Mendapan Tanah di antara Telupid dan Ranau, jejaskan perhubungan darat Kota Kinabalu ke Sandakan, Lahad Datu dan Tawau

Perjalanan darat antara Kota Kinabalu ke Pantai Timur Sabah, terjejas akibat kejadian mendapan tanah di Kilometer 120 jalan Kota Kinabalu - Sandakan, pada malam Isnin 20 Februari 2012.

Kejadian berpunca hujan lebat.

Mendapan tanah sedalam kira kira 6 meter itu berlaku di kilometer 12, jalan Ranau-Telupid, menyebabkan puluhan kenderaan terjejas.

Kenderaan terpaksa melalui jalan alternatif di kampung berhampiran.

Namun Pengarah JKR Sabah, Datuk John Anthony berkata kerja membina laluan 1 lorong di jalan yang mendap dijangka siap malam ini.

Manakala kedua dua lorong jalanraya berkenaan dijangka siap esok.

Jalan berkenaan adalah laluan utama dari Kota Kinabalu ke bandar utama Pantai Timur Sabah seperti Sandakan, Lahad Datu dan Tawau.

At least about 150m of the road at KM120 was completely washed away, cutting off links between Sabah's west and east coasts.

Sabah Public Works Department director Datuk John Anthony said that by early Tuesday, 21st February 2012, they had managed to build an alternative gravel bypass for vehicles to pass through.

However, the by-pass is only passable for smaller vehicles, he said, adding that lorries and buses could not pass through.

"We are working on the bypass to enable larger vehicles to pass through. We hope to complete it by today," he added.

Penyanyi yang popular pada 70an dan 80-an, Latiff Ibrahim atau nama sebenarnya Abdul Latiff Ibrahim, telah meninggalkan kita.

Allahyarham meninggal dunia di Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) kira-kira jam 6.06 petang, Isnin 20 Februari 2012.

Allahyarham Latiff, 62, yang sebelum ini dimasukkan ke IJN Sabtu 18 Februari 2012 menghembuskan nafas terakhir di Unit Rawatan Koronori (CCU) IJN, dengan anggota keluarga berada di sisi Allahyarham.

Anaknya, Hazriq Latif berkata jenazah bapanya akan dibawa pulang ke rumah Taman Keramat

Jenazah selamat dikebumikan di Tanah Perkuburan Islam AU 3, Keramat, pada Selasa 21 Februari 2012.

Latif Ibrahim, terkenal dengan lagu Nora, Mengharap Kasih Mu dan Mengenang Dikau Kembali.

Latif ialah abang kepada penyanyi, Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim atau lebih dikenali Khaty Ibrahim.

Allahyarham pernah menyuburkan industri filem negara melalui lakonan filem Hapuslah Air Mata Mu (1976), Dendang Perantau (1979), Sumber Ilhamku (1979), Bintang Pujaan (1981) dan Senja Merah (1982).

Allahyarham Latiff Ibrahim seangkatan dengan bintang popular 70an dan 80an seperti Sharifah Aini, Uji Rashid, Hail Amir dan ramai lagi.

Allahyarham pernah menjalani pembedahan pintasan jantung kira-kira 12 tahun lalu.

Semoga roh Allahyarham dicucuri rahmat.

2 beranak maut, tanah runtuh di Kg Terusan, Lahad Datu, Sabah

Gambar di atas menunjukkan lokasi kejadian tanah runtuh di Kampung Terusan, Jalan Silam, Lahad Datu, Sabah yang mengorbankan 2 beranak, iaitu seorang ibu dan anak perempuannya berusia 8 tahun.

Kasihan sungguh, moga roh mangsa dicucuri rahmat.

Kejadian tanah runtuh ini berlaku pada awal pagi Sabtu 18 Februari 2012, kira kira jam 2 pagi akibat hujan lebat 10 jam tanpa henti melanda Lahad Datu.

Ketika tanah runtuh, 7 penghuni rumah sedang nyenyak tidur tanpa menyedari bahaya.

Secara tiba tiba, timbunan lumpur dan batang kelapa sawit, menimbus dan meranapkan rumah didiami keluarga itu yang terletak di lereng bukit.

4 ahli keluarga sempat lari menyelamatkan diri.

Namun 3 terperangkap, apapun, seorang daripadanya dapat diselamatkan penduduk kampung. Mangsa yang diselamatkan penduduk itu dikenali sebagai Masdar Naning, 50. Dia cedera parah dan kini dirawat di Hospital Lahad Datu.

Manakala dua anak lelaki Masdar, Suhardi, 24, dan Mohd Azizul, 14, serta anak perempuannya Mariam, 19, terselamat.

