PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (“BII” or the “Bank”) today announced a profit after tax and minority interest (PATAMI) of Rp1.1 trillion for the nine months ended 30 September 2013, a 19% increase from the same period a year earlier. This is the first time it has passed the Rp 1 trillion mark for a nine months period. The Bank’s profit before tax increased by 22% to Rp1.6 trillion compared to Rp1.3 trillion in the previous corresponding period.

The improved performance was achieved on the back of solid growth across the Bank’s core businesses, strong deposit growth, significant profitability improvement of the Bank’s subsidiaries, and continuing overall operational improvements.

Customer Deposits saw strong increase of 21% during the first nine months 2013 to Rp96.5 trillion from Rp79.8 trillion in the first nine months 2012 with strongest growth recorded in savings deposits of 35%. Current accounts grew 21% while time deposits increased 16%. The increase in low cost funding was attributable to the enhancement of branch productivity as our sales force optimized cross sell opportunities and leveraged our existing clientele base in addition to acquiring new customers. The Bank’s cash management and pay roll services have also contributed to the growth of low cost funding for the nine months 2013.

Loans grew 21% during as of September 2013 to Rp91.7 trillion from Rp75.9 trillion as of September 2012 despite the challenging market condition. Loans from Business Banking grew the fastest from Rp 24.6 trillion to Rp 32.0 trillion or increased by 30%; SME in particular grew by 33%. Retail loans rose 24% from Rp27.0 trillion to Rp33.8 trillion. Global Banking loans increased 7% from Rp24.3 trillion to Rp 25.9 as the Bank re-adjusted its corporate portfolio in the first semester consistent with its proactive credit risk management activities.

Retail Banking performance has turned around as reflected by the increase of its profit from Rp 48 billion for the nine months 2012 to Rp 121 billion for the nine months 2013. The performance of the Bank’s subsidiaries, PT Wahana Ottomitra Multiartha Tbk (WOM) and BII Finance, which are under Retail Banking management have also significantly improved and contributed to the overall performance of the Bank.

BII Finance’s total four wheel financing (consolidated) rose 49.7% from Rp5.8 trillion in Sept 2012 to Rp8.6 trillion in September 2013. Meanwhile, WOM’s total two wheel financing (consolidated) in the first nine month 2013 stood at Rp8.6 trillion compared to Rp9.3 trillion in the first ninth months 2012 due to the Bank’s decision to rebalance its four wheel and two wheel portfolio in the first half of 2013.

The consolidated loan to deposit ratio (LDR) improved from 94.26% in September 2012 to 93.09% as of end of September 2013. LDR at the Bank (excluding subsidiaries) remained at a healthy level of 86.42%, while the Bank’s modified consolidated LDR which includes senior bond, long term borrowings and customer deposits stood at 80.95% as of 30 September 2013.

BII Shariah Banking has shown encouraging results since the implementation of its revamped business model. Total Shariah financing grew from Rp1.1 trillion to Rp3.0 trillion contributing 3.2% of the Bank’s total loan from only 1.4% in September 2012. Net profit of BII Shariah Banking also grew significantly from Rp 18.4 billion in September 2012 to Rp 157.1 billion in September 2013.
Other key drivers which supported the Bank’s improved performance during the year were as follows:

• A 10% YoY improvement in the Bank’s net interest income (NII) from Rp3.9 trillion in September 2012 to Rp4.3 trillion in September 2013 arising from loan growth which was accompanied by improvement in asset quality. The strong competition among banks which put pressure on the Net Interest Margin (NIM) across the industry, only resulted a marginal decline on the Bank’s NIM to 5.37% in September 2013 against 5.88% in the previous year.

• Maintaining good asset quality as shown by gross non-performing loans (gross NPL) level improving to 1.74% as of 30 September 2013 from 2.08% as of 30 September 2012. Net NPL stood at 1.02% from 0.87% earlier. Gross impaired loans remained stable at 2.2% while net impaired loans were contained at 1.5%. The Bank continuously maintains its asset quality through prudent and disciplined banking practices, strengthening risk management and credit processing as well as closer monitoring of existing borrowers. Asset quality of the two-wheel portfolio at WOM showed further improvement, with net NPL improving to 1.57% from 1.67% and Net NPL of four wheel financing at BII Finance remained low at 0.09%.

