Two Pakistani lesbians made history when they became the first Muslim gay couple to wed in a civil ceremony in United Kingdom.

But Rehana Kausar, 34 and her partner Sobia Kamar, 29 who loved each other deeply, claim political asylum saying their lives are endangered if they return home to their native country.

Watched by their solicitors and two friends, the pair wore traditional white bridal dresses when they were married in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

The pair, from the Lahore and Mirpur regions of Pakistan, said they had received death threats from opponents in Pakistan - where homosexual acts are illegal and considered against Islam.

And since news of their wedding earlier this month spread, the pair claimed they had even received death threats from the UK.

Before the service, even the registrar advised the couple to give serious thought to their decision to marry because of some Muslims’ views on homosexuality.

Call him crazy or insane, but he did it.

A carpenter in Holland, Johan Huibers, spent three years and more than £1million building a full-scale replica of Noah's Ark.

Now the gigantic wooden Biblical legend is opened to the public.

As many as 3,000 tourists a day can step aboard Johan Huibers' gigantic wooden boat in Dordrecht, in the Netherlands, which now boasts two cinemas and a restaurant alongside its menagerie of life-sized plastic animals.

Mr Huibers was inspired to embark on the ambitious project after having a dream in which he saw part of his native Netherlands submerged in a flood like the one featured in the Book of Genesis.

He became obsessed with bringing the story of the Ark to life, and in 2004 he built a half-scale version and floated it along the country's canals.

HOW LONG WAS A CUBIT? OR WAS IT HOBBIT?

Long before the metric or imperial systems came along, craftsmen in various parts of the world dealt in less precise units known as cubits.

As this was based on the length of a forearm, the exact value varies from one ancient civilisation to the next. It is most commonly defined as the distance from the elbow to the middle fingertip.

The Biblical cubit is generally thought to be about 18in, but Ancient Egyptian cubit rods measure closer to 20in.

Tourists flocked to see the smaller prototype when Mr Huibers opened it to the public, but the proceeds from admissions went straight back into funding his ambition to build a full-size ship.

The narrative of the ark, in which God commands Noah to prepare for a great flood sent to purge the world of evil, specifies that the boat was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high.

Mr Huibers converted this ancient unit of measurement, which is based on the length of the forearm, to determine that his recreation had to be about 450ft long.

This puts the boat, nicknamed 'Johan's Ark', at more than half the length of the Titanic.

And though it may not be able to shelter two of every animal, as the original story dictates, it can hold 1,500 people - not to mention a menagerie of plastic creatures including giraffes, elephants and donkeys, as well as a few live chickens.

As it weighs in at almost 3,000 tons and is made from Swedish pine reinforced with steel, it may be hard to believe that the ark is, in fact, seaworthy.

It is docked in the western city of Dordrecht, where Mr Huibers, the owner of a construction company, pieced it together with the help of some friends and two of his children.

In the 15th century, the city was the site of one of the deadliest floods in history, named St Elizabeth's flood, which is thought to have claimed as many as 10,000 lives.

Malaysians are the most hardworking people on this planet

Malaysia's biggest selling English language newspaper, The Star reported that Malaysians are clocking in more hours at work and bringing their office load back home, too.

“Some 47% of workers in Malaysia take tasks home to finish at the end of the day for more than three times a week, compared to 43% globally,” statistics in a global survey by workplace provider Regus showed.

Another 15% of Malaysian employees regularly work for more than 11 hours a day, compared to 10% globally.

The survey also showed 32% of Malaysian workers usually worked between nine and 11 hours every day.

Some 12,000 business people in 85 countries participated in the survey.

William Willems, regional vice-president for Regus Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia said the study found “a clear blurring” of the line separating work and home.

“The long-term effects of such over-work could be damaging to both workers' health and overall productivity.

“This is because workers may drive themselves too hard and become disaffected, depressed and even physically ill,” he said.

