Former Sabah state assembly speaker Datuk Seri Juhar Mahiruddin was sworn in on Saturday, 1st January 2011 as the 10th Sabah governor or Tuan Yang Terutama Yang Di Pertua Negeri Sabah.
Juhar, 57, who succeeded Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah whose two-term has ended, took his oath in front of Chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjum at Istana Negeri, Kota Kinabalu.
Born on Nov 5, 1953, in Kampung Tambisan, Sandakan, Juhar who holds a bachelor's degree in law from the Wolverhampton Polytechnic in England, had served as a first-class magistrate from 1981 to 1982.
Juhar was appointed Sabah state assembly speaker in 2002 and held the position until his recent appointment as the governor.
Present during the historic ceremony were Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman, state cabinet ministers, Federal Ministers from Sabah among them Tan Sri Bernard Dompok and Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili.
Prior to being appointed as Sabah's 10th Governor, Juhar was Speaker of the Sabah state legislative assembly.
He was also the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat between 1990 to 1999, Kinabatangan Member of Parliament (1990-1999) before being succedded by Datuk Bung Moktar Radin and Batu Sapi UMNO Division Head between 2003 to 2008 before being succedded by Datuk Shamsudin Yahya.