• A sharp decline of 33% in provision expenses to Rp582 billion as of 30 September 2013 compared to Rp868 billion a year earlier, despite a 21% growth in loans as a result of better portfolio quality and recovery management

• 19% increase in fee based income from Rp1.4 trillion to Rp1.7 trillion was mainly contributed by gain in marketable securities.

• Return to sustainable profitability for WOM which recorded a profit after tax (stand alone) of Rp59.9 billion in September 2013 compared to a loss of Rp36.8 billion in the same period last year

• Business as usual overhead costs were maintained at a modest 13% with addition 8% in expanding its branch and electronic network as well as investment in both IT infrastructure and human capital to ensure that the foundation remains strong. Overhead costs stood at Rp4.1 trillion in September 2013 compared with Rp3.4 trillion in September 2012. The cost to income ratio (bank only) as of 30 September 2013 stood at 66.6% as of 30 September 2013.

Saya pernah bermalam 3 hari di Pontianak dan syukurlah tiada kelibat Pontianak yang kelihatan.

Kecuali 1 insiden dimana saya sedang menggunakan tandas lelaki, dan saya terkejut besar apabila pintu tandas di sebelah saya dibuka, muncul seorang wanita berwajah pucat dan berambut panjang berbaju putih, saya ingatkan Kuntilanak, rupanya dia wanita Cina yang silap masuk tandas lelaki..!!!

Bandar ini juga banyak didiami masyarakat Cina serta dipenuhi speda atau motorsikal sebagai alat pengangkutan utama.

Juga terdapat sebuah Muzium di sini yang menempatkan asal usul masyarakat Pontianak di zaman silam.

Persekutuan Bolasepak Dunia, FIFA tidak senang hati dan mahu menyiasat kekalahan besar Indonesia 0-10 di tangan Bahrain pada saingan kelayakan Piala Dunia 2014.

Bahrain perlu menang lebih 8 gol dalam perlawanan itu dan mereka berjaya melakukannya.

A Tanjung Malim, Perak, Malaysa -born Dutch citizen claims he is a descendent of the Emperor of China and that his bloodline is linked to royal families in India, Java and Siam.

IT is not every day that you get to meet a trillionaire. So when I was invited to interview Kamal Ashnawi, a person I've never heard of, I said yes.

On Saturday morning, 21st January 2012, at a Kuala Lumpur hotel coffee house together with two of Kamal's aides, I waited for the so-called trillionaire.

Wearing a baseball cap, long-sleeved shirt and jeans, he sauntered over to our table. The two aides bowed, pressed their palms together to their forehead as if greeting royalty and kissed his hands.

“We call him Tuanku as he is a sultan from Indonesia,” one of the aides whispered to me.

According to Kamal, he is a Dutch citizen born in Tanjung Malim, Perak, on January 1st, 1964.

“I'm a descendent of the Emperor of China and in a history that went haywire, my family fled from China to Kedah. I traced my bloodline to the royal families of China, India, Java and Siam,” claimed the man who is also known as Raden Mas Prabhu Gusti Agung Ki Asmoro Wijoyo.

“I grew up in Tanjung Malim and my family here is very simple and ordinary. Nobody in my family talks about our royal blood and wealth. But my grandmother once told me: “You are special and, when the time comes, you will know.”

It was in Holland in the late 1980s that Kamal “found out who he really was”. A member of an Indonesian royal family, kicked out of the country by president Sukarno, told him he was of royal blood.

In London in the early 1990s, a lawyer told Kamal about his royal family's massive wealth. Unconvinced, he told the lawyer to prove his claims.

He and the lawyer flew from London to Hong Kong to meet the “keeper of the royal treasure”. From there, Kamal and the keeper travelled to Kunming in China.

They hiked up a mountain for four hours and reached a cave guarded by an old couple who, Kamal says, are immortals.

“If you tried to pass them without their blessing, you would cough blood and die,” he said.

Inside the three-metre-high cave, Kamal saw gold bars stacked like a pagoda, US$15 million (RM46million) in jade and US$10 million (RM31 million) in diamonds and stacks of US dollars.

“I took a gold bar and knocked it on a rock. It was really gold. The treasure is the wealth of the dynasties that ruled China. Their wealth was also kept in other mountains and in vaults all over the world,” he said.

About three years ago, when Kamal watched Nicholas Cage's movie National Treasure, he laughed.

“The treasure in the movie was small compared to the wealth I saw in the mountain,” he said.