Willems said businesses that enabled employees to work from locations closer to home and manage their time more independently could offset the stress of a poor work-life balance.

On a global scale, the survey revealed that women were less likely to take work home compared to men, with 32% of women bringing tasks to finish at home more than three times a week compared to 48% of men.

“Workers in smaller companies globally were more likely to take work home than those working in large firms,” the study said.

Even the locals can't prononunce it, so they often shorten the name to Taumata, to make life easier.

The 85 words "Taumata­whakatangihanga­koauau­o­tamatea­pokai­whenua­ki­tana­tahu" is the longest place name found in any English-speaking country, and it is the second-longest place name in the world, according to Wises New Zealand Guide.

"Taumata­whakatangihanga­koauau­o­tamatea­turi­pukakapiki­maunga­horo­nuku­pokai­whenua­kitanatahu" translates roughly as "The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who travelled about, played his nose flute to his loved one".

All a child needs is love and affection

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the one I have. I was brought up in an average family. Although I never had many luxuries in life, I had all the basic necessities for survival.

Most people would say I am lucky compared with many other people. I never demanded any material things from my parents. All I asked for was love, respect and some self-sacrifice for the betterment of the next generation.

Instead, I would come back to incessant insults of my stupidity, psychological abuse and discouragement in life. My mother left my father and my stepmother is the same as my father. As they say, “birds of a feather, flock together”.

Now, I am a successful engineer with my own happy family and all the material things I need and want. I cannot be bothered to go back and visit, even though they live less than 10 minutes’ drive away.

I know there are irresponsible people who abandon their loving parents and these people are despicable. More often than not, I have seen that most old folks who have been abandoned have another side to the story.

Irresponsible men who abandoned the family and gambled their salaries away, and parents who abused their children, either physically, emotionally or mentally.

Let this be a warning to all parents. Do not think that providing a roof, food, clothing, mobile phone and a Playstation is enough. Sometimes, all a child needs is some love and attention even though their physical life is lacking.

A child will always forget that he was once hungry but will never forget that he never had a sweet childhood and love from his parents.

Now, I swear to my child that no matter how tired I am, I will always help with his lessons, play with him, love him, encourage him to be the best that he can be in life, and help him to the extent that I can afford to.

I swear to be a good father to my son, the kind of father that I never had. I will never force him or remind him to take care of me when I am old and whithered.

My child owes me nothing. He did not ask to be born into this world as my child. The burden shall never be on my child.

To all parents out there, it is time you realise this. Your child is not your insurance policy. It is your responsibility.

If my child takes me in when I am old, I would be grateful. Maybe then, I would have done something right in this world before I leave.

Sabah government refuted DAP's Hiew King Cheu allegations that RM10.9 Billion of fund for Sabah under 9th Malaysian Plain was not spent.

In a statement issued by the State Economic Planning Unit, Sabah, its Director, Datuk Ismail Abdullah, refuted allegations made by DAP Luyang Assemblyman, Hiew King Cheu that RM10.9 billion of federal development funds approved for Sabah under the 9th Malaysia Plan (2006-2010) was not spent.

'This is totally untrue', said Datuk Ismail. 'Hiew should check his facts and figures carefully before making such statement. Such unfounded allegation is misleading, and can be construed as being ill intentioned and meant to create a negative perception in people's mind that the State and Federal Governments are not serious about developing the Sabah.'

Hiew, in a twist to Datuk Jumat Idris's, the new Sepanggar MP's public criticism of Datuk Abidin Mandingkir, Kota Kinabalu City Mayor over his handling of development funds, said that out of RM16.9 billion of development allocations approved under the 9th Malaysia Plan, RM10.09 billion remained unspent. He also alleged that only 2,056 out of 3,690 development projects were completed.

