affect my career or relationship.

Congratulations to Malaysia's World number one badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei and divine diver Pandelela Rinong who have been named 2011 National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.

Pandelela of Sarawak won despite being closely challenged by Nicol Ann David, the 6 time World Open Women Squash Champion and World no.1 female squash queen.

The results was announced on Tuesday night, 17 April 2012.

The previous winner in 2010 were Nicol Ann David and Cyclist, Azizul Hasni Awang.

3. Final All England di Birmingham Indoor Arena, England. Ahad 11 Mac 2012.

Lee Chong Wei tewas kepada Lin Dan 19-21, 2-6 dalam masa 31 minit, akibat cedera.

Selaku Naib Juara, Chong Wei menang hadiah wang tunai USD11,200 bersaman RM33,600.00

Chong Wei terpaksa tarik diri akibat kecederaan bahu kanan yang menyaksikan pegawai perubatan kejohanan terpaksa melakukan semburan spray penahan sakit ketika perlawanan berlangsung. Meskipun cedera, Chong Wei tetap turun ke gelanggang, demi tidak mahu mengecewakan ribuan penyokong Malaysia di Arena Birmingham, 10 juta peminat yang menonton perlawanan secara langsung di TV dan 100 juta lagi penonton di seluruh dunia.

Ini cukup berbeza dengan Lin Dan yang langsung tidak turun ke stadium jika dia cedera, sepertimana banyak dilakukannya sebelum ini.

Lee Chong Wei mara ke final untuk merebut kejuaraan singles lelaki ketiga berturut turut, selepas memenangi kejuaraan berprestij itu pada 2010 (tewaskan Kenichi Tago) dan 2011 (tewaskan Lin Dan) manakala Lin Dan mahu menang kejuaraan All England kali ke 5, dan dia mendapat apa yang dihajatinya itu. Takpa Chong Wei, bangkitlah dari kecederaan dan hancurkan Lin Dan si laknat itu…!!!

Wedding Bell for Malaysia's world no.1 badminton player, Lee Chong Wei

WORLD No. 1 shuttler Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia (picture above left) is reportedly getting married to former Malaysian top women's singles player Wong Mew Choo (picture above right) in a grand ceremony expected to be held in Genting Highlands next year, 2012.

Chong Wei's father Lee Ah Chai told a local Malaysian media, China Press that the duo were planning to settle down after 11 years of courtship.

Lee said they were likely to choose a suitable date for their big day after the London Olympics in 2012.



Lee Chong Wei is Malaysia's top badminton player and currently world no. 1, having won many tournaments including champion of All England, twice in a row in 2010 and 2011.

Interviewed at his home in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Lee said 29-year-old Chong Wei, the youngest among four siblings, would be the last to settle down.

Chong Wei and Mew Choo, however, denied the report and refused to comment further.



Mew Choo, 28, a former Malaysia's no. 1 badminton player is now a coach at the Bukit Jalil Sports School after she quit competitive badminton in April 2011.

Well, it is a common occurance to see badminton player marrying a fellow badminton player. Take the case of 4 times world badminton champion, Lin Dan of China who was once romantically linked to China's top female badminton player and former world champion, Xie Xingfang.

Anyway congrats Chong Wei and Mew Choo, may you two produce another great badminton player for Malaysia.

Lee Chong Wei hopes to win elusive world title at the 2011 World Badminton Championship in London

Malaysia's world no.1 men singles badminton player, Lee Chong Wei, 28 hopes to win the elusive World Championship title on his sixth attempt when the competition gets underway in London from August 8 to August 14th, 2011.

Chong Wei has won everything that the world badminton has to offer except the World Championship title and the Olympic Gold.

His best performance in the World Championship was a semifinalist in the 2005 edition in Anaheim, California, USA where he was beaten by eventual winner and 2004 Olympics Champion, Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia. Taufik is also Chong Wei's close friend.

His worst performance in the World Championship was the 2007 edition in front of his home crowd in Kuala Lumpur where Chong Wei lost in the 3rd round to Indonesia's Sony Dwi Kuncoro.

In the 2010 World Championships held in Paris, Chong Wei again lost to Indonesian ace Taufik Hidayat in the quarterfinals and attributed his loss to a back injury.

