beauty queen turned bandit queen

Beauty Queen - Laura Zuniga

Bandit Queen - Laura Zuniga

A reigning Mexican beauty queen from the drug-plagued state of Sinaloa was arrested on 23 December 2009 in Guadalajara, with suspected gang members in a truck filled guns and ammunition.

Miss Sinaloa 2008, Laura Zuniga stared at the ground, with her flowing dark hair concealing her face, as she stood squeezed between seven alleged gunmen lined up before journalists.

Soldiers wearing ski masks guarded the 23-year-old model and the suspects.

Zuniga was arrested at a military checkpoint in Zapopan, just outside the colonial city of Guadalajara.

Zuniga was riding in one of two trucks, where soldiers found a large stash of weapons, including two AR-15 assault rifles, 38 specials, 9mm handguns, nine magazines, 633 cartridges and $53,300 in U.S. currency.

Hmmm. what makes a beauty queen turns 360 degree to a BANDIT QUEEN??

However, Zuniga is not the most famous Bandit Queen yet....

Meet Phoolan Devi of India- The no. 1 Bandit Queen in the world - a modern day Robin Hood - albeit a female version.... who stole from the rich and gave to the poor.

Phoolan Devi might not be as beautiful as Laura Zuniga, but Phoolan Devi was 100 times fiercer than her.

She not only became a Bandit Queen but also turns 360 degree and became a Member of Parliament in India....!!!!

And there is also a movie about her in 1994....!!! in Bollywood of course - directed by Shekhar Kapur and starring Seema Biswas as Phoolan Devi.

One of her most famous attack was in February 14, 1981, where the then 18-year-old Phoolan Devi led a gang of 20 bandits in the village of Behmai in northern India, to hunt down the treacherous Ram brothers, Sri Ram Singh and Lala Ram Singh.

Sri Ram was a vicious gang leader who had spent time in prison. He was the focus of Phoolan Devi's lust for justice because he had murdered her lover, Vikram Mallah, as she slept by his side.

The final death toll on that day - 21 people in Behmai village.

Phoonal Devi and her gang finally surrendered to the then Indira Gandhi led government in February 1983 at Bhind.

She laid her rifle before the portraits of Gandhi and Goddess Durga.

The onlookers included a crowd of around 10,000 people and 300 police officers who were waiting to arrest her and other members of her gang.

Phoolan Devi was charged with 48 crimes, including 30 charges of banditry, kidnapping and murders.

Her trial was delayed for 11 years, which she served in the prison.

She was finally released on parole in 1994. Then she launched Eklavya Sena, a group that was aimed at teaching lower caste people the art of self-defense.

In 1996, Phoolan Devi ran for a seat in the Indian Parliament as a Samajwadi Party candidate and guess what - she was elected!!! And re-elected in 1999.

She explained her political objectives, stating, "My main goal is that things that only the rich and privileged have enjoyed until now should also be given to the poor: for example, drinking water, electricity, schools and hospitals...

On July 25, 2001, Phoolan Devi was assasinated.

She was shot dead as she got out of her car at the gate of her New Delhi residence. The assailants also wounded her bodyguard, before escaping..

The accused are Sher Singh Rana, Dheeraj Rana and Rajbir.

Sher Singh Rana later surrendered and confessed to the murder, saying he was avenging the deaths of the 22 villagers at Behmai.

Hail to Laura Zuniga and Phoolan Devi...

what a pity that the beauty queen is not really 'clean' afterall.

what a pity that someone who wanted justice and making things right been assasinated. one could always wonder why good people die faster than the baddies.
