Woman almost died trying to lose weight on Biggest Loser Asia

(Above) First female winner of BIGGEST LOSER, Ali Vincent, talks to Hollywood 411 about her big loss (big money win) and her mother's support that brought her to first place. Ali Vincent who lose a total of 112 pounds became Biggest Loser Biggest Winner, pocketing USD250,000 for her feat!! Nice ha?? She won three things here - Losing weight, Winning USD250,000 and became famous worldwide!!

Strange haa? You become the Biggest Loser, yet you are the Biggest Winner!!!

Well, Some women who participated in that reality TV show are not that fortunate.

Some women, willing to go into the extreme just to lose weight in that TV show, ended up nearly losing their own lives, while doing it. So, what is the point of losing weight if you lose your life? If that happens, you are the biggest loser!!

A Malaysian Chinese newspaper, Sin Chew Daily reported the case of a 31-year-old sales adviser from Singapore, who almost lost her life when she participated in a television slimming competition to win US$100,000 (RM327,000).

The Singaporean, known only as Teh, said she took part in Biggest Loser Asia because she had difficulty getting pregnant with her 158kg weight.

“During a recording of a run we had to participate in, the medical team found out that my heartbeat reached 235 times per minute after 30 minutes of running, which meant that I could have collapsed and died,” she said.

She was eliminated in the 12th week of the competition when she only managed to lose 42kg.

Biggest loser Asia was inspired by the reality TV shows of the same name in the USA and United Kingdom, which debuted in 2005. The shows captivated millions of people worldwide. Each show centers on overweight contestants, male or female, attempting to lose weight, with the help of professional trainers, to win lucrative cash prize.

There are different variations of the Biggest Loser around the world. Each country has made its own adaptation to the show. However, the contestants have the same goal: to lose the highest percentage of weight to become the Biggest Loser and eventually become the Biggest Winner of the show.

Morale of the story - what is the use of USD$100,000 if you can't bring the money with you in your grave. Look at the late Michael Jackson, billion of dollars of money can't bring him back to life. The same goes to many many cases of Multi-Billionaires around the world who died. They cannot be brought back to life or resurrected to life, no matter ho much money they have in the bank!!

Smokie - one of the greatest band from England, apart from the Beatles

Mention United Kingdom and name the most popular music band groups that originated from Queen Elizabeth's kingdom - and people always say - ohhh it's The Beatles, or Ireland's U2 and Westlife..

But wait.... don't forget "Smokie", the sensational rock band from Bradford, Yorkshire, England.

Smokie really made headlines with their super hits songs in the 1970s.

Their 1976 song "Living Next Door to Alice' became one of the greatest songs in the 1970s.

As well as their 1978 classico - Mexican Girl.

The band has been active since 45 years ago or 1965!!!!!!!

The original members of Smokie in the 1970s are :
Chris Norman (lead singer)
Alan Silson
Pete Spencer
Alan Barton (deceased)
Ron Kelly

And till now in March 2010, back by popular demand, they are still touring the world, adored by millions of fans worldwide.. including me in Malaysia!!!

The current members of Smokie in 2010 are :
Mike Craft
Mick McConnell
Terry Uttley
Steve Pinnell
Martin Bullard

The first single from their 2nd album, "If You Think You Know How to Love Me", released on September 1975 quickly became a big hit in many European countries, peaking at No. 3 in Britain, and won Smokey a wider audience.

Chris Norman distinctive vocal, captivated the world!!! The success came when the world was at the peak of Disco-mania!!!

It was followed by "Don't Play Your Rock'n'Roll to Me".

When their single "Living Next Door to Alice" was released in November 1976, it quickly became the group's biggest hit. Smokie now found themselves European superstars with sold-out tours and million-selling albums.

The worldwide success of Living Next Door to Alice was followed by the equally successful "Lay Back in the Arms of Someone".

Another Smokie classic - Mexican Girl - released in 1978

Smokie version of CCR's Have You Ever Seen the Rain

Sorry Guys, Amber Chia is married!!!

Guys.... stop your dreams of winning over Amber Chia. The top and super sexy Malaysian supermodel is married to her ‘true love’ businessman in Bali, Indonesia, recently.

According to the Daily Chilli website, it was confirmed by Amber's confidante that the 28-year-old hot lass has said “I do” to her long-time friend-turned-boyfriend.

No, he is not the married businessman that she was once maliciously accused of dating. Or the old banker Tan Sri that she was rumoured to be seeing.

“Amber believes in true love,” said the source.

“She doesn’t believe that money can buy her love.

“This guy - who is just a regular businessman is genuinely nice and he really loves her for who she is.

“They’ve known each other for a long, long time. He’s a very shy guy.”

Their top secret union was solemnised in Bali last Thursday.

“It was a romantic beach wedding,” revealed the insider.

Among Amber’s most trusted celebrity friends who flew in to Bali to witness the super private wedding were TV personality Daphne Iking, violinist Dennis Lau and catwalk guru, Benjamin Toong, the website said.

The East-meet-West ceremony was also witnessed by close family members from both sides, who were flown to the Indonesian island by the couple.

