Najib visits Myanmar, 28th March 2012

NAYPYITAW (Myanmar): Myanmar rolled out the red carpet for Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who arrived here Wednesday, 28th March 2012, on his maiden official visit to the country.

Myanmar President U Thein Sein and his wife, Khin Khin Win, welcomed Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, upon their arrival at the Union President's Office.

After the national anthems of both countries were played, Najib inspected a guard-of-honour.

Najib and Thein Sein later held a restricted meeting, which was followed by a delegation meeting.

Their spouses, meanwhile, held a separate meeting, with Rosmah calling on Khin Win at the same venue. Najib, who is on a two-day official visit, has a heavy itinerary aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

Joining him on the visit is a 100-member strong delegation, with more than 50 of them businessmen.

Malaysia and Myanmar established diplomatic relations in 1957 and have a close and friendly relationship which is characterised by an excellent network of cooperation in various fields including trade and investment, technical cooperation, human capital development, banking and finance, defence, tourism, plantation, sports and hydrocarbon exploration.

Najib will wrap up his first day of the visit by attending a state banquet with Rosmah at the Union President's Palace.

Meanwhile, in a joint statement issued at the end of the meeting between Najib and Thein Sein, Malaysian and Myanmar leaders have agreed to foster greater political linkages and cooperation in strategic fields and elevate the levels of trade and investment to enhance bilateral relations.

Expressing satisfaction at the excellent state of bilateral relations at all levels and positive growth in trade and investment, the two leaders reaffirmed the commitment to consolidate existing bilateral relations and strive for greater cooperation in strategic areas of mutual interest.

"Both leaders agreed that mutual trust and understanding, including constant engagement in dialogue, are the ingredients for elevating the friendly and constructive relations between the two countries," said the statement.

Both sides agreed to convene the first Joint Commission Meeting, to be headed by the respective foreign ministers, to continuously facilitate consultation and cooperation in the areas of common interest at a mutually agreed date.

The two leaders agreed to foster political linkages through exchanges of visits at all levels in order to further enhance government-to-government cooperation and people-to-people contacts.

Both leaders also agreed to explore the possibilities of expanding cooperation in potential sectors in the Myanmar economy, particularly in plantation, agriculture, energy, construction, manufacturing, telecommunications, tourism and hospitality where Malaysia has the experience.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the close cooperation between the two countries in the areas of labour and human resources and both countries acknowledged the important contribution of Myanmar's labour force to Malaysia's economic development.

The two sides also agreed to continue working together in the capacity building field through specific identified training courses under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) according to Myanmar's immediate needs.

The Malaysian and Myanmar leaders also looked forward to collaborating closely to ensure the success of Myanmar's chairmanship of Asean in 2014 before the eventual succession of Malaysia in 2015.

The two leaders welcomed the cooperation in the field of training for young and mid-level diplomatic officers to enhance the skills of officers in light of Myanmar's chairmanship of Asean in 2014.

Both sides also agreed to enhance collaboration in the field of sports through assistance and sharing of experience vis-a-vis Myanmar's preparation in hosting the SEA Games next year.

The leaders of both countries reaffirmed that the official visit by Najib to Myanmar has further strengthened the bilateral ties.

Najib also extended an invitation to Thein Sein to undertake an official visit to Malaysia.

International Actress, Michelle Yeoh deported by Myanmar

Datuk Michelle Yeoh has finally broken her silence on her recent deportation from Myanmar. In an exclusive e-mail to The Daily Chilli, The Star's news portal, the Malaysian superstar actress said she was "shocked and saddened" by the incident.

"On June 22, I was denied entry to Burma," Michelle stated her case. "The immigration authorities treated me cordially, but deported me upon arrival for no reason and without providing any justification. I was shocked and terribly saddened by this action."

The inside news that she got is that the military-backed Myanmar government is unhappy with her buzzworthy pro-democracy film, The Lady.

Directed by highly praised French director Luc Besson, The Lady casts Michelle as Myanmar freedom fighter, Aung San Suu Kyi - who was put under house arrest most of her life by the former military junta.

But the high-spirited Hollywood star shows courage and positivity in adversity.

"I harbour no ill will resulting from this incident," Michelle maintained. "I'm always fond of Burma and the Burmese people. I will continue to cherish hopes that this country will continue its progress towards peace and democracy, and that I will be able to return (to Myanmar) soon."