Chong Wei also lost in the quarterfinal stage in the 2006 World Championship in Madrid and the 2009 World Championship in Hyderabad, India.

Malaysia came close to winning the World Championship men singles title in 2003 but Wong Choon Han lost to Xia Xuanze of China in the final in Birmingham, England.

Chong Wei feels he has a better chance of winning the World Championship title this year compared with his five previous outings, since he has been preparing well for the competition and would also arrive in Bath, London two weeks before the tournament to prepare.

"I feel more confident. This year I have won all the Super Series titles that I competed, except the Korea Open, and that gives me additional confidence and edge over the others.

"The training in Bath will also be good for us to get acclimatised with the weather conditions," he told the Malaysian media in Kuala Lumpur on 20th July 2011.

He remains as the World number one since 2006 and won his seventh Malaysia Open title in January.

Chong Wei also won his second consecutive All England Open with a convincing straight games victory over his old nemesis and bogeyman, Lin Dan, who is the 2008 Olympic Champion and 3 time World Champion.

On Labour Day, Chong Wei won his first ever India Open and also his third consecutive Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold title a week later.

In late June 2011, he won the Indonesia Open, becoming the first non-Indonesian player to complete the hat-trick in the tournament.

Thomas Cup 2010, Malaysia conceded easy defeat to China

Malaysia's world no.1 Lee Chong Wei could not believe he lost easily 17-21, 8-21 to world no.2 and 2008 Olympic Champion and 3 time World Champion - Lin Dan or Super Dan of China.

The win paved the way for mighty China to win 3-0, and qualify for the final, meeting Indonesia on Sunday 16 May 2010.



This was how Lin Dan dismantled Lee Chong Wei during their match in the 2010 Thomas Cup semifinal in Kuala Lumpur.


16,000 Malaysians and millions more watching on TV were flabbergasted and shocked when Lin Dan made Chong Wei looked like a novice in his own backyard.

THREE-time world champion Lin Dan did what he does best - make world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei look like a novice in front of thousands of delirious home fans - at the Putra Stadium yesterday, during the crucial 1st match of the 2010 Thomas Cup semifinal.

Had Chong Wei, the 2010 All England champion won, Malaysia stand a good chance of upsetting mighty China and breaking the great wall of China to reach the Thomas Cup final, 2010 edition, after an 18 year hiatus.

But it did not turn the way, millions of Malaysian had been hoping for.

To the surprise of Malaysians locally and abroad, Chong Wei lost easily, he managed to get only 8 points in the 2nd set. Chong Wei was not his usual self, there was no fighting spirit, no battle cry and no barrage of attacks/smashes/deceptive shots and strokes. If only Chong Wei can emulate Japan's world no. 40 - Sho Sasaki gallant fighting spirit - then the match result would have been in favour of Malaysia.

Sho Sasaki - a less known Japanese player, proved his mettle when he defeated Wong Choon Hann of Malaysia in the group stage and later Simon Santoso of Indonesia in the semifinal, despite being only world no. 40 and having no super series titles in his badminton career.

Infact, Chong Wei loss in the semifinal to Lin Dan was almost identical to his easy loss of 21-12, 21-8 at the hand of the same opponent, in the 2008 Olympics Games final in Beijing.

It was Chong Wei first defeat this year, having won all 3 super series tournaments he took part this year - the 2010 Korean Open, the 2010 Malaysian Open and the 2010 All England.

Infact, Malaysians were not happy by the way the Malaysian team was easily defeated by China - there was no fighting spirit, infact Chong Wei, the men doubles world no.1 Koo Kien Kiat and Tan Boon Heong and 2nd singles - Wong Choon Hann - only collected 11 points or less in the 2nd sets of their respective matches.

In yesterday match, Lin Dan's tactic - to win a psychological war against the Malaysian - succeeded.

The supremely confident Lin Dan pulled off a stunning 21-17, 21-8 lop-sided win over Chong Wei in 47 minutes to get the crucial first point for China.

Much was made out of this clash between the world's two best players but, in the end, only Lin Dan enjoyed himself to the fullest - toying with Chong Wei with such ease and control.

And to cap off a magnificent display, he took off his shirt and performed a break dance.

His on-court arrogance, however, vanished when he spoke of his sensational victory at the press conference.

