The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey, London, is estimated to bring an extra 250 million pound sterling revenue to the United Kingdom, in terms of tourists arrival and spending and other related costs.

Well, here is a list of prestigious and most expensive royal wedding ever held on this planet..




1. Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, British Royal Couple - 29 July 1981

When Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer were married at London's St Paul's Cathedral on 29 July 1981 or 30 years ago to this day, the lavish wedding attracted a worldwide audience of some 750 million people.

The cost of the event has never been disclosed but it was undoubtedly an extravagant affair. Diana's engagement ring, now worn by Kate Middleton, cost around £30,000 then, that's about £85,000 in today's money.









And the show-stopping three-and-a-half minute walk up the aisle gave everyone a chance to see her unforgettable Emmanuel-designed ivory, taffeta and antique lace gown with that 25-foot train, which cost £9,000 then, about £25,000 today.



2. Al-Muhtadee Billah and Sarah Salleh, Brunei royal couple - 9 September 2004

On September 9, 2004, Oxford-educated Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, heir to the Sultan of Brunei, married 17-year-old Pengiran Anak Sarah Pengiran Salleh at Nurul Iman Palace in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, in an elaborate affair.

The wedding, which was estimated to cost £2.8 million, was pure extravagance, with endless ceremonies said to "showcase centuries of Bruneian tradition". Countless royals and leaders from around the world attended the nuptials of the first-born son of the Sultan. The prince will eventually be the 30th sultan in an unbroken chain of rulers stretching back through Brunei's more than 600 years as a Malay Muslim kingdom. The bride was born to a Bruneian father and a Swiss-born nurse, Suzanne Aeby.

Prominent guests from all over the world who flew to Brunei to witness the historic and grand occasion included the Duke of Gloucester, Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Princes Bandar and Saud al-Faisal of Saudi Arabia, the King of Bahrain and other Malaysian sultans.

The wedding was also attended by heads of state and government from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.











The wedding included a bersanding ceremony and a drive around Bandar Seri Begawan in a golden-topped Rolls Royce by the couple where they were greeted by crowds lining the streets.



3. Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling - Royal couple of Sweden - 19 June 2010

When Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria married her former personal trainer Daniel Westling on 19 June 2010, at the Stockholm Cathedral, the bill topped 20 million kronor, about £1.9 million.

Some 250,000 people, including an estimated 150,000 tourists, lined the streets of Stockholm to watch Sweden's fairytale wedding take place in front of 1,000 dignitaries from around the world.

The wedding had dominated the city's life for weeks before, with lavish flower arrangements adorning the streets and Swedish furniture giant Ikea erecting a two-storey replica of the princess' castle in the centre.

If Crown Princess Victoria ascends to the throne as expected, she will be Sweden's fourth queen regnant after Margaret, Christina and Ulrika Eleonora.



4. Crown Prince Pavlos and Marie-Chantal Miller - Greece Royal Couple - 1st July 1995

One of the most lavish ceremonies London has seen took place on the 1st of July 1995 at St Sophia's Cathedral in Bayswater, London, between the crown prince of Greece, Pavlosis the eldest son of Constantine II, King of the Hellenes from 1964 to 1973and an American heiress Marie-Chantal Miller.

The lavish and glamorous wedding, was hosted by Marie-Chantal Miller's billionaire father, Robert Warren Miller, reportedly cost £1 million and was attended by 1,400 prestigious guests, among them the late Queen Mother.

No expense was spared, with the personal florist of the Danish royal family and six assistants flown in to decorate the cathedral with 30,000 pink flowers hung in garlands.

The bride's dress was made from pearl-encrusted ivory silk, with a 4.5-metre Chantilly lace train, and reportedly cost £150,000. Before the couple's wedding, Marie-Chantal's father provided her with a £200 million dowry (My God!!!)




5. Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III - Royal Couple of Monaco - 19 April 1956


The church ceremony took place at Monaco's Saint Nicholas Cathedral on 19th April 1956.

Before she was known as the Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly was a highly successful Hollywood superstar.

For the special day, Grace Kelly's wedding dress, designed by MGM's Academy Award–winning Helen Rose, was worked on for six weeks by three dozen seamstresses.

The ceremony was watched by an estimated 30 million people on television.

The 600 odd and special invited guests included Hollywood stars David Niven and his wife Hjördis, Gloria Swanson, Ava Gardner, the crowned head Aga Khan, Gloria Guinness, Daisy Fellowes, Etti Plesch, Lady Diana Cooper, Enid, Lady Kenmare, Loelia, Duchess of Westminster and Conrad Hilton.









Old Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra initially accepted an invitation but at the last minute decided otherwise, afraid of upstaging the bride on her wedding day.

The prince and princess left that night for their seven-week Mediterranean honeymoon cruise on Rainier's yacht, Deo Juvante II.

In terms of wedding presents, Aristotle Onassis gave the happy couple a 147-foot yacht, while the people of Monaco gave them a cream and black Rolls-Royce convertible. Whoaaa... Mama Mia!!!
