AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes was named GQ India’s ‘International Businessman of the Year’ at the GQ Men of the Year Awards 2012 held in Mumbai, India, recently.

Tony, highly recognized for his influential actions for directly shaping the way the aviation industry has evolved, joined the ranks of other distinguished men who have won GQ Men of the Year awards previously such as John Travolta, Rahul Dravid, Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Anil Kapoor, among others.

Tony, excited to receive the award, said, “When I was told that I was to receive an award from GQ India, I knew right away it was not because of my fashion sense. It was an honour for me to receive this award and I would like to thank GQ India for the prestigious recognition. It was also great to meet up with the dazzling GQ India team, whose effort in recognizing talents and hard work is commendable as it motivates people to be the best. This year’s award winners comprised of amazing individuals, and I was pleased to see Rahul Dravid awarded the GQ Legend award. A great sportsman, brilliant achievement and a true legend!”

Across the world, GQ Men of the Year are considered extremely prestigious and conferred to some of the most stylish personalities and significant achievers. International winners include the likes of Barack Obama, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Clinton, Michael Caine and Gordon Ramsay. Last year, GQ India’s winners included Shahrukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar, A.R. Rahman, Imran Khan, Yuvraj Singh and Frieda Pinto among others.

The International Businessman of the Year award from GQ India is Tony’s fifth personal accolade received this year. In July, he was named as one of Malaysia’s outstanding CEOs by The Edge Billion Ringgit Club (BRC), for taking AirAsia to the extra mile in the aviation industry.

In June 2012, he was honoured with the ‘Best CEO for IR – Mid Cap’ award by the Malaysian Investor Relations Association Berhad (MIRA), two months after receiving the ‘Best CEO for Malaysia’ award by Corporate Governance Asia, at the 2nd Asian Excellence Recognition Awards in April 2012.

Earlier this year in February, 2012 he was bestowed with the Individual Achievement of the Year award at the 1st Malaysia Achievement Awards 2012, organised by the Malaysia Achievement Organisation (MACA).

Nama Malaysia dan syarikat Malaysia di Liga Perdana Inggeris, EPL.

Liga Perdana Inggeris atau EPL adalah liga bolasepak paling ditonton, paling terkenal dan paling menguntungkan di dunia, menewaskan Liga Primera Sepanyol atau La Liga, Liga Jerman atau Bundesliga, Liga Itali atau Serie A, Liga Amerika Syarikat dan jauh meninggalkan Liga Super Malaysia.

Kita tahu, tiada pemain Malaysia yang pernah bermain untuk pasukan di EPL. Jangan kan EPL, liga bawahan seperti Divisyen 1, 2 dan 3 Liga Inggeris pun tiada pemain Malaysia pernah mengecap aksi di padang.

Ini kerana peraturan EPL hanya membenarkan pemain dari negara 70 tangga teratas ranking FIFA untuk bermain di EPL, kita tahu Malaysia di ranking ke 100 lebih dunia.

Jadi, kempunanlah kita menyaksikan pemain Malaysia beraksi di EPL.

Namun meskipun demikian, nama Malaysia dan syarikat Malaysia tetap gah, harum dan terkenal di EPL, hasil usaha dan inisiatif usahawan Malaysia.

Lihat saja pasukan QPR atau Queens Park Rangers, tertera di jersi mereka ialah Malaysia Airlines. Nama Malaysia itu dipancarkan kepada ratusan juta penonton dan peminat EPL di seluruh dunia, lebih lebih lagi jika QPR berdepan dengan pasukan ternama EPL seperti Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea dan Manchester United.

Ini kerana QPR dimiliki usahawan Malaysia iaitu Tan Sri Tony Fernandez, boss Air Asia.

Begitu juga pasukan Aston Villa, tertera di jersinya ialah Genting Berhad, syarikat yang terkenal dengan industri pelancongan Genting Highlands.

Pasukan Cardiff City di Wales juga menampilkan nama Malaysia pada jersinya kerana Cardiff City dimiliki jutawan Malaysia.

Malahan, tertera di lengan baju pengadil ialah Air Asia dan Tune Hotel, 2 syarikat milik Malaysia.

Itulah kejayaan Malaysia di EPL.

