Ketika ini isu hangat di Pulau Pinang ialah pembelian kereta Mercedes Benz S300L oleh kerajaan negeri Penang kepada Ketua Menterinya Lim Guan Eng hanya selepas 2 bulan membeli Camry.. Harga Mercedes itu dikhabarkan hampir RM300,000 berbanding harga asal lebih RM600,000. Guan Eng hanya ada 1 Mercedes... orang dah bising.

Di Sarawak, ketua menterinya Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud menggunakan Rollys Royce ke mana mana sahaja. Rolls Royce lebih mahal dari Mercedes Benz S300L dan Taib Mahmud bukan ada 1 tapi puluhan Rolls Royce. tapi tiada siapa berani bising sebab kereta itu dibeli sendiri oleh Taib Mahmud, bukan gunakan wang kerajaan??

Kalau ada duit, nak beli 1000 kereta pun boleh, ikut suka..

Tapi kalau tak de duit, jangan tunjuk eksyen beb...

Pandelela Rinong, gadis Bidayuh dari Sarawak mencatat sejarah wanita pertama Malaysia menang pingat Sukan Olimpik apabila menang gangsa acara terjun platform 10 meter di sukan Olimpik London pada 10 Ogos 2012. Kejayaan Pandelela menjadi tajuk akhbar utama Malaysia.



George Lipih, rakyat Sarawak dari Sri Aman, diculik lanun Nigeria pada 4 Ogos dan dibebaskan dan tiba di tanah air pada 26 Ogos 2012. Kesengsaraan dan kesyukuran George juga menjadi tajuk utama di Malaysia.

Artikel Skulls and Sago menimbulkan kemarahan masyarakat Sarawak

Artikel of Skulls and Sago tulisan Henry Ng, yang pernah diterbitkan dalam buku Asian Beacon, pernah menaikkan kemarahan masyarakat Iban di Sarawak kerana penulisnya mempersoalkan cara hidup kaum itu, termasuk memakan semut goreng dan lintah!!

Kaum Iban juga dilaporkan menggunakan garam ke makanan terbuang, supaya boleh dimakan kembali.

Hmm.. Buku itu sudah meminta maaf.

Saya tidak terkejut jika penulis buku itu turut mempersoalkan kaum lain di Malaysia.


Sebagai contoh saya sendiri pernah makan ulat Sago.

Sebenarnya Ulat Sago itu amat berkahsiat dengan protein dan vitamin lain jika dimakan hidup hidup atau dimasak secara dibakar terlebih dahulu.

Amat enak, saya sendiri pernah merasa keenakannya.

Maka itu saya cadangkan penulis buku of Skulls and Sago memakan sendiri ulat Sago itu baru dia merasai keenakannya dan tidak menulis yang bukan bukan lagi.

Difahamkan penulis itu sudah meminta maaf, namun bak kata pepatah, TERLAJAK PERAHU BOLEH DIUNDUR, TERLAJAK KATA BURUH PADAHNYA.

Strange noise heard from the sky of Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, January 11-12, 2012

KOTA SAMARAHAN, Sarawak, East Malaysia :

This is eerie and frightening.

Unexplained chilling sounds, which filled the air of Samarahan in the wee hours of January 11 and 12, 2012 have residents there puzzled and perturbed until today.

One of the theories being thrown into the pan is that it could be a by-product of the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Programme (HAARP) undertaken by the United States, while others believed it were from processing machines hard at work at an oil palm factory owned by Felcra in Kampung Endap.

But the fact remains that until today the mysterious sounds, which some say resembled loud snoring sounds, remain veiled.

Teacher Mohd Ferdauz Jemain, who lives at Kampung Meranek, was one of those who heard the unexplained phenomenon on Jan 11.

“It was around 2 am when I was awoken by a strange sound. It was a loud hushing sound, and quite similar to someone snoring.

“I immediately got out of bed and went outside of my house to see what was happening. The feeling was a chilling one. I could not establish where the sound was coming from … it was as if something coming from the sky.

“Frightened, I quickly dashed inside, but stayed awake till daylight as I would not sleep any longer. If I am not mistaken, the sound persisted until about 5am.”

To prove that he was not spinning a tale, Ferdauz said he had recorded the phenomenon on his mobile phone, and he played it for thesundaypost reporter yesterday.