When contacted via SMS, a discreet Amber, who is back in Malaysia and will fly overseas for her honeymoon in an undisclosed location soon, had only got this to say:

“Sorry dear.. Don’t worry.. we’ll talk when I come back from my honeymoon.”

Barack Obama signs $938 billion health bill into law

Obama signing the $938 billion dollar bill!!!!! My Gosh - $938 Billion!!! No wonder the Republicans refused to support the healthcare bill... It is indeed very very costly Mr Obama!!!

United States of America President Barack Obama has signed his landmark healthcare bill into law in a ceremony at the White House, on March 23rd, 2010.

The new law will eventually extend health insurance cover to about 32 million Americans who currently do not have any.

Mr Obama said he was signing the bill for people like his mother "who argued with insurance companies even as she battled cancer in her final days".

The bill is strongly opposed by the Republicans, who say it is too costly.

“ The bill I'm signing will set in motion reforms that generations of Americans have fought for and marched for and hungered to see ”
President Barack Obama

Immediately after the signing, attorneys general from 13 states - 12 Republicans and one Democrat - began legal proceedings against the federal government seeking to stop the reforms on the grounds that they are unconstitutional.

Mr Obama was joined at the White House signing ceremony by healthcare reform supporters including Democrats from both Houses of Congress who supported the measure.

He said the bill's provisions were "desperately needed", adding: "The bill I'm signing will set in motion reforms that generations of Americans have fought for and marched for and hungered to see."

He hailed the "historic leadership and uncommon courage" of the Democratic leadership in Congress that secured the bill's passage, singling out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for particular praise.

“ The Democrats feel a new optimism with a solid victory under their belt. They feel they've proved that they can govern, can make a difference ”
Mark Mardell, BBC North America editor

He concluded: "Today after almost a century of trial, today after over a year of debate, today after all the votes have been tallied, health insurance reform becomes law in the United States of America. Today.

"All of the overheated rhetoric over reform will finally confront the reality of reform."

Mr Obama now has to sell the reforms to a divided American public before November's mid-term elections.

On Thursday, he will go to the state of Iowa to talk about how the new law will help to lower healthcare costs for small businesses and families.

KEY HEALTHCARE REFORMS

Cost: $940bn over 10 years; would reduce deficit by $143bn
Coverage: Expanded to 32m currently uninsured Americans
Medicare: Prescription drug coverage gap closed; affected over-65s receive rebate and discount on brand name drugs
Medicaid: Expanded to include families under 65 with gross income of up to 133% of federal poverty level and childless adults
Insurance reforms: Insurers can no longer deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions
Insurance exchanges: Uninsured and self-employed able to purchase insurance through state-based exchanges
Subsidies: Low-income individuals and families wanting to purchase own health insurance eligible for subsidies
Individual Mandate: Those not covered by Medicaid or Medicare must be insured or face fine
High-cost insurance: Employers offering workers pricier plans subject to tax on excess premium

After a heated debate, the House of Representatives voted 219-212 late on Sunday to send the 10-year, $938billion bill to Mr Obama. Not one Republican voted for the bill, and some Democrats also voted against it.

The measure, which the Senate passed in December, is expected to expand health insurance coverage to about 95% of eligible Americans, compared with the 83% covered today.

It will ban insurance company practices such as denying coverage to people with existing medical problems.

Correspondents say the bill represents the biggest expansion of the federal government's social safety net since President Lyndon Johnson enacted the Medicare and Medicaid government-funded healthcare programmes for the elderly and poor in the 1960s.

Mr Obama's campaign to overhaul US healthcare seemed stalled in January, when a Republican won a special election to fill the late Edward Kennedy's Massachusetts Senate seat, and with it, enough Republican votes to prevent the bill from coming to a final vote in the Senate.

But Democrats came up with a plan that required the House to approve the Senate-passed measure - despite its opposition to many of its provisions - and then have both chambers pass a measure incorporating numerous changes after the president signed it into law.

Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek - Amazing comeback

2 years ago, on 2nd January 2008, Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek was forced to resign in disgrace as Malaysian Health Minister as well as MCA vice president after lewd VCDs purpotedly showing him and a young woman, making love in a hotel room, were widely distributed.

Dr Chua also did not defend his Labis Parliamentary Constituency at the March 2008 general election.

When everybody thought Dr Chua Soi Lek career was eternally gone, he instead made an amazing comeback today, Sunday, 28th March 2010, by winning the MCA Presidency in a 3cornered fight. The famous victory is seen as sweeter for him and his supporters because Dr Chua defeated the incumbent MCA President, Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat who is also the Malaysian Transport Minister.

Ong Tee Keat was the person who sacked Chua Soi Lek who was then MCA Deputy President, last year.

MCA is regarded as the 2nd biggest component party of the ruling Barisan Nasional, BN coalition. The BN government has ruled Malaysia since independence in 1957.

Therefore, the MCA President is the 3rd most powerful man in Malaysia behind the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister, both from UMNO - the biggest BN component party.

In the 3 cornered fight, Ong Tee Keat only managed to garner 578 votes to finish third and last. In 2nd place and 225 votes higher than Ong Tee Keat was another former MCA President, Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting who received 833 votes. Chua Soi Lek was the man of the moment, polling the highest number of votes - 901 votes.