Malaysian born International Actress, Michelle Yeoh who has appearead in numerous blockbuster films including in James Bond's Tommorow Never Dies in 1997, Memoirs of a Geisha and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, has been deported by Myanmar authority.

She was also blacklisted and will never be allowed and permitted to enter Myanmar.

Why??

Because Michelle Yeoh plays the role of Myanmar's democracy icon and Nobel Peace prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi in an upcoming film about Suu Kyi life.

The film currently being edited is due for release in late August or early September 2011.

Yeoh was stopped by Myanmar authority as soon as her arrival at the Rangoon International Airport and was deported straight away on the first available flight.

The Myanmar Junta is too much.. right??

In this case, Slyvester Stallone will also be barred permanently from entering Burma or Myanmar permanently. Why? Because Stallone has angered the Burmese insane and mad Junta in his latest Rambo movie, Rambo 4.

In Rambo 4, Stallone almost single-handedly annihilated and destroyed a whole batalion of Burmese army who earlier killed innocent Karen rebels and abducted an American Mercy Group.

According to the Daily Telegraph, no reason was given for Michelle Yeoh shocking ejection from Myanmar, but the Hollywood actress was known to have spent some time with Miss Suu Kyi after her release from house arrest last December 2010 in preparation for her role in The Lady, as the Nobel peace laureate is universally known in Burma.

Suu Kyi, the leader of opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) was freed after spending most of the past 20 years in detention just days after Burma's first elections in two decades, widely criticised as a sham the military junta still holds the reins of power.

Suu Kyi's NLD boycotted the poll, and though the military regime handed control to the civilian government in March 2011, few believed it is anything more than a rubber stamp for the will of the generals and their cronies.

Michelle Yeoh, the 48-year-old Malaysian actress who filmed the work with French director Luc Besson in neighbouring Thailand, said she hoped the piece would raise awareness about Suu Kyi, 66.

Yeoh felt that many people had forgotten or misunderstood Suu Kyi's story after almost 20 years cut off from the world in detention.

Michelle Yeoh to play Aung San Suu Kyi in film role

Aung San Suu Kyi is currently the world's democracy icon. As leader of the National League for Demcoracy, NLD, she fought tirelessly for democracy in military ruled Burma (Myanmar). As a result of overwhelming support for her and the NLD, the Myanmar military junta put her under house arrest twice between 1989 to 1995 and between 2003 to November 13th, 2010. She won the Nobel peace prize in 1991.

Suu Kyi release came a week after Burma's first election in 20 years in which neither she nor her party could participate. The military junta has kept her locked away for 15 of the past 21 years.




Michelle Yeoh is Malaysia's own and very first James Bond girl. In 1997, she starred alongside Pierce Brosnan in the Bond film "Tomorrow never dies". In 2000, she starred in the classic Ang Lee's movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". The movie won 40 awards including Best Foreign Film in the annual Academy Awards in 2001. Michelle was Miss Malaysia in 1983. She is from Ipoh, Perak - a town well known as the city of pretty girls of Malaysia.

This week, Michelle Yeoh had been spending time with Aung San Suu Kyi to research a possible film role as the Nobel Peace laureate.

Yeoh chatted with Ms Suu Kyi in an airport waiting lounge on Tuesday 7th December 2010 as the pro-democracy leader bid farewell to her youngest son, Kim Aris, 33, who lives in England.

Kim Aris was finally allowed to visit his mother in Burma for the first time in a decade after her recent release from house arrest since 2003.

Suu Kyi was first arrested in 1989 when Kim Aris was 11 and his older brother, Alexander, was 16.

Meanwhile, Michelle, the former Bond girl had spent the day with Ms Suu Kyi on Monday, 6th December 2010 as part of research for an apparent forthcoming film about the democracy icon, said Ms Suu Kyi's lawyer Nyan Win.

It was reported that the film will be directed by Frenh director Luc Besson and will be filmed around Bangkok, Thailand including areas around Muang Thong Thani and Khlong Song in Pathum Thani.

Filem menceritakan liku liku perjalanan hidup dan perjuangan ikon demokrasi Myamnar dan simbol keamanan dunia sejagat itu.