He added that the matter became a hot topic of discussion in Samarahan that day, and
some of the residents even documented their experience on Facebook.

“Villagers in Meranek, Pinang, Sindang, Tambirat and even those living at Desa Ilmu housing estate have also heard those eerie sounds.”

Several residents suggested that it could have come from the oil palm factory in Kampung Endap, but resident Harith Amin, who had worked at that factory previously, brushed it off as nonsense.

“The factory has been there for the last eight years, and I am sure it was not sounds produced by the machines there. In addition to that, no oil palm processing machines could produce sounds which could be heard 8km away,” said Harith, who also made a recording of what he had witnessed.

To verify Harith’s theory, Ferdauz decided that should the phenomenon occur again the next day, he would make a dash for the factory.

Ferdauz: “I worked at a school in Sebuyau, so I wake up very early to go to school. True enough, the strange sounds happened the next day, and I quickly made a stop in front of the factory. No sounds came out from there (factory).”

Ferdauz claimed that he also saw strange pattern in the skies in the early morning of January 12, 2012.

“The clouds appeared to be in straight lines, and well formed. I have never seen anything like it, but whatever it is, I am sure there must be a scientific explanation for it.

“But later that day, an earthquake hit Sumatera in neighbouring Indonesia with a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale. I am not sure whether both incidents are related in some ways.”

The incidents only occurred for two nights – Jan 11 and 12.

Meanwhile, Kampung Meranek’s JKKK chairperson Mahmud Pawi, who claimed that he also heard the sounds together with his family, said hoped that the authorities concerned could shed light on the matter.

“When I woke up that morning (Jan 11), I had goose bumps just listening to the sounds. I quickly woke up my entire family and we sat at the veranda trying to figure out what it was and where it was coming from.

“We hope that someone can step forward and enlighten us with an explanation.”

Keunikan pesta Benak di Sungai Batang Lupar, Sarawak

Pesta Benak atau Tidal Bore adalah satu acara tahunan berupa karnival di Sri Aman, Sarawak.

Pesta itu pada mulanya hanya disambut oleh penduduk tempatan Sarawak.

Namun kini sudah masuk ke dalam kalendar pelancongan Sarawak dan diketahui dunia, sekaligus turut dikunjungi pelancong Asing.

Benak ini terbentuk akibat fenomena alam dan membentuk seakan tsunami sungai yang sungguh unik.

Sehinggakan peluncur laut boleh meluncur atas ombak benak yang terbentuk.






Malahan juga bot dan sampan juga boleh meluncur sama.

Kebiasaannya ombak benak ini akan terbentuk sepanjang sungai Batang Lupar sejauh 30 kilometer sebelum berakhir di pekan Engkelili, Sri Aman.

Apalagi berkunjunglah ke Sarawak.

Tidal bore or locally known as "Benak", occurs every year with different wavelengths and heights in the Sarawak river in East Malaysia.

It is like a mini Tsunami, but it happens in the river, not in the sea! Magical!

During spring tide, tidal bores with high magnitude can be observed clearly.

The 'benak' continues its journey another 30 km inland, ending near the small town of Engkilili in Sri Aman.

The ‘Pesta Benak’ is to promote harmony among local community and to introduce Sri Aman town through eco tourism.

Foreign woman strolls naked around town in Sarawak, Malaysia

This is not the woman in the news, but only a supporting picture. Thanks

Residents in Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia were shocked when a 25-year-old foreign woman walked nonchalantly in public without a stitch of clothing on her body, Sin Chew Daily reported on 18th July 2011.

The daily said the woman took off her clothes in front of a nightclub before walking naked on the streets at 8am on Saturday, 16th July 2011.

The woman walked slowly as though she was parading on the catwalk and also “danced” in front of a car.

The newspaper said some people took pictures of her with their handphones.

The woman became emotional when a group of men apprehended her and tried to put clothing on her.

She was later taken to the Miri police station, where the police asked her relatives to take her home.

Her nationality is unknown wether she is Chinese, Indian, Filipino or Indonesian.

Why did she do that? Is she beautiful? We don't know. But something is wrong somewhere.

Taib Mahmud surprise today, Wednesday 22 June 2011

The whole of Malaysia is eagerly awaiting Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, surprise announcement today Wednesday 22 June 2011.