Next, Kamal told of his meeting two years ago in Kuala Lumpur with Dr Wong Eng Po, a royal physician from China.

Dr Wong placed his hand on Kamal's bald head, then immediately bowed in front of Kamal and ordered his five followers to do the same.

“He said I was the reincarnation of Emperor Nurhaci (1661-1626) of China. He felt an energy on my head which was superhuman because an emperor, unlike an ordinary human, has to think more.

“I'm the reincarnation of two emperors of China,” Kamal added.

He elaborated that a few years ago, the royal family decided he would be the sole administrator of the royal wealth kept in secret accounts in about 1,000 banks worldwide.

“This means that 86.7% of the world's money belongs to me,” he said.

Taking out several folders, Kamal said: “You're lucky, I brought documents.”

He produced an A4-sized paper with the photographs of the national treasure, the immortal couple and several “official-looking” letters allegedly from HSBC certifying he has an account of five trillion euros (RM20 trillion).

“That is a small amount. I have more money in other banks and institutions,” he added.

I wondered why his name has not appeared in the Forbes' list of world's richest people. And a suspicion lingered about his claims.

However, I could not authenticate his documents since the bank was closed for Chinese New Year.

Kamal has not made any withdrawal from the account as “it is not money that you can move just like that”.

“The money is under the control of Indonesia, Germany, Britain, the US and the Euro Central Bank and I've got to go smooth with them,” he said.

“I can't use the money directly but I will invest in certain projects. Like three trillion euros (RM12 trillion) to green a desert in China.” (only a true lunatic will say things like that!!!!!!)

Curious, I asked what was the difference between a billionaire and a trillionaire.

He replied: “A billionaire needs to show he has the money. But for me, I don't need to show that I got money. I can travel in a bus. I can wear slippers.”

Born in the year of the dragon, Kamal believes 2012 is his year. In March, he says he will negotiate with institutions such as the IMF to be recognised as the Emperor of Indonesia.

He says he's rich. But his story could just be as rich.

Let's hope he is not another Elie Youssef Najem, the so-called Lebanese billionaire who made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Palm oil threat to Indonesia's orangutans, BBC reports from East Kalimantan, Indonesia

Orangutans are the only exclusively Asian genus of extant great ape. There are only two surviving species, both of which are endangered: the Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) and the critically endangered Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii).

A 2007 study by the Government of Indonesia noted in 2004 it was estimated that there was a total wild population of 61,234 orangutans, 54,567 of which were found on the island of Borneo. So we have to safeguard these primate, not kill them!!

Palm oil threat to Indonesia's orangutans

Eight-month-old baby orangutan Elaine would have never survived without her carer Rosa.

Coaxing the infant ape to eat, Rosa uses a mixture of baby-talk orangutan sounds, trying to mimic the noises Elaine's mum would have made if she were here.

The baby orangutan and her mother were separated when they were chased off a palm oil plantation by some workers. It is not clear whether the older orangutan is even alive.

Now, Elaine depends on Rosa for care.

"She usually cries when I leave," Rosa said, cradling the baby ape. "So I need to always be close to her."

Elaine is one of two baby orangutans rescued from palm oil plantations in the last few months and brought to the Samboja Lestari sanctuary in East Kalimantan.

Orangutans are very vulnerable when they first arrive at the sanctuary, explained Ascheta Bastuni Tajuddin, the manager of Samboja Lestari.

"The two babies Elaine and Mads, they were really stressed,'' she says. ''One had diarrhoea, and the other had fever."

''Most of the orangutans we have here are confiscated from people's houses,'' she adds. ''But lately, there are several baby orangutans that we have rescued who have been separated from their mothers.

''Either the mother is killed or runs away because of the people chasing her on palm oil plantations.''

Chased and killed

Unfortunately, Elaine and Mads are not unique cases. There have been a number of reports of late of orangutans being chased away on palm oil plantations in East Kalimantan. At least 750 are thought to have been killed during 2008 and 2009.

Orangutans, amongst the most endangered species in Indonesia, are increasingly under threat in their own homes.

In the last few weeks, Indonesian police have arrested five palm oil plantation workers on suspicion of killing the great apes, bringing the total number of those arrested to nine

On the bumpy car ride to the area in East Kalimantan where many of the killings are thought to have taken place, it was apparent that much of the landscape had been converted into palm oil plantations.

