Malaysia ranked world’s 10th largest consumer of alcohol

This is shocking.. i didn't know that Malaysians are the 10th heaviest drinkers in the world despite only having 29 million population and despite Malaysia being a Muslim country...

According to media reports today 23th May 2011, Malaysia has been named by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the world’s 10th largest consumer of alcohol.

This unwanted "milestone" was achieved despite its small population and size. Malaysia has only 29 million population.

Statistics by the international body this year also showed that Malaysians spent over US$ 500 million (RM1.5 bilion) on alcohol with a per capita consumption of seven litres.

Beer consumption in Malaysia is 11 litres per capita.

In disclosing this, Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Heng Seai Kie said the problem of alcohol consumption in the country was getting serious.

“Alcohol is not only causing a lot of health issues but is also contributing to a significant number of accidents,” she said in Kuala Lumpur on Monday 23rd May 2011.

She said the ministry, through the National Population and Family Development Board, would hold a campaign to create awareness on the danger of alcohol abuse.



Imagine the RM1.5 billion spent by Malaysians to drink beer last year... that whopping amount can be used to build roads, houses, water and electricity supply to the rural folks especially in the interior of Sabah and Sarawak.

In Kuala Lumpur, the distributor of an Iranian halal non-alcoholic “beer” said that it had never used the term “beer” on their product.

Malaysian Iranian Corporation Sdn Bhd executive director Azizi Ahmad said his company realised that Muslims might be concerned about the term “beer” on the Iranian-made drink called Istak.

“Istak is actually a malt drink, which had received the halal certification from the Iranian government 10 years ago,” he told Utusan Malaysia.

He added that Iran was known to impose strict halal regulations on commercial products.

The paper had published concerns from several Islamic NGOs who disagreed with the usage of the term “beer” on the drink.

Azizi said his company had never issued brochures saying that the Istak drink was a “halal beer,” adding that he would contact the NGOs to clarify the matter.

Beware... Beer contains female hormones...!!!

Awas… Achtung…. Attention… Beware….

Beer contains female hormones.. And Men are strongly advised against consuming it.

This is the result of a recent analysis that proved beyond doubt the presence of female hormones in beer.

Beer, simply put, is a fermented beverage made from cereal grain and is made of 4 basic ingredients- barley, hops, yeast and water.

Here we focus specially on Hops.

Hops are the small, green "flowers" of the vining plant known as Humulus Lupulus.

If barley represents the essential sugar of beer, hops represent the balancing spice.

Without the contribution of hops, beer would be a very sweet and unbalanced drink.

Originally hops were used solely for their bittering, flavoring and aromatic properties.

However over the centuries, brewing scientists discovered that hops also contribute natural clarifying agents that help to clear the beer, as well as bacterial inhibitors that stave off contamination caused by beer-ruining germs.

The theory is that after scientifically analyzing hops, beer is found to contain female hormones or Phytoestrogens.

So it was concluded that by drinking enough beer, men can turn into women.

To test the theory, 100 men drank 8 pints of beer each within an hour.

After that period, tests done on those 100 men found out that they :

1) Argued over nothing.

2) Refused to apologize when obviously wrong.

3) Gained weight.

4) Talked excessively without making sense.

5) Became overly emotional

6) Couldn't drive.

7) Failed to think rationally.

8) Had to sit down while urinating.

No further testing was considered necessary.

So to all men out there, you have been warned... no excessive beer especially during the festive season!