Taib, the longest serving Chief Minister in the history of Malaysia is the subject of a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation.

Asked to comment on the probe after the opening of the 17th Sarawak state legislative assembly on Tuesday 21st June 2011, Taib said: “I will have an official statement tomorrow. They are barking up the wrong tree.”

With a big smile, he added: “You will have a surprise tomorrow.” MACC is probing into Taib for alleged abuse of power in his position as chief minister.

MACC commissioner Datuk Seri Abu Kassim Mohamed said last week that it was investigating Taib over allegations of timber corr uption.

Taib did not offer clues on a possible state cabinet reshuffle, including the vacant post of deputy chief minister.

At the state assembly on Tuesday, 21st June 2011, Parti Rakyat Sarawak, PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Masing was seated next to Taib and Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu.

This sparked speculation that Masing, whose party won eight seats as opposed to Sarawak United Peoples’ Party’s SUPP six, might be made the new deputy chief minister.

Taib said: “This is just speculation. I have not thought of all these things.

Do we have one DCM or three or four DCMs? I don’t know yet.” He added: “I am a bit worried about how I can give the Chinese the chance to express themselves in a more natural way.

“This is very important because I want Sarawak to always remain a multiracial state.

“We are determined to keep it like that because there is no race in the state with a simple majority.

“The only way to have a working democracy is to have consensus among all sections of the community.” “This time, the appointment of a new cabinet is a bit difficult because SUPP didn’t obtain more seats. ” He said he would consult Barisan Nasional parties on whether SUPP should retain the DCM’s post.

Aftermath of the April 16th, 2011 Sarawak election, : Sabah is different says Sabah BN Leaders

The 10th Sarawak election held on 16th April 2011 showed that the majority of the Chinese voters, voted for the oppositions, and they did not give a damn on the ruling coalition, the mighty Barisan Nasional, BN.

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and the long serving Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud, tried their best campaigning for the BN in the urban areas where the Chinese community dominates the number of voters.





However, how hard they tried, the Chinese voters had made up their mind.

No matter how much they announced to the tune of hundreds of millions of ringgits of special allocation to the Chinese community, Chinese schools and Chinese Chambers of Commerces, the Sarawakians Chinese voters won't budge.





They still chose the rocket (DAP) symbol, rather than the Dacing (BN) symbol.

The end result > BN won 55 out of 71 seats, The opposition won 16 seats in which the DAP won 12 seats, Parti Keadilan Rakyat 3 seats and an Independent candidate won 1 seat.

In the previous Sarawak state election in 2006, Taib Mahmud's BN won 62 seats and only lost 9 seats.

BN's popular votes also decreases from 65 % to 55 %.

Why did they do that??

One things is a sign of protest to the 30 years old reign of Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud as Chief Minister of Sarawak.

The other was the professionally and wonderfully done DAP campaign strategies.

The DAP slogan was "CHANGE" or UBAH in Malay.





The BN slogan was continous prosperity through development for all Sarawakians, regardless of races, religions and areas including in remote settlements.

In the end, the DAP won 12 out of 15 seats they contested while the Sarawak United People's Party, SUPP, a BN component party, fared miserably, losing 13 out of 16 seats!!!



Their biggest casualty is none other than the SUPP President himself, Tan Sri Dr George Chan who was undefeated in 6 succesive elections, but this time, he bowed tamely to an uknown DAP rookie and first-timer!!!

I wonder what will happen had DAP contested in all 71 seats in Sarawak???

Meanwhile Taib Mahmud's Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Sarawak, PBB regained their supremacy, winning all 35 seats that they contested including Taib who retained his seat in Balingian.

The 100% win echoes PBB's similar feat in the 2006 election.

After the Sarawak election, what did their BN counterparts in neighbouring Sabah have to say??

A Sabah BN leader said the BN should accept the decision by the people in Sarawak in the recent State election, especially in urban areas.



Gerakan Vice-President Datuk Raymond Tan said it was more important to find out why the Chinese in urban areas decided to vote for the opposition.

"They were very, very well prepared, what to say and what picture to put up. They planned everything. They did very well, were organised and very detailed," he said on Tuesday, 19 April 2011.