"Just 10 years ago, this was all forest," Rudi, who drove the BBC team to the sanctuary, said. "These areas used to be the homes of the orangutans until the palm oil plantations came.''

Forests are the natural habitats of Indonesia's orangutans. But the expansion of palm oil plantations and coal mines in East Kalimantan's forest areas has resulted in tragic consequences for the animals.

''When the orangutans came back to the areas they once thought were their homes, they were driven out by the people who work on these plantations," Rudi said.

Dire consequences

At a plantation where some killings have been reported recently, workers chopping away leaves of the oil palm trees, to get to the bright orange fruit hidden beneath were reluctant to speak to the BBC.

The precious palm oil comes from inside this fruit. Oil is extracted both from the pulp and the kernel of the fruit.

Finally Ronal from Sulawesi said that he knew about the orangutan deaths and the reasons why some workers were willing to hurt them.

"Some workers found an orangutan on the plantation," he said. "The company paid them $100 (£64) for it. I don't know what the company did with the ape, but they want them gone because they see them as pests."

Palm oil firms say they are innocent and that conservation groups blame them unfairly. But environmentalists say there are dire consequences if nothing is done to stop the killings of orangutans.

"They will go extinct in the wild in perhaps five years," said Arfiana Khairunnisa, with the Centre for Orangutan Protection in East Kalimantan.

''We find this case only in plantation areas they are considered as pests actually by the workers because they eat the palm seedlings,'' she added. ''Orangutans are protected by law in Indonesia so this violates the law."

Indonesia is home to 90% of the world's orangutans.

The Indonesian government has said it is committed to protecting orangutans, but critics have questioned why palm oil plantations are being allowed to expand in their natural habitat.

On the journey out of the plantation area, driver Rudi stepped on the brakes suddenly, bringing the car to an abrupt halt.

"Look! There on the road! An orangutan!" he exclaimed.

The orangutan lumbered slowly across the dirt road, one giant arm swinging against the other. He paused, as if startled by something he heard, and proceeded to scamper quickly off into the forest.

He moved too fast for a photograph to be taken. It was very rare to see an orangutan in the wild, said Mike, the BBC's guide from the Centre of Orangutan Protection.

"Unfortunately, he might not be so lucky,'' he added. ''This is very near the area where many of the killings of orangutans have been reported. He could be the next victim."

Indonesian women wore miniskirts to protest rape remarks by Jakarta Governer

About 50 women in Jakarta, Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, donned miniskirts to protest remarks by the Jakarta city governor, Fauzi Bowo who blamed a recent gang rape on the victim's choice of skimpy and revealing clothing.



Fauzi (photo above) earlier on Friday, 16 September 2011, called on women not to wear miniskirts when riding on public transport in the capital after a 27-year-old woman was attacked in a public minivan, early September 2011.

Police failed to catch the rapists, but the woman spotted one of the alleged perpetrators two weeks later as he drove the vehicle.

"We are here to express our anger. Instead of giving heavy punishment to the rapists, the governor blamed it on women's dress. This is discrimination," protest coordinator Chika Noya told media.

Wearing tank tops and short skirts, the women demonstrated at a main roundabout in Jakarta, some holding a big banner and posters saying: "Don't tell us how to dress, tell them not to rape" and "My miniskirt is my right."

"Rape is a serious crime against humanity," Noya said, adding that the governor should guarantee women's safety on public transport.

Protester Dhyta Caturani, dressed in a miniskirt and revealing top, said: "The way women dress is not the cause of sexual violence."





Governor Bowo apologised on Saturday, 17 September 2011 for his remarks but that failed to convince demonstrators.

Jakarta police recorded an increase in recorded rape cases with 41 for this year up to September in the city of 12 million, compared to 40 during the whole of 2010.

Caturani said the protest was inspired by the "SlutWalk" phenomenon which began in Toronto in April when hundreds of women and men took to the streets to protest a comment made by a police constable that "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimised."

Well, rape is a very sensitive issue in Indonesia especially after the May 1998 riots where it was widely reported that ethnic-Chinese Indonesian women were raped or gang-raped during the mass demonstrations that year which forced long-term President Suharto to resign.

The exact number of Indonesian Chinese women raped during that period were unknown but some media reported that as high as 168 women were victims of that harrowing attacks.

Let us hope that these things would not happen in the future.

