In Malaysia, the mood has been frenzy lately with newsreports of a so called female ‘casanova’ who already conned six men and is said to be very pretty.
According to newsreports in the mainstream Malaysian newspapers, the female “Casanova” who promised to marry six men she befriended is said to be a sweet talker and very pretty.
“That is why so many people fell for her. They were blinded by her beauty and did not bother to check her background,” said MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief Datuk Michael Chong.
“I have not met this girl in person, but was told by those who had seen her, including one of her victims, that she was good-looking and very convincing.”
The 25-year-old serial heartbreaker has been detained by police following a report lodged by the family of her latest victim last week.
The woman was said to have collected money from the victim’s family members and friends, purportedly for investment.
Chong urged those wanting to get married to get to know the other person better before walking down the aisle.
“Those who want to marry must insist on registering their marriage as this is one way to protect both parties,” he added.
It had been reported that the woman would give her victims various excuses to postpone their marriage registrations, agreeing to only hold the customary Chinese wedding ceremony.
She would then run away with the money that they gave her.
In the latest incident, the woman befriended a 25-year-old man on
Facebook in March and subsequently moved in with him.
A month later, she told the victim she was pregnant but refused to go for a pre-natal check-up.
In May, they went through a Chinese wedding ceremony in the victim’s hometown in Sabah.
The victim’s family claimed that the woman collected RM300,000 from family members before running away after they became suspicious.
Chong said one of the victims had sought his help as his friends and loan sharks were after him for the money taken by the woman.
“The victim wants me to explain to his friends that he was cheated by the woman,” he said.
“But, I cannot help much here as it is his own folly. Besides, his friends banked the money into his account.”
The victim has since gone into hiding.
However on the 13th of August 2010, 2 of the female casanova “victims” mustered enough courage and met the local media to tell the public about their love-tale with the ravishing female casanova.
The 2nd and 6th "husbands:, revealed that they fell for her “at first sight”.
For her sixth and most-recent husband, the 25-year-old was very charming.
She was accused of getting six men to marry her in traditional Chinese ceremonies by claiming she was pregnant, and later ran off with money belonging not only to them, but also to their relatives and friends.
This was a nasty surprise for the sixth husband, a 25-year-old technician who identified himself only as Chung.
He only knew about his wife’s past after his sister showed him an article about her.
“I feel bad about bringing trouble to my family and friends,” he said at a press conference at Wisma MCA yesterday.
His family and friends confronted the woman and she confessed to everything. They then turned her in to the police.
Chung got to know her via Facebook in March, and she asked him out the next day, beginning a relationship that would cost him RM15,000 and his family and friends a further RM300,000.
A month later, she told him she was pregnant, but made excuses when the excited Chung wanted to follow her for check-ups with a doctor.
“She was very smart, she bought pre-natal supplements to create the impression she was pregnant,” he said, adding that she also wore large-sized clothes, stuffing it to enhance the illusion.
Chung had no idea she was trapping his family and friends into making fake investments until “everyone started hunting him for money”.
Her second husband, who wanted to be known only as Lee, married her in 2006 after she told him she was pregnant but things started to deteriorate when debt collectors showed up daily.
MCA Complaints Bureau chief Datuk Michael Chong said: “This is the first time we have encountered a case of a woman having cheated not one or two, but six husbands.”