However, the peninsula-based Gerakan believes the "winds of change" as demonstrated by the Chinese community there would not blow over to Sabah.

"The party (Gerakan) had learnt well about what had transpired in Sarawak and, thus, will prepare for the general election that is expected to be held soon.

"When the time comes for Sabah, we will know what to do," Tan said.

During his trips to Sarawak, Tan said he found that the people there understood the scenario not just in Sarawak but also issues and challenges in the country, especially in urban areas.

The people are more open-minded to issues both in the state and also nationwide. Hence, Sabah must learn about what transpired in its neighbouring State, he said.

"This is something that we and I need to be aware of and learn from in order for us to prepare ourselves in the direction that we are going," he said.

Tan, who is also State Industrial Development Minister-cum-Tanjong Papat Assemblyman, said doing the routine during campaigning such as putting up posters, giving ceramah (public rally) and shaking hands with the constituents was not enough.

"They could not claim that are already popular after doing all these.

Each campaign process is different and they learn new things from it, he said, adding the Sarawak general election was no exception."

People in the State, particularly in urban areas, he said, would draw comparisons to the scenario that took place in Sarawak.

"So, if the people in Sarawak were discontented or unhappy with certain things there and the Government was not doing anything about it, and we face a similar situation, then we would probably end up in the same way," he said.

Thus, the party needs to be focused, he said, adding if certain things were raised by the people and not enough was done to address these, Sabah would probably face a similar fate.

From his observation, he said many people especially in Sarawak's urban areas are unhappy, discontented and also frustrated over some issues.

Certain things that the Government should have settled, he said, failed to be resolved.

However, Tan said the situation was not only faced by certain communities but felt across the board. It applied to the Chinese, Ibans and also Malays, he said, adding that it was not only confined to the Chinese.

It is for this reason that the opposition influence had spread from urban areas to rural areas.

"So, the Prime Minister was right in querying whether we are really in touch with the people and that if you are in touch with the people and know how to address their needs, you will get their support," he said.

He said that as leaders they could not just assume that the people would be contented after providing them with the necessities.

"You could have done it but they would still be unhappy.

So, it is important that whatever you do, it touches them or that it gets to them," he said.

Meanwhile a leader from the Liberal Democratic Party, LDP thinks otherwise, saying the BN is not fully aware of the needs of the people especially the Chinese community.



The controversial LDP Deputy President Datuk Chin Su Phin said despite retaining the two-third majority, Sarawak BN saw its votes dropping to 55 per cent from 65pc in the previous state election.

"This means almost half the popular votes went to the opposition," he said.

"In the Chinese majority seats, about 80 per cent of the votes went to the opposition, particularly DAP which won 12 of the 15 seats that are concentrated in the urban areas. Even Parti Keadilan Rakyat won three seats of which one is a predominantly Dayak area," he said.

According to Chin, Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud should thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as well as the entire Federal Cabinet who went all out campaigning for the BN during the election.

"It was the first time we saw both the PM and DPM campaign together for one week. If not for the two leaders the result would have been different and the BN might have failed to get a two-third majority," he said.

On the defeat of SUPP President Tan Sri George Chan, he said the people there wanted Taib to step down as Chief Minister.

"As a result, SUPP became the victim. Had the issue been settled before the election, SUPP would not have lost heavily," he said.

He claimed the same leadership issue was adversely affecting the Sabah BN coalition and that the Prime Minister should be brave enough to effect changes in the BN leadership in the two states.

Chin claimed the Sabah BN leadership exploited powers and influence to gain the support from the Chinese chambers of commerce and religious bodies.

"It was sad that certain leaders from the Chinese chambers of commerce and religious bodies were involved in politics as well as issuing political statements to the media for their own agenda," he said.

"The Prime Minister should re-look the situation in Sabah and change the State BN leadership as soon as possible and not wait until the next general election. We believe Sabah Umno have adequate leaders from their own ranks to take over and effect the changes," he said.

"Apart from the Chinese, many from the other communities are also unhappy with the present State BN leadership. We all see the problems in Sabah and I hope other BN component parties are brave enough to speak up," he said.

"In the 2008 general election, Gerakan almost lost all the seats it contested due to the political tsunami and today, SUPP was dealt the same fate, so there is a great urgency to resolve the pressing BN leadership issue in Sabah before the next general election comes," he said.