Poco Poco dance.. what's wrong with it??

To most Malaysians, the popular Poco Poco dance is a harmless dance and nothing else differentiate it with other normal dances.

However Harussani Zakaria thinks otherwise.

Harussani Zakaria, mufti of the northern Malaysian state of Perak has said the "poco-poco" dance violated Islamic law as it was a "cult dance," whose "moves reflect the making of a cross and so is unacceptable in Islam."

As a result of this, the head of Malaysia's Islamic Development Department, which sets national level Islamic policies, said a National Fatwa Council will be convened on April 20, 2011 to rule on the issue, the New Straits Times, Malaysia's tio English language newspaper reported.

"I hope other state muftis will be patient and wait for the meeting," Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz told the paper.

"If any of the states have concluded its findings on the matter, I invite them to share it with us," he added. A department official confirmed the remarks but declined further comment.

In Malaysia, many adults use the dance to keep fit and some Islamic thinkers say it should not be banned if it is done solely for health reasons.

The origin of poco-poco is unclear but many trace it to Indonesia more than 20 years ago to accompany a song of the same name.

It is also a Jamaican word which relates to a wild dance under the possession of spirits.

Harussani said the dance originated in Jamaica and is also practised in the Philippines and parts of Indonesia which have a Christian majority.


The Poco Poco is popular in Europe too, as demonstrated by the Folkuniversitetet dancing class students in Linkoping - Sweden.

Malaysia's population is dominated by Muslim Malays, and the ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities are becoming increasingly concerned over rising "Islamisation" of the multicultural country.


In 2008, Malaysia's highest Islamic body, the National Fatwa Council, banned yoga for Muslims, saying it could erode their faith.

But the decision triggered uproar from moderate Muslims, prompting then prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to wade into the row, saying Muslims could do yoga as long as it had no Hindu spiritual elements.

Vokalis terkenal Indonesia, Ariel Peterpan atau nama sebenarnya Nazriel Irham, dijatuhi hukuman penjara tiga tahun enam bulan dan didenda Rp250 juta (RM84,000) atau penjara tiga bulan oleh Mahkamah Dearah Bandung hari ini, Isnin, 31 Januari 2011 setelah didapati bersalah membuat dan mengedar video pornografi membabitkan dirinya sebagai pelaku dengan artis Luna Maya dan Cut Tari.

Keputusan itu dibaca oleh Ketua Majelis Hakim kes itu Singgih Budi Prakoso pada perbicaraan secara terbuka yang penuh sesak dengan orang ramai serta wartawan. Sebelum ini, perbicaraan diadakan secara tertutup.

Mendengar keputusan itu, beberapa wanita peminat Ariel kelihatan menangis.Hukuman itu adalah lebih ringan daripada tuntutan pihak pendakwaan pada 6 Januari lalu yang meminta mahkamah menjatuhkan hukuman penjara selama lima tahun ke terhadap penyanyi itu.

Dalam keputusan hari ini, majlis tiga orang hakim sepakat menyatakan bahawa Ariel terbukti melanggar Undang-undang Tentang Pornografi 2008 dan Undang-undang Jenayah.

Kes pengedaran video porno dirinya dengan kekasihnya, Luna Maya dan artis Cut Tari tahun lalu menggemparkan negara dan menghebohkan masyarakat apabila ia tersebar dengan cepat di internet sehingga dapat diakses termasuk melalui telefon bimbit.

Di jejaring sosial, kes ini yang dikenali sebagai "Ariel Peterporn" turut menarik perhatian dunia dalam banyak akaun twitter.

Ariel dan Luna Maya tidak mengakui bahawa mereka adalah pelaku dalam aksi porno itu, namun Cut Tari membuat pengakuan dan memohon maaf secara terbuka bahawa video itu benar antara dirinya dan Ariel, dan mempertahankan kenyataan itu sebagai saksi dalam perbicaraan kes Ariel itu.

Ariel, yang kelihatan tersenyum mendengar keputusan hakim seperti sudah menduga hukuman yang akan diterima hari ini, tidak memberi apa-apa kenyataan apabila ditanya oleh hakim sama ada akan mengemukakan rayuan terhadap keputusan itu.

Penyanyi itu diberi waktu seminggu untuk mengemukakan rayuannya.

Ariel dikawal ketat oleh anggota polis semasa dibawa keluar dari ruang persidangan mahkamah melalui pintu belakang bagi mengelak dikerumuni wartawan dan orang ramai.