The spiky-haird Lin Dan even sounded sympathetic with Chong Wei's defeat.

“Malaysia have not won the Cup for 18 years and there were great expectations on him (Chong Wei).

“There was too much pressure on him,” said Lin Dan. “It is not that Chong Wei's game was predictable but, I think, he was under pressure and could not play his game.

“I knew that I could not let Chong Wei win the first point and I played well from the start. It was an important match for China too.”

Lin Dan, himself a former world No. 1, said he still looked up to two players - Chong Wei and Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia.

“I have achieved my biggest dream by winning the Olympic and world titles. Now, it is all about enjoying the game.

“I may be out to beat Chong Wei and Taufik but, off the court, I would like to be their friends,” he said. “Hopefully, the three of us will continue to give badminton fans around the world happiness through our game.”

Asked whether taking off his shirt was a celebration ritual for him, Lin Dan said in jest: “The first time I took off my shirt was at the 2004 Thomas Cup Finals. I was so happy when I defeated Peter (Gade-Christensen of Denmark). I was young then.

“This time, I took off to see whether I am as muscular as before!”

His fans can look forward to a similar celebration if he takes down Taufik when China meet Indonesia in the final tomorrow.

In the end, China ended Malaysia's hope for Thomas Cup title in 18 years with a 3-0 scoreline (Lin Dan beat Lee Chong Wei 21-17, 21-8; World champion Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng beat world no. 1, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong 21-15, 21-10; World no. 3 Chen Jin beat world no. 16 and 1997 world championship runner-up, Wong Choong Hann 21-16, 21-7).

Malaysia last won the Thomas Cup in 1992 in Kuala Lumpur after beating Indonesia 3-2 in the final. The hero in 1992 included 1st single - Rashid Sidek, now head coach of Malaysia badminton team, 2nd singles - Foo Kok Keong and 2nd doubles - Cheah Soon Kit and Soo Beng Kiang who clinched the 3 winning points for Malaysia on that glorious and historic night. In that memorable 1992 match - Malaysia's top doubles - Razif and his brother Jalani Sidek lost, but they helped Malaysia qualified to the final with a win over the top Chinese pair of Tiang Bingyi/Li Yongbo in the semifinal.

Kemenangan bersejarah pemain nombor 1 dunia, Datuk Lee Chong Wei dari Malaysia yang menjuarai kategori perseorangan lelaki Edisi ke 100, kejohanan badminton tertua di Dunia - All England pada Ahad 14 Mac lalu, nyata satu sejarah kepada dunia badminton tanah air.

Chong Wei bukan sahaja menjuarai gelaran single All Englandnya yang pertama, malahan menjadi pemain badminton pertama di dunia yang memenangi 3 kejohanan super series berturut turut - satu pencapaian yang tidak dapat disaingi juara dunia dan Olimpik, Lin Dan dari China, begitu juga bekas juara dunia dan Olimpik dari Indonesia - Taufik Hidayat dan juga jaguh Denmar - Peter Gade.

3 kejohanan super series yang dimenangi Chong Wei itu sejak Januari 2010 ialah Terbuka Korea, Terbuka Malaysia dan All England.

Sebenarnya Chong Wei berpeluang memenangi kejuaraan super series keempat berturut turut dalam Terbuka Switzerland, namun beliau menarik diri dan memilih untuk kembali ke Malaysia lebih awal untuk meraikan kejayaan ulung itu bersama sama jutaan peminat badminton tanah air.

Chong Wei dijangka pulang ke tanah air hari ini Selasa 16 Mac 2010 menerusi penerbangan terus dari London.

Apapun, persembahan terpuji Chong Wei dalam perlawanan akhir di National Indoor Arena Birmingham, England itu sememangnya amat bersejarah dan sukar dilupakan dalam lipatan sejarah badminton negara, juga dalam persada sukan tanah air.

Kemenangan mendebarkan 21-19, 21-19 ke atas Kenichi Tago dari Jepun, masih terngiang dalam ingatan.

Siapa sangka Tago dari Jepun yang sebelum ini kurang dikenali, mampu memberikan cabaran sengit ke atas Chong Wei.

Siapa sangka Tago yang baru berusia 20 tahun dan di ranking ke 20 dunia, berupaya menghancurkan impian Chong Wei dan jutaan lagi rakyat Malaysia.