He said the Chinese community in Sabah is not anti-BN government and in fact appreciated the government contributions including the allocation of financial grants to schools and religious bodies.

"I believe the issues such as concerning the Bible and the illegal immigrants are not the reason for the people to vote the opposition in Sabah and Sarawak. The main reason is that they have lost confidence in the BN leadership of the State.

"Another issue is the Chinese dislike for certain BN leaders who always raise sensitive issues in Parliament and to the media," he said, adding that he agreed with Umno Youth Chief, Khairy Jamaludin that "what we are facing now is the problem of leadership".

"The LDP will bring up issues affecting the BN and the people of Sabah in the next BN supreme council meeting," said Chin.

Pilihanraya Sarawak, apa saja boleh berlaku

16 April 2011 ini bersamaan hari Sabtu, pilihanraya negeri Sarawak kali ke 10 diadakan selepas Dewan undangan negeri Sarawak dibubarkan pada 21 Mac 2011.

71 kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri, DUN menjadi rebutan.

Pada pilihanraya negeri ke 9 pada 2006, Barisan Nasional, BN memenangi 62 kerusi DUN dan hanya tewas di 9 kerusi DUN.



Ketika ini, teka teki siapa calon sedang hangat diperkatakan.

Namun, beberapa pembayang sudah diberi.

Bagi Ketua Menteri Sarawak yang berkhidmat sejak 1981, Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yang juga presiden Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu, PBB, kira-kira 25 peratus daripada calon PBB yang akan diketengahkan pada pilihan raya negeri 16 April ini adalah calon muka baru, katanya.

Taib yang kini berusia 74 tahun dan menjadi Ketua Menteri paling lama berkhidmat di Malaysia sejak 1981 menggantikan Tun Abdul Rahman Ya'kub berkata, beliau akan mengadakan pertemuan dengan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak berhubung senarai PBB, selain bagi tiga lagi parti komponen Barisan Nasional (BN) negeri.

"Ya, saya telah pun memuktamadkan senarai bagi PBB,” katanya kepada media di Kuching pada Rabu 30 Mac 2011.

Taib yang juga pengerusi BN Sarawak juga berkata kesemua empat parti komponen BN telah pun memuktamadkan senarai calon mereka.

Daripada 71 kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri itu, PBB akan bertanding bagi 35 kerusi, Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) (19), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) (sembilan) dan Parti Progresif Demokratik Sarawak (SPDP) (lapan).

Manakala 10 penyandang daripada PBB tidak akan mempertahankan kerusi masing-masing dalam pilihan raya negeri.

Identiti 6 daripada mereka sudah diketahui iaitu Frederick Bayoi Manggi (Kedup), Lihan Jok (Telang Usan), Datuk Dr Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen (Demak Laut), Dr Wahbi Junaidi (Saribas), Wan Wahab Wan Sanusi (Sadong Jaya) dan terbaru, Simoi Peri (Lingga), telah mengumumkan hasrat mereka tidak bertanding.



Tan Sri Taib Mahmud juga mengesahkan beliau akan mempertahankan kerusi DUN Balingian, sekaligus mengesahkan spekulasi beliau akan terus memimpin Sarawak selaku Ketua Menteri untuk sekurang kurangnya 1 penggal lagi.



Namun dalam pilihanraya, apa saja boleh berlaku termasuk perkara yang dianggap mustahil. Ini semuanya bergantung kepada kehendak rakyat sebagai pengundi. Jika rakyat marahkan kerajaan sedia ada, maka mereka umpama bom jangka, sedia meledak bila tiba masanya.



Tentu kita masih ingat pilihanraya Sabah pada 1985 apabila parti Berjaya pimpinan Datuk Harris Mohd Salleh, secara tiba tiba tewas kepada parti yang baru berusia setahun jagung iaitu Parti Bersatu Sabah, PBS pimpinan Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

Harris dan Pairin asalnya sama sama dalam Berjaya, namun akibat perselisihan tertentu, Pairin keluar dari Berjaya lalu menubuhkan PBS.

Berang dengan tindakan itu, Harris menarik balik status Tambunan sebagai daerah. Tambunan adalah daerah kelahiran Pairin. Rakyat Tambunan yang berang memilih Pairin ketika itu calon Bebas mengalahkan Calon Berjaya pada pilihanraya kecil Tambunan, sejurus selepas Pairin disingkirkan dari Berjaya.