Di luar mahkamah, ratusan penunjuk perasaan bersedia sejak pagi untuk melakukan demonstrasi sehingga menyebabkan lalulintas di Jalan Marthadinata di sini menjadi sesak.

Mereka terdiri daripada dua kumpulan iaitu penyokong yang menamakan diri sebagai "Sahabat Peterpan" dan kumpulan masyarakat termasuk beberapa pergerakan radikal Islam, yang mengutuk perbuatan Ariel.

Kumpulan radikal Islam menyatakan rasa kecewa mereka terhadap keputusan itu dan menunut mahkamah menjatuhkan hukuman lebih berat terhadap Ariel.

Selepas keputusan, berlaku insiden melempar batu oleh beberapa penunjuk perasaan ke arah kumpulan penyokong Ariel namun keadaan dapat dikawal.
Demonstrasi luar mahkamah berlaku setiap kali perbicaraan kes Ariel berlangsung sejak ia bermula pada 22 November tahun lalu.



Peter Pan di mana Ariel adalah vokalis utama dan peneraju utamanya, adalah antara band terhebat pernah dilahirkan Indonesia selain daripada kumpulan Dewa, Koes Plus, The Mercy's, D'Lloyd, Samson dan Ungu.

Antara lagu paling terkenal Peter Pan adalah "Ada Apa denganmu", "Mungkin Nanti", "Topeng" dan banyak lagi.

In this world, actually thousands of men out there made love to unbelievable numbers of women, some amounting to thousands of girls, yet not a single action was ever taken against them.

AN INDONESIAN court on Monday, 31st January 2011 jailed one of South-east Asia's biggest rock stars for more than three years after sex tapes of him with two television celebrities appeared online.

The trial for Nazril 'Ariel' Irham, lead singer of the band Peterpan, has made headlines and dominated chatter on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter for more than three months.

Fans insist he did nothing wrong, making the tapes in the privacy of his own home. But Islamic hard-liners warn that his actions have contributed to the country's moral decline.

The 29-year-old pop star - who said the videos were stolen and posted online without his knowledge - is the first celebrity to be charged with violating the country's strict anti-pornography law that came into effect in 2008.

'I wanna be free,' Ariel told reporters, smiling as he puffed away on a cigarette before being escorted into a packed and electrically charged courtroom before the verdict. 'I didn't distribute those videos.'

Outside the district court in Bandung, about 120km south-east of the capital, Jakarta, hundreds of protesters chanted his name and demanded he be punished.

Ariel is the frontman of one of Indonesia's most popular rock group, Peter Pan.



Their smash hits songs include "Ada Apa Denganmu", "Mungkin Nanti", which are hugely popular in South East Asia.

KUALA LUMPUR: Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim has refuted allegations that he raped his Indonesian maid in 2007.

“I refute the allegations, whether they are about raping any individual four years ago (2007) or any other allegation, raised by bloggers on the Internet or by any political entity,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He described the allegations against him in blog reports and by the Opposition as “heaps of libellous statements and awful, ugly and wicked lies”.

“I state readily that any report by anyone so far related to this matter should be investigated under the country’s laws,” he said.

Dr Rais said he and his family members were prepared to extend full cooperation in such an investigation, and would accept and comply with any outcome of the official probe.

The allegations against a senior Malaysian Cabinet minister were contained in cables made public by whistle-blowing website Wikileaks.

Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) head Badrul Hisham Shaharin, or better known as Chegu Bard said it was strange that the minister had remained quiet although it had been days since the issue was first raised.

“As far as we are concerned, he is only guilty until proven guilty. He is still an innocent party but he must come forward and say something...Malaysians would assume that he is guilty if he continues to keep quiet,” he said.

Badrul Hisham said this before lodging a report on the matter at the Seremban 2 police station here.

“He must say something because almost every blogger isl talking about it. Although he is still innocent, the manner his name is being mentioned shows that he is guilty of the crime as he has chose to remain silent,” he said.

Following the revelation by Wikileaks, Migrant Care, a non-governmental organisation which looked into the wellbeing of Indonesian workers lodged a police report claiming that the victim was allegedly raped in Feb 2007. She was then deported to Indonesia.

Badul Hisham said since the minister had made a police report against a blogger immediately after the latter claimed that there were irregularities in the awarding of contracts in his ministry, it was only proper for the minister to respond to the latest allegation promptly.