The State EPU wished to set the record straight. According to Datuk Ismail Abdullah, the total development allocation approved for Sabah by the federal government during the 9th Malaysia Plan was in fact RM19.8 billion. This amount was for a total of 3,193 projects. Out of the total amount approved, 89% or RM17.69 billion was spent by the end of the 9th Malaysia Plan period. Meanwhile, out of the total projects approved, 2,511 projects (or 78.64%) were successfully implemented and completed, 678 projects were still in progress by the end of the plan period and carried over to the 10th Malaysia Plan, and nearly all had already been completed by now. Only 4 projects had not been implemented by the end of 2010 and was still at planning stage.

'89 % is an excellent achievement, and high by any standard because project planning and implementation has a very dynamic environment, and in a lot of cases, fraught with unforeseen implementation issues'.

For the first 3 years of the 10th Malaysia Plan, Sabah was allocated RM13.54 billion and 68% has been spent so far.

The State Government and YAB Ketua Menteri as Chairman of the State Action Council monitored the implementation progress of all development projects in the State very closely to ensure timely completion of projects and programs. In fact, YAB Ketua Menteri is constantly reminding heads of state and federal departments in Sabah to be fast and diligent in implementing development projects.

‘YAB Datuk Musa Haji Aman is a real task master. He simply has a very low tolerance for any inefficiency and complacency especially when it comes to the implementation of development projects for the rakyat', said Datuk Ismail.

At the same time, the federal government is constantly fine-tuning coordination and implementation process and procedures to ensure smoother implementation of projects.

13 year old rape victim who became wife of her alleged perpetrator in Sabah, Malaysia

The Sabah Welfare Department is taking steps to take a 13-year-old alleged rape victim under its care and protection while trying to nullify her marriage to the man accused of having sex with her.

Announcing this, state Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Jainab Ahmad appealed to the prosecution to go ahead with the statutory rape charge against 40-year-old restaurant manager Riduan Masmud.

Jainab said she had directed her officers to take immediate action to obtain a court order to have the girl placed under the care and protection of the department under the Child Act 2001.

"The girl is young and cannot decide for herself. She needs counselling and we have to hear her side. She was 12 years and six months old when the alleged offence took place," she added.

Jainab cast doubts on the legality of the marriage between Riduan and the girl after checking with Syariah court officials.

"A registrar told me there were two applications one from the man seeking consent to take a second wife, and another from the father of the girl seeking permission for his daughter to marry.

"They told me the father's application was allowed but there was no consent given for the man to take a second wife," she told reporters here yesterday.

On a personal note, she said she was saddened that the father had allowed his daughter to marry Riduan, who has four children, aged two to 17 years.

"Is it to hide the shame? Is it (the marriage) going to resolve the matter? This is very disturbing," she said.

The Sessions Court on Monday gave the prosecution until June 6 to decide on whether it wanted to proceed with rape charges against Riduan after the girl withdrew the rape report against him on April 18.

Riduan was charged on Feb 28 with statutory rape of the girl inside a car parked by the roadside in Inanam near here at about 10am on Feb 18.

Counsel Loretto J. Padua informed the court that the syariah marriage certificate had been presented to the investigating officer and confirmed that the two were now married.

Riduan is out on 8,000 ringgit (US$2,650) bail.

Individu dimaksudkan Trish Straus. Namun kini Stratus sudah bersara dari gusti dan kini sudah berkahwin dan dalam proses menanti kelahiran anak sulungnya.

Ketika bergiat aktif dalam gusti sejak 2000 hingga bersara pada 2006, Trish atau nama sebenarnya Patricia Anne Stratigias menjuarai WWE Women Champion sebanyak 7 kali, yang tertinggi dalam sejarah WWE, selain dipilih Diva of the Decade.


Ramai lawannya seperti Lita, Niki James dan Victoria sudah ditumpaskannya menerusi gerakan dikenali Stratusfaction dimana kepala dan muka lawan dihempaskan ke gelanggang alam Bull Dog.

Stratus berkahwin dengan teman lelaki dari sekolahnya Ron Fisico, pada 30 September 2006 dan bakal melahirkan cahaya mata pertama September 2013.