Dibantu kemarahan rakyat Sabah ke atas kerajaan Berjaya ketika itu, Pairin seterusnya memimpin PBS menewaskan Berjaya pada pilihanraya negeri 1985.

Malahan Datuk Harris sendiri tewas di Tenom kepada seorang calon PBS yang kurang dikenali iaitu Datuk Kadoh Agundong yang sehingga kini digelar The Giant Killer.

Peristiwa itu masih tidak dilupakan dalam sejarah politik Sabah sehingga kini.



Dalam politik juga, apa apa juga boleh berlaku. Sebagai contoh ketika Pilihanraya kecil Batu Sapi di Sandakan, Sabah pada 4 November 2010 lalu, seorang calon muka baru dari BN yang juga wanita, Datin Linda Tsen Thau Lin (kanan) gambar atas, berjaya mengalahkan 2 political heavyweights atau gergasi politik iaitu Datuk Yong Teck Lee, dari Parti Maju Sabah, SAPP dan Ansari Abdullah dari Parti Keadilan Rakyat, PKR.





BN berjaya mengekalkan kerusi Parlimen Batu Sapi dengan majoriti besar, 6,359 undi, walaupun terpaksa berdepan dengan Yong Teck Lee yang juga bekas Ketua Menteri Sabah dan Presiden SAPP serta tidak pernah tewas dalam 9 pilihanraya berturut turut sejak 1985.

Calon BN, Datin Linda Tsen Thau Lin memperoleh 9,773 undi mengalahkan calon SAPP, Datuk Yong Teck Lee 2,031 undi dan calon Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Ansaari Abdullah 3,414 undi.



Ini kekalahan pertama Yong Teck Lee dalam sejarah politiknya. Meskipun ligat berkempen termasuk melaungkan frasa Sabah for Sabahans atau Sabah untuk Rakyat Sabah, serta kuasa autonomi untuk Sabah Yong tewas juga.

Untuk rekod, konsep Sabah for Sabahans dan Autonomi ini pernah dilaungkan PBS dan mendapat sambutan rakyat Sabah suatu ketika dulu.

Namun angin perubahan dibawa kepimpinan Datuk Seri Najib Razak menerusi konsep 1 Malaysia, rakyat didahulukan pencapaian diutamakan, lebih digemari pengundi Batu Sapi.

S.K Ulu Lubai, Limbang, Sarawak - Permata dalam Belantara

17 Februari 2011 menjadi detik bersejarah bagi sebuah sekolah pedalaman di Limbang, Sarawak apabila dikunjungi pemimpin nombor dua negara - Timbalan Perdana Menteri merangkap menteri Pelajaran, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Mengapa Timbalan Perdana Menteri melawat sekolah berkenaan iaitu Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Lubai, nun jauh di Limbang, Sarawak??

Sekali imbas, SK Ulu Lubai hanyalah sebuah sekolah yang serba sederhana dari segi infrastruktur dengan bangunan kayu lama manakala satu-satunya binaan konkrit hanyalah tandas kegunaan murid dan guru.

Lokasinya terletak di tengah-tengah hutan belantara. Ia dihubungkan melalui jalan balak ataupun menggunakan bot panjang menyusuri Sungai Lubai yang membabitkan tempoh perjalanan kira-kira sejam daripada Medamit.

Sekolah yang dibuka pada 1964 dan pernah ditutup pada 1976 sebelum dibuka semula setahun selepas itu hanya mempunyai 30 orang murid yang dibimbing oleh 11 orang guru dengan bantuan seorang staf sokongan.

Namun hari ini, SK Ulu Lubai mencatatkan sejarah gemilang apabila muncul sebagai sekolah pedalaman pertama yang diiktiraf sebagai Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi (SBT) sekali gus memberi tamparan kepada sekolah lain yang berada di kawasan bandar mahupun luar bandar.

Menyifatkannya sebagai amat luar biasa, Muhyiddin yang juga Menteri Pelajaran berkata, kejayaan SK Ulu Lubai itu membuktikan bahawa semua sekolah mampu cemerlang tanpa mengira lokasinya.