“We are worried that being a senior minister, he can be blackmailed if he does not openly deny the charge. This will eventually become a problem to national security,” he said.

He said the police should also immediately start a probe into the allegation.

“If the police remains quiet, then the people would say that ministers are a privileged lot and given special protection,” he said adding that the minister should be suspended from his official duties pending the outcome of the investigations.

Badrul Hisham said if the authorities failed to address then allegation, this could cause unnecessary tension in ties between Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.

“We are giving the police 14 days to begin its probe into the allegation failing which we would be forced to adopt more drastic measures to compel the authorities to do so,” he said.

Meanwhile, PKR Youth said it believed the allegations concerning the rape of an Indonesian domestic helper by a Malaysian minister are true, said Youth head Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

“PKR Youth views such revelations seriously. The incident happened on Feb 19, 2007 but the (survivor) has been forced to keep mum as threats were made against her,” he claimed in a statement in a news portal.

He said no action had been taken against the minister for fear of regional conflict.

“The issue is being hotly debated in the cyber-world. As to the validity of the allegation, only (the minister) and God know (the truth),” he said, adding that the issue would affect ties between Malaysia and Indonesia if no action was taken.

He urged for an in-depth investigation to be conducted.

“The minister concerned should also come forward and set the record straight if there is no truth to the allegation,” he said.

He said PKR Youth would conduct a fact-finding mission to Indonesian non-govermental organisation Migrant Care who wrote the report after interviewing the victim, as well as to other Indonesian agencies.

The website also quoted Shamsul as saying that PKR Youth member, Badrul Hisham Shaharin - better known as Chegubard - planned to lodge a police report on the issue.

On Monday, Malaysiakini published a story entitled “Alleged rape victim fears minister’s reach” in which it quoted a purported letter by the victim’s younger sister who wanted justice to be done.

Malaysia, Indonesia bid to ease tensions after maritime spat

KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia, 6th September, 2010 — Malaysia and Indonesia on Monday, 6th September 2010, moved to calm a maritime border dispute that has sparked angry protests, with their foreign ministers agreeing to take action to prevent a repeat incident.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman met his Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa in eastern Sabah state after last month's flare-up triggered by the detention of Malaysian fishermen and Indonesian officials in disputed waters.

In the ensuing protest, human faeces were flung at the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta, forcing security at the Malaysian mission to be stepped up.

"Both nations agreed that preventive measures will be required to prevent a recurrence of the August 13 incident, and appropriate action will be taken to resolve various maritime border issues," the two ministers said.

"Two technical meetings will be held before the end of the year," they said in a joint statement after the meeting held in Sabah in the Malaysian part of Borneo, a vast island shared with Indonesia.

In an initial step, fishing vessels from both countries will be required to install a tracking system which will enable enforcement authorities to monitor their positions and issue warning notices in the case of encroachment.

Seven Malaysian fishermen were detained in disputed waters off southern Malaysia last month, by Indonesian authorities who accused them of straying into their territory.

Three of the Indonesian officials were detained by Malaysian maritime authorities who intercepted the group as they were being taken back to Indonesia.

All those involved have been released but the spat saw both countries send protest notes to the other.

Anifah said the whole incident was regrettable but insisted that the detention of the Indonesian fisheries enforcement officials was in line with Malaysian standard operating procedure.

"I want to make it clear that the treatment meted out to the three officials was not as bad as what was reported by sections of the Indonesian media," he told a press conference.

"However, in the aftermath of the incident, Malaysian enforcement officials will no longer handcuff Indonesian enforcement officials nor make them wear ?detainee uniforms?, if and when they are detained," he said.

Natalegawa said both sides agreed that intensifying negotiations -- which have already dragged on for 16 rounds with no resolution -- was the best way to avoid a recurrence of the problem.

"These meetings will come out with one standard operating procedure and rule of engagement for the enforcement units of both countries to engage when faced with a similar situation," he said.

The meetings aimed at resolving the maritime border issue will be held in Kuala Lumpur in October 11 and 12 and in Jakarta on November 23-24.

Anifah said discussions would cover zones in the Sulawesi Sea, the southernmost part of the Straits of Malacca, the South China Sea, and possibly the Singapore Straits.

Malaysia said last week that if there was no resolution, the border dispute could end up in the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