Tago mendahului 4-0 di set pertama dan mampu mengejar sehingga mata ke 19 dalam kedua dua set.

Malahan, sekiranya bulu tangkis yang keluar di set kedua dalam kedudukan 20-19 menyebelahi Chong Wei, disahkan keluar oleh pengadil, maka kedudukan masa itu berubah menjadi 20-20, deuce dan belum tahu lagi apa berlaku selepas itu? Adakah Tago boleh memenangi set kedua dan menbawa perlawanan ke set penentuan atau set ketiga atau rubber set?

Di kaca TV, jelas bulu tangkis itu keluar, namun penjaga garisan dan pengadil mengatakan bulu tangkis itu masuk, sekaligus memberikan kemenenangan 21-19 kepada Chong Wei di set kedua dan terakhir itu, jelas dilihat Tago mengeleng gelengkan kepalanya.

Ahhh... apapun bulu tangkis keluar atau masuk, yang penting Chong Wei sudahpun merangkul kejuaraan All England pertamanya. Hanya ada 2 kejuaraan single dunia yang belum dimenangi Chong Wei iaitu Sukan Olimpik dan juga Kejuaraan Badminton Dunia atau World Championship.

Seteru utama Chong Wei - Lin Dan dari China menang All England sebanyak 4 kali dan menang juara dunia sebanyak 2 kali dan Olimpik sekali iaitu di Beijing 2008.

Apapun kejuaraan All England itu bukan sahaja satu kejayaan besar kepada Chong Wei.. namun ia juga membuka mata kita siapa sebenarnya Kenichi Tago dari Jepun itu, siapa budak Jepun itu??

Tago sebelum mara ke final, menewaskan 2 pemain pilihan dari China iaitu Chen Jin dan Bao Chunlai.

Lin Dan tewas lebih awal kepada Bao Chunlai dalam suku akhir.

Satu lagi yang kelihatan dalam badminton All England 2010 adalah baju yang dipakai pemain. Chong Wei memakai baju fesyen baru - tanpa lengan di sebelah kanan - mungkin untuk kekuatan smash dan stroke. Fesyen baju itu juga dipakai oleh Peter Gade. Namun Tago tidak memakai baju versi baru itu - sebaliknya memakai baju biasa yang dipakai pemain badminton konvensional.

Kejayaan Chong Wei juga mengubat kekecewaan tewas dalam final All England 2009 kepada Lin Dan.

Kali terakhir Malaysia menang single lelaki dalam All England adalah menerusi Hafiz Hashim pada 2003. Namun prestasi Hafiz terus merudum selepas itu.

Pemain Malaysia lain yang pernah menang singles lelaki dalam All England ialah Tan Aik Huang, Wong Peng Soon dan Eddy Chong.

Manakala pemain bergu lelaki negara yang pernah menang All England ialah Koo Kien Keat dan Tan Boon Heong pada 2007, Razif dan Jalani Sidek pada 1982, Ng Boon Bee dan Punch Gunalan pada 1971, Ng Boon Bee dan Tan Yee Khan pada 1965 dan 1966, Lim Sey Hup dan Teh Kew San pada 1959, David Choong dan Eddy Choong pada 1951, 1952 dan 1953.


Pemain singles Malaysia yang lain yang pernah beraksi di final All England tetapi tewas kepada lawan masing masing ialah Dato Punch Gunalan yang tewas kepada Rudy Hartono pada 1974, Rashid Sidek yang kecundang kepada Poul Erik Hoyer Larsen pada 1996, Foo Kok Keong yang dikecewakan Ardy Wiranata pada 1991, Misbun Sidek yang disingkirkan Morten Frost Hansen pada 1986 dan Ong Ewe Hock yang kalah kepada Sun Jun pada 1998.

Rudy Hartono dari Indonesia memegang rekod sebagai pemenang 8 kali All England singles lelaki, termasuk menang 7 kejuaraan berturut turut dari 1968 hingga 1974.

The moment Roger Federer lifted the Coupe des Mousquetaires as the new French Open Men Single Champion on the 7th of June 2009, I was beaming with joy in my seat, 10,000 kilometres away, in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

And millions of Federer or Fed-ex fans around the globe also cherished that moment of glory.