"Kalau kita lihat persekitaran dan infrastruktur, ia amat sederhana, bangunannya sudah lama dan diperbuat daripada kayu, tidaklah seelok bangunan-bangunan konkrit di sesetengah sekolah.

"Tetapi kerana kepimpinan sekolah itu adalah cemerlang dan guru-guru serta ibu bapa bersama murid-murid amat komited untuk bantu membangunkan sekolah ini, berlaku lonjakan yang amat besar," katanya pada sidang akhbar selepas mengumumkan senarai 23 SBT Kohort Dua di SK Ulu Lubai di sini hari ini.

Muhyiddin juga melontarkan cabaran kepada sekolah-sekolah lain dengan berkata:

"Jika SK Ulu Lubai yang begini keadaannya boleh muncul yang terbaik, saya tidak fikir sekolah lain tidak mampu."

Terdahulu ketika berucap pada majlis berkenaan, Muhyiddin berkata, SK Ulu Lubai telah menunjukkan pencapaian akademik yang amat cemerlang dalam Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) dengan keputusan 100 peratus lulus sejak 2006 sehingga sekarang, menjadikannya sebagai sekolah terbaik di negeri ini.

Katanya, dalam penarafan sekolah kebangsaan, SK Ulu Lubai menduduki tempat ke-54 pada 2009 dan ia melonjak ke tempat pertama pada 2010.

Beliau memberitahu, lebih membanggakan, sekolah itu memenangi dua anugerah peringkat antarabangsa iaitu johan Commonwealth Education Good Practice Award 2009 dan finalis anugerah yang sama daripada Sekretariat Komanwel dan Kerajaan Malaysia.

Menurutnya, pencapaian terkini ialah pencalonan UNESCO Educational International Best Practices 2010.

"Di samping itu, ia juga berjaya merangkul lima anugerah peringkat kebangsaan, 14 di peringkat negeri dan 46 di peringkat bahagian dan daerah," katanya.

Dalam pada itu, Muhyiddin begitu teruja dengan inisiatif SK Ulu Lubai yang bergerak aktif dalam mewujudkan program jalinan dan jaringan dengan institusi pendidikan luar negara.

Katanya, jaringan itu bukan calang-calang kerana pada 2009 dan 2010, mereka mewujudkan jaringan dengan University Bristol, United Kingdom (UK), Jin Shan Primary School, Singapura dan Kingsford Community School serta Deptford Green School, masing-masing di UK.

Sementara itu, Guru Besar SK Ulu Lubai sejak 1998, Jaul Bunyau berkata, kunci kepada kejayaan sekolah itu ialah kerjasama daripada ibu-bapa kerana merekalah yang paling dekat dengan sekolah berkenaan,

Katanya, mengharapkan orang luar untuk membantu sekolah di pedalaman seperti SK Ulu Lubai amat sukar kerana keadaannya terpencil manakala prasarananya amat terhad.

"Jadi kita kena libatkan komuniti setempat dan guru-guru pula tidak boleh terpisah dengan masyarakat," katanya.

Sementara itu, Muhyiddin turut meluang masa melawat Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tutoh Apoh di Long Panai, Baram yang 12 hingga 18 kali ditenggelami banjir dalam masa setahun kerana terletak bersebelahan Sungai Apoh.

Sekolah berkenaan pada awal tahun lalu pernah mendapat perhatian beliau yang kemudian mengumumkan peruntukan RM50 juta untuk pembinaan bangunan baru di tempat lebih tinggi.

Muhyiddin sewaktu berucap dalam majlis bersama penghuni rumah Panjang Uma Beluvuh bersebelahan SMK Tutoh Apoh menjelaskan bangunan baru sekolah itu akan dibina dalam masa terdekat dan ia dijangka mengambil masa kira-kira dua tahun untuk disiapkan.

Beliau menjelaskan, nilai sebenar projek yang kini berada dalam peringkat melantik perunding reka bentuk itu hanyalah RM30 juta.

"Kita juga sudah membayar ganti rugi pengambilan balik tanah membabitkan keluasan 12 hektar," katanya.

Dalam pada itu, beliau turut mengumumkan peruntukan RM2,000 bagi setiap 117 pintu Rumah Panjang Uma Beluvoh bagi tujuan penyelenggaraan kediaman.