Tony Fernandes awarded ‘Best CEO for Malaysia’ at the 2nd Asian Excellence Recognition Awards !

SEPANG, 4 April 2012 – AirAsia Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes was honoured with the ‘Best CEO for Malaysia’ award—for two years in a row--at the recent 2nd Asian Excellence Recognition Awards by Corporate Governance Asia, held in Hong Kong.

The award recognizes his achievement in being a revolutionary force in the aviation industry. He is often acknowledged for his influential actions for directly shaping the way the aviation industry has evolved.

Under Fernandes’ leadership, AirAsia has grown into a world-class and innovative brand with its revolutionary low fares, premium products and high quality services.

Besides Fernandes’ personal award, AirAsia also bagged two other awards at the ceremony. AirAsia was named---for two years in succession—as the winner for ‘Best Investor Relations Company for Malaysia’ and ‘Best Investor Relations Officer for Malaysia’.

AirAsia Manager of Investor Relations, Benyamin Ismail represented the airline in receiving the awards. Benyamin Ismail himself was awarded the ‘Best Investor Relations Officer for Malaysia’, a second for him since the award was introduced.

The Asian Excellence Recognition Awards recognizes excellence in investor communications, business ethics, corporate social responsibility, environmental practices and financial performances. The ‘Best Investor Relations Company for Malaysia’ award from Corporate Governance Asia is the third award won by AirAsia this year.

In January, the airline won the inaugural ‘Value Airline of the Year for 2012’ at Penton Media’s Air Transport World® (ATW), the leading monthly magazine covering the global airline industry. Following that, in February, AirAsia was crowned Asiamoney’s ‘Best Managed Company in Malaysia (Medium Cap) Award 2011’.

Tony Fernandes Not Leaving AirAsia

We refer to BERNAMA’s news report with the headline ‘Tony Fernandes May Leave AirAsia, No Timeline Set’, published on 8 December 2011 at 5.29pm (GMT +8). We wish to clarify that the report is inaccurate, and at this point of time already removed from the agency’s website.

Tan Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes’ statement was made only in reference to his aspiration and expectation of the quality of his successor, should he decides to retire in the future. However, our Group CEO does not have any plans to relinquish his leadership of the company any time ‘soon’ as suggested by the article.

The article also mentioned a statement made by Fernandes saying “…the three of us have plenty of things to do.” This is clear indication that Fernandes, along with AirAsia Chairman Dato’ Aziz Bakar and Deputy Group CEO Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun, will continue to pursue more opportunities with the airline and endow the company with their leadership for many years to come.

MY SAY > Well how come Mr Fernandes is leaving the biggest and most successful airlines in the world? Apart from AirAsia, Fernandes also owns Queens Park Rangers football club in the English Premier League and Team Lotus Formula 1.

AirAsia's Tony Fernandes to start new airline: report, 9th November 2011

AirAsia chief executive officer Tony Fernandes is planning to start a new regional airline to compete with Australian carrier Qantas, a news report said Wednesday, 9th November 2011.

The Sun daily reported, quoting unnamed aviation sources, that the airline would be a super-premium full-service carrier to rival Qantas' upcoming carrier RedQ.

Plans are for the airline, likely to be called Caterham Jet, to be operating from an airport near the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur from May next year, the report said.

Proposed routes include Bangkok, Jakarta and Singapore, it said. The airline has yet to obtain an operating license from the government though several Bombardier CRJ have been secured, the report said.



Fernandes, who is also Formula One Team Lotus principal, bought British sports car company Caterham Cars earlier this year.

He is also the owner of Queens Park Rangers, the English Premier League outfit.



An AirAsia spokesman said the budget carrier could not immediately comment on the report. Fernandes, who was travelling in Tokyo, could not immediately be reached.

Malaysia-based AirAsia has become one of the airline industry's biggest success stories after Fernandes acquired the then-failing company a decade ago.

Its 2010 full-year net profit nearly doubled to 1.07 billion ringgit ($340 million) compared to 2009.



Embattled Australian carrier Qantas recently grounded its global fleet for two days to force an end to months of strike action by pilots, engineers and ground staff, leaving some 70,000 travellers stranded.
