In the 2010, Commonwealth Games in her home country in New Delhi, India, Saina beat Malaysia's top player - Wong Mew Choo in the mixed team event. However Malaysia went on to win the gold courtesy of their men's world no. 1 Lee Chong Wei, men doubles' world no. 1 Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong and also the mixed doubles pair of Boon Heong and Wong Pei Ty.

In the individual event, Saina Nehwal created history by blanking her opponent from Northern Ireland, Caroline Black 21-0, 21-2.

Being a Malaysian, I am of course a hardcore badminton supporter of Malaysia.

However i am tempted to blog about Saina Nehwal - a badminton player from India.

To start with, Badminton may not be a popular sport in India. India itself is not a badminton powerhouse as compared to China, Indonesia, Malaysia & Denmark.

However, India had their own badminton greats - notably 3 persons.

The late Syed Modi, the 1982 Commonwealth Games champion, 1980 All England champion Prakash Padukone and very recently Pullela Gopichand who captured the 2001 All England crown, but the list STOP there. There are no new notabale badminton players from India.

But 7 years after Pullela Gopichand's historic All England crown, India has once again produce a rising badminton superstar - a fresh hope, a new phenomenon, an excitement of the badminton world.

The name is Saina Nehwal - hardly rings any bells right?

Instead Sania Mirza (India's hot and beautiful tennis superstar) is currently ringing the bell as India's most popular sportswoman and perhaps among the sexiest in the Tennis world too..!!

However, Saina Nehwal, grabbed India's cricket crazy media attention in the Beijing Olympics last August when she became the first ever Indian shuttler to reach the quarter-finals at the Olympics.

A month after the Olympics, the 18 year old girl from Haryana went on to win the Taiwan Open and reached the semi-finals of the China Masters Super Series and the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open which helped her to a career high World No 10 ranking.

Another significant breakthrough was achieved when she became the FIRST Indian player to win a world junior crown in Pune in November, further cementing her potential as one of the players to watch out in the future.

In the ongoing Badminton World Super Series Master Final in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, Saina, coached by none other than Pullela Gopichand himself, reached the Semi Final after defeating Pi Hong Yan of France and local hero Wong Mew Choo of Malaysia.

In the semi final match, Saina fought bravely, gamely, steadfastly, gigantically and heroically against her much fancied opponent - Hong Kong's Wang Chen, winning the first set 21-15. However she eventually lost the 2 remaining sets, 14-21, 16-21.

at first there are speculations that North Korean Dear Leader, Kim Jong Ill may be seriously ill. However it was denied by Pyong yang.

and then there's a news report about the alleged plot to assasinate the Dear Leader.

"SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea claimed Thursday that it has arrested a South Korean-hired agent it strongly suggested was tasked with assassinating the country's absolute leader, Kim Jong Il.
The North's Ministry of State Security said in a statement it had arrested a North Korean on a "terrorist mission" ordered by a South Korean intelligence organization "to do harm to the top leader" of North Korea.
The statement, carried by the country's official Korean Central News Agency, did not mention Kim Jong Il by name, but South Korean Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Ho-nyeon said the North's state media has before used such wording to refer to him.
Kim of the Unification Ministry, which handles relations with the North, said he was in no position to confirm the report.
The National Intelligence Service — South Korea's main spy agency — said it was checking the claim."

Wow!! we need to restore order here!!! For a start, North Korea is no pushover in terms of military strength. the reclusive nation has nuclear, biological and chemical weapons and many other weapons that is beyond your wildest imagination. Infact North Korea is among the strongest nations in terms of military might!!!

Dewasa ini, isu cadangan menswastakan Institut Jantung Negara, IJN mengisi laporan muka hadapan media cetak dan elektronik tempatan. Adakan penswastaan itu benar benar perlu?