Huge Oil reserves found off Sarawak’s coast to boost Government coffers

PETALING JAYA: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas)’s persistency in exploring for the precious commodity within Malaysia has struck gold with major oil and gas reserves discovered off the coast of Sarawak.

Some 100 million barrels of oil and 2.8 trillion standard cubic feet (tscf) of natural gas were discovered from two exploration blocks there.

Spurred by the success, Petronas plans to drill more than 50 exploration wells off Malaysia over the next three years.

“These activities, especially if they result in discoveries, are expected to boost business opportunities in the oil and gas industry and will promote upstream investment in the country,” it said in a press statement yesterday.

A research report said the new oil and gas finds represent 2% of oil reserves and 3% of natural gas reserves.

“These new discoveries underpin our optimism for the industry, as (they) prolong the lifespan of Malaysian reserves – 24 years for crude oil and 38 years for natural gas,” said the report by AmResearch yesterday.

Commenting on the latest find, Petronas said 2.6 tscf of natural gas was struck after drilling almost 4km below sea level at the NC3 well at the SK316 block.

Over at another block called SK306, some 100 million barrels of oil reserves and 0.2 tscf of gas were found after drilling extended beyond 3km.

The well at SK306 block, called Spaoh-1, is currently being prepared for production testing.

Production test results had shown that the deposits were technically recoverable, added the statement.

The decision to concentrate on exploration activities in Malaysia rather than overseas was made recently, with Petronas deciding to engage Malaysian companies to help drill for oil at marginal oilfields offshore.

Petronas had found 106 marginal fields containing 580 million barrels of oil, and believed the high price of crude today makes such drilling activity viable.

The recent findings of new oil and gas fields by Petronas offshore Sarawak are expected to boost the country's reserves.

Petronas' total average production for oil and gas has been declining for the past two years to 1.63 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per day in the financial year ended March 31, 2010 (FY10) from 1.67 million BOE per day in FY08.

The 1.63 million BOE per day comprised 535,000 BOE of crude oil, 974,000 BOE of natural gas and the rest condensates.

AmResearch said as Malaysia had 85 trillion cu ft of gas reserves with oil reserves at 5.8 billion barrels in FY10, the new discoveries accounted for 3% of the country's natural gas reserves and 2% of its oil reserves.

Ex-Mr Asia, Bujang Taha loses house in fire

The government of Malaysia and Sarawak and various bodies should lend a helping hand to ease the burden faced by former 2 time Mr Asia, and now 74-year-old Sarawakian ex-bodybuilder, Bujang Taha.


The fire spread so fast, Bujang could only manage to save these prized momentos of his glittering career.



Bujang Taha and his family lost their home in Kampung Tanjung in Petra Jaya near Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia to a fire.

Bujang and family has been living in the house in Kampung Tanjung for the past 46 years.

Bujang Taha, the Mr Asia 1981-1982, and his 86-year-old wife together with the rest of his family members, who were living together in the house, were having lunch during the 2pm incident on Tuesday 8 February 2011.

After lunch, Bujang went upstairs and noticed sparks coming out of the electrical cables which caused the ceiling to catch fire.



Bujang told reporters that the fire spread so fast that he and his family members were only able to escape with their clothes on their backs.

The fire department received a distress call at 2.45pm and by the time two fire engines and 15 firemen from the Petra Jaya and Padungan fire stations arrived at the scene at 2.53pm, the house was destroyed.

Petra Jaya station head Madu Anggut said the fire spread so fast due to the hot weather and the fact that the house was wooden.

He said it was fortunate that nobody was injured.

Bujang put his losses at RM300,000, saying he also lost RM35,000 in cash and jewellery, including his prized trophies.

A nearby house belonging to a neighbour, was also razed.

Bujang Taha represented Sarawak in 1975 in the Mr Malaysia and won the Master category.

In 1980, he was Mr Asean.

Being twice crowned as Mr Asia in 1980 and 1981, was the highlight of his successful career.

All these titles earned him the state award Ahli Bintang Sarawak in 1982.

Bujang was also a gold medallist at the 1975 SEA Games and silver medallist at the 1983 Asian Games.

He won the Sarawak Sportsman Award in 1981 and 1989.

Bujang Taha is the proud father of 10 children, 47 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