Contest for the MCA Presidency, March 28, 2010 (Sunday - Kuala Lumpur)
1. Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek - 901 votes
2. Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting - 833 votes (former MCA President)
3. Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat - 578 votes. (incumbent MCA President)

Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (Left) and Dr Chua Soi Lek celebrating their victories.

For the post of MCA no.2 or Deputy President, Health Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai won over Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha. Liow received 1,171 votes to Kong Cho Ha’s 1,106 votes.

Meanwhile the 64 year old but youthful looking Tourism Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen garnered the highest number of votes (1528 votes) to be re-elected as MCA Vice President. Ng Yen Yen was the sole woman candidate for the post. 3 other Vice Presidents elected are Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai (1469 votes), Datuk Chor Chee Heung (1202 votes ) and a newcomer Gan Ping Sieu who polled similar 1202 votes.

The MCA elections results mean only 3 things - the imminent reshuffling of federal cabinet ministers portfolios, the amazing comeback by Chua Soi Lek and the fall of Ong Tee Keat.

There will be no more Ong Tee Keat and Kong Cho Ha in the list of Malaysian federal cabinet ministers.

Ong Tee Keat has to vacate his position as Malaysia's Transport Minister. The same goes to Kong Cho Ha who have to relinquish his post as Malaysia's Housing and Local Government Minister.

As the new MCA President, Dr Chua is expected to be appointed as senior minister in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak's cabinet lineup, either as Transport Minister or back to his old portfolio as Health Minister, currently held by his Deputy President, Liow Tiong Lai.

As the new MCA Deputy President, Liow Tiong Lai is 100 % assured of his cabinet post. He can remain as Health Minister or move to the Housing and Local Government ministry, which is expected to be gentlemanly vacated by Kong Cho Ha.

Meanwhile, immediately after the polls results, Dr Chua Soi Lek says he would be “inclusive” and practise collective leadership as the new party president.

However, based on the number of votes received by Chua Soi Lek, the polls result for the MCA Presidency showed that Chua Soi Lek did not get the majority supports of the delegates.

Look, Ong Ka Ting (833 votes) combined with Ong Tee Keat (578 Votes) means 1,411 delegates did not vote for Chua Soi Lek.

Infact Chua Soi Lek 901 votes meant that he only garnered 38.97 % support while 61.03 % supported Ong Ka Ting and Ong Tee Keat combined.

Does this means that there are turbulence ahead for Chua Soi Lek while discharging his duties as the MCA boss to unite and strenghten the party?

However Chua Soi Lek is assured of co-operation from his newly elected MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

Immediately after the party election, Tiong Lai said he is prepared to work with the new MCA president.

Liow said now that the party election was over, it was time to get to work on uniting a fractious MCA.

“I am happy that we have had this election so we can resolve the party crisis,” Liow told reporters upon hearing of the party election results.

Liow said he respected the decision of the delegates in electing Dr Chua president.

“We will work together to unite the party.

“I can work with Dr Chua and I will play my role as deputy president to the best of my ability.

“From now on, let’s work together for the future of the party and ensure it is stable and united,” he said.

Liow said as party leaders, both he and Dr Chua shared the same commitment to serve the rakyat (people) and country.

He denied talk that delegates did not give their votes to former president Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting to make him president to break up their “camp”.

“From the start, there has never been in a ‘team’ or ‘camp’.

“We only worked together as we shared the same ideology and views on how to unite the party but there was no ‘camp’,” he said.

Liow, who is Health Minister, defeated Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha, who was also, like Liow, a vice-president in the previous committee.

How to be USD 62 billion richer - Warren Buffett's style

Hi there.... Warren Buffett is one of the richest man in the world with assets worth US$62 billion dollars!!

He is also the most charitable and noble man in the world - having donated at least US$31 billion to charity!!!!!!

He is now now almost 80 years old.. and if he dies, Buffett will definitely go to heaven...

In 2008 he was ranked by Forbes as the richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of approximately US$62 billion. In 2009, after donating billions of dollars to charity, Buffett was ranked as the second richest man in the United States with a net worth of US$37 billion - hey that means Buffett donated a collosal and whooping US$25 billion in a span of 1 year alone between 2008 and 2009!!

Now only Bill Gates ranked higher than Buffett. Buffett net worth is up to US$47 billion in the past 12 months.

How could that be?? Very seldom do we heard of Billionaires who donated US$25 billion to charity in just one year, to help the poor and destitute, to feed the starving souls, to shelter the homeless and to help cure the sick!!

Hell, the dirty Arabs and Russians billionaires will not even pledge US1 million to help the poor in a million years time!! Instead, they will splash USD 1 billion to refurnish their washrooms, bedrooms, mattresses, chairs, tables and flower pots and their mistresses panties and G-strings with solid gold!! They don't give a damn on those millions of hungry and starving souls and people, all around the planet.

But Warren Buffett does have a very kind heart.

These are his philosophies of life. To those flithy rich but damn stingy Arabs and Russians money spinners - read and learn!!!