PRIVATISED HOSPITALS ARE RUN ON A BUSINESS BASIS WITH OBJECTIVE OF EARNING PROFITS - TO MAKE MONEY
It is unlikely that Sime Darby will run IJN as a social and charitable hospital, like a government hospital. Its objective is to earn as much profits as possible. There are too many private hospitals in the country which charge substantially, which only the rich could afford.
With Sime Darby at the controls of IJN, the poor who form the majority of the patients will suffer, and being unable to pay, they will not have access to health care offered by IJN as of today.
The government stands to lose by giving control of IJN away:-
1 IJN is a going concern and successfully managed and bringing great benefits to the people and a sound reputation internationally as a well-organised heart centre.
2. as an institute with excellent facilities and world class medical expertise, it is well placed to lead the battle against the threat of heart disease as the number one killer in the country. This is the sacred duty of IJN. This role cannot be performed by a private hospital whose aim is to make profits.
3. The government must not relinquish its responsibility by giving up the one place where heart patients look confidently for care and treatment, in particular the poor of this country.

1. I have always been for privatisation. In fact privatisation started during my time. People know all about the Government companies, departments and functions which were privatised. Some were successful, some were not. But I don't think people know about privatisation proposals which had been rejected. I know about them because the proposals were studied carefully before they were rejected. There were reasons of course but there was no necessity to make public the rejections or the reasons.2. With regard to the Institut Jantung Negara, I must say I have a personal attachment to it. I don't think I need to explain why. Felt died Thursday in Santa Rosa after suffering from congestive heart failure for several months.
The shadowy central figure in one of the most gripping political dramas of the 20th century, Felt insisted his alter ego be kept secret when he leaked damaging information about President Richard Nixon and his aides to Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward.
While some — including Nixon and his aides — speculated that Felt was the source who connected the White House to the June 1972 break-in at the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee, he steadfastly denied the accusations until finally coming forward in May 2005 - 31 years after Nixon resigned.
"I'm the guy they used to call Deep Throat," Felt told Vanity Fair article, creating a whirlwind of media attention. REST IN PEACE SIR..

what happen to the iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at President Bush??

BAGHDAD – The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush during a news conference was beaten afterward and had bruises on his face and around his eyes, a judge said Friday. (Was he beaten with a size 10 shoe?? or hammered with a spiked Adidas football boot???)
Judge Dhia al-Kinani, the magistrate investigating the incident, said the court has opened an investigation into the alleged beating of journalist Muntadhar al-Zeidi.
Al-Zeidi was wrestled to the ground (Iraqi & Secret service style - almost like a greco roman move or WCW's Goldberg Spear & Jackhammer...!!!) after throwing his shoes during the news conference Sunday by Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, and there has been conflicting claims on his condition since then.
One of his brothers said he was harshly beaten (uhh... maybe beaten Gestapo or Gulag style) but another said he seemed to be in good condition. (served with capucinno, chicken boxing, the finest wine, watched ET, Rumble in the Bronx, Men in Black I & II and Rambo 4... hehehe).

Al-Zeidi "was beaten in the news conference and we will watch the tape and write an official letter asking for the names of those who assaulted him," the judge told The Associated Press. "Al-Zeidi has the right to drop this case." (come on man, u cannot just drop it like that???? s@#$% you!!!)
The journalist was in custody and was expected to eventually face charges of insulting a foreign leader (or in this case - the most powerful man in the world who ducked in time - donald duck style).
A conviction could bring a sentence of two years in prison.
Al-Kinani also confirmed that the journalist had written a letter of apology to al-Maliki. Iraq's president can grant pardons that are requested by the prime minister, but the judge said such a pardon can be issued only after a conviction. (yeahhh.... true hehehaa)

As for my personal opinion.... George Best tops it all.... this mercurial Northern Ireland international not only had the skill, but also possess a Pop superstar look... At first look, one may mistaken him as a member of the Beatles... infact he was dubbed as the 5th Beatles. For football fans, George Best was and will always remain a legend.. He was one of the first celebrity footballers, winning the European footballer of the year in the 1966-1967 season - the same year The Beatles kickstarted its phenomenal music career.
Best scored 178 goals in 466 apperance for Manchester United in all competition since 1963 t0 1974.

To sum it up, Maradonna Good, Pele better, but George Best..!! Rest in Peace sir...

Next on my list is Italy's Roberto Baggio. Dubbed "the divine ponytail", Baggio is among the best technically gifted players in the world in the 1990s. He played and scored 9 goals in 3 world cups (1990, 94 and 98), the first Italian player to achieve such feat.. However with his good looks, he was very popular among female fans including his most famous fan- Madonna (not Maradona!!)
