The 1982 World Cup in Spain or better known as Espana 82, produced many unforgettable moments.
One of them is the hammering of El Salvador by the Hungarians by 10 goals to 1.

The 11 goals extravaganza match remains as the highest ever scoring World Cup match in the history of the tournament.
Hungary, hungry for goals, lead 3-0 after the end of the 1st half before pounding the hapless El Salvador team with another 7 goals in the 2nd half.
El Salvador lone goal was scored by Luis Zapata when they were already 0-5 down.
After the match, El Salvador coach Pepe Rodriguez said " I am both happy and sad.. Happy because we scored our first ever goal in this World Cup.. and sad because this defeat was too heavy"!!!!!!!!
However, both Hungary and El Salvador were eliminated in the 1st round as Argentina and Belgium went through to the 2nd round.
The Hungarians were beaten 1-4 by Argentina in their 2nd match and held to a 1-1 draw by Belgium in their 3rd and last match.
As for El Salvador, they salvaged their pride, losing only 0-1 to Belgium and 0-2 to Argentina in their next 2 matches.