Hail to Roger Federer, you have just won your 14th Grand Slam titles and your very 1st French Open title.

Another title, your 15th, will come soon, perhaps at the Wimbledon in 2 weeks time.

Go home Rafael Nadal, Go home to Mallorca.

And Thank You Very Much Robin Soderling, Thanks for making Federer dreams a true reality.

With that 6-1, 7-6 and 6-4 win over Soderling in 1 hour and 55 minutes, Federer has finally equalled the great Pete Sampras record of winning 14 Grand Slam Titles..!!!



Federer joins Fred Perry, Don Budge, Roy Emerson, Rod Laver and Andre Agassi as the only men to have won all four Grand Slam titles.

"It was probably my greatest victory, I was under big pressure," said Federer. "I did it and it's phenomenal. It was great to be on the podium as a winner for a change." Federer said at the Cup presentation.

To me Federer is the greatest male Tennis player of all time with due respect to Pete Sampras, Ivan Lendl, Bjorn Borg, Rod Laver and co.



He beat Sampras – the 7 time Wimbledon champion in the 4th round of the 2001 Wimbledon Open.

Federer won the Wimbledon 5 consecutive times in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.







Federer won the US Open 5 consecutive times in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Federer won the Australian Open 3 times in 2004, 2006 and 2007.

And now Federer is the 2009 conqueror of the French Open.

He almost completed the Grand Slam – winning the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in the same year in 2004, 2006 and 2007 (3 times!!!)

However on those 3 occasions, The French Open title eluded him..

And no thanks to Nadal too..





But now Federer is the best in the world.

During the recently concluded French Open, what puzzled me was the length of time taken for the 2 men singles semifinals match to finish.

The 1st semifinal won by Robin Soderling, dismantling Fernando Gonzales took exactly 3 hours and 28 minutes.

The 2nd semifinal won by Federer against Juan Martin Del Potro also took exactly 3 hours 28 minutes.

But the 2009 All England Badminton reportedly only offered a total of USD 200,000 prize money!!!

And in badminton, you have to pick up the shuttles yourself, around the court.

In tennis, there is always 10 ball boys to help you!!

Still, badminton shuttle cocks can travel up to 200 km per hour, just like Tennis balls.

Plus, Professional tennis players get more media coverage than Professional Badminton Players!!

setelah menjuarai badminton super series master final di kota kinabalu, 21 disember lalu, mampukan pemain nombor 1 dunia, Datuk lee chong wei meneruskan rentak cemerlangnya di pentas juara???

persoalan itu bakal terjawab dalam kejohanan super series pertama tahun ini - Terbuka Malaysia 2009 di Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil yang sedang berlangsung sekarang hingga 14 Januari depan.

di atas kertas, memang prestasi chong wei amat padu, kukuh dan memberangsangkan... beliau menjinakkan beberapa pemain kelas dunia antaranya peter gade (denmark) dan jagoan indonesia, Taufik Hidayat dalam langkahan sebagai Juara Master Final Super Series di Kota Kinabalu, 21 disember lalu itu.

malah peter gade dan taufik ditewaskan oleh chong wei dengan mudah dalam set pertama perlawanan separuh akhir dan akhir - dengan hanya membenarkan lawan memungut kurang 10 mata..

apa yang jelas ketika kejohanan di Kota Kinabalu itu, chong wei mampu melakukannya meskipun tanpa ditemani dan tanpa kelibat jurulatihnya, Datuk Misbun Sidek yang dimasukkan ke hospital setelah mengadu kurang sihat sekembalinya beliau dari menunaikan Haji di Mekah.

Persoalannya, adakah Lee Chong Wei mampu sekali lagi muncul juara di Bukit Jalil meskipun tanpa Misbun???

In the first round of a round robin format, malaysia's world no 2 Lee Chong Wei easily defeated fellow Malaysian, Wong Choon Han, 21-14, 21-13 in 23 minutes, later in the night, he beat denmark's pete gade in straight set also - 21-19, 21-17, the next day, chong wei tops his group after beating Hong Kong's Chan Yan Kit in 3 games... chong wei will meet either sony dwi kuncoro or taufik hidayat in the semifinal this saturday 20 dec 08.