Turut terselamat dalam tragedi itu ialah cucu Masdar, Nurasheema Umaira Abdul Rashid yang berusia empat bulan.

Apapun 2 lagi anggota keluarga dalam rumah itu tidak bernasib baik, mereka gagal menyelamatkan diri dan terperangkap dalam runtuhan.

Bomba dimaklumkan jam 2.53 pagi.

16 anggota bomba dan penyelamat dari Balai Bomba Lahad Datu, Kunak dan Tawau dibantu sebuah jengkaut Majlis Daerah Lahad Datu bertungkus lumus selama lebih 10 jam untuk mencari 2 mangsa.

Ketua Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Lahad Datu, Mohd Apandi Mahmood berkata mangsa pertama, kanak-kanak perempuan yang dikenali sebagai Nisdawati Jamal, dijumpai pasukan mencari dan menyelamat pada 10.55 pagi manakala mangsa kedua, Faridah Jompah, 40, dijumpai 15 minit selepas itu.

Hujan lebat bermula sekitar 9 malam di Lahad Datu, kira kira 5 jam selepas Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak meninggalkan Lahad Datu selepas melawat POIC dan Kg Nala di Tungku untuk pelancaran projek Mini Estet Sejahtera.

Hujan itu menyebabkan banjir di beberapa kampung di Lahad Datu termasuk Kg Sapagaya yang terletak berhampiran sungai Sapagaya dan kampung berhampiran sungai Segama.

Malahan jalan masuk ke Kg Terusan juga dilaporkan dinaiki air setengah meter sehingga menyukarkan kenderaan melaluinya, kecuali kenderaan berat dan pacuan empat roda.

Details are beginning to emerge about Whitney Houston's funeral on Saturday, 18th February 2012, and it looks to be be a touching affair that will celebrate the life of the legendary pop singer.

Citing a family source, People magazine reported on Thursday, 16th February 2012 that Kevin Costner, Houston's co-star in the 1992 blockbuster "The Bodyguard," will attend and deliver a speech (Costner has yet to comment).

The box office movie starred Houston as a megastar who falls for her Secret Service agent, played by Costner -— and remains one of her most beloved films. It also yielded one of her top-selling singles ever, "I will Always Love You." The movie grossed $400 million worldwide.

The singles " I Will Always Love You is one of the best ever song the universe has ever heard, listened, seen and feel.

Other stars paying their respects: Houston's godmother, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Wonder, who are scheduled to perform.

Houston's record producer Clive Davis -— who stood by the singer throughout her career ups and downs -— is also expected to say a few words.

Still no word on whether her estranged ex-husband Bobby Brown will attend.

The private, invitation-only service takes place at the New Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey, where Houston first showed off her signing talents as kids. The church seats about 1,500.

Grammy award-winning gospel singer Marvin Winans (the pastor who married Houston and Bobby Brown in 1992) will deliver the eulogy.

The Rev. Joe A. Carter, pastor at New Hope Baptist Church, said he will officiate the service, which is scheduled to begin at noon. It will likely run 90 minutes.

Fans will be able to view a live stream of the service on the Web.

After the service, Houston will be buried at the Fair View Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, where her father was buried in 2003.

Houston, 48, was found dead February, 11, 2012 in her Beverly Hilton hotel room in the eve of the Grammy Awards, the cause of death has yet to be determined.

Malaysians are good in the art of love-making

Malaysians are more satisfied in bed compared to their neighbours across the Causeway, which is Singapore, according to a report in The Star.

A Durex Sexual Well-Being Global Survey found that Malaysians were also doing well in making their partners happy, with 89% of men and 81% of women saying their partners were good at giving them sexual pleasure.

All was not well in Singapore, according to the survey, with only 54% of men and 62% of women saying their partners were giving them pleasurable sex.

“Singapore is amongst the countries in Asia having the second lowest scores in this area,” Durex said in a statement yesterday.

Nine out of 10 Malaysian women (89%) agreed that sex brought them emotionally closer to their partners.

“The pleasant surprise is that Malaysian men seem to be succeeding in getting in touch with their softer sides, as 88% of Malaysian women say they feel loved during sex,” said Durex.

Reckitt Benckiser Malaysia and Singapore marketing director Nikhilesh Kalra said sexual well-being was a balance of physical, emotional and sociological factors.

The survey, commissioned by Durex, was conducted to gain global consumer insights into sexual attitudes and behaviours.

It was conducted in 36 countries with a total of 29,003 people aged 18 and above between Sept 6 and Oct 3 last year.

The Malaysian results have a base of 506 participants: 241 men and 265 women.

So, go visit Malaysia and not Singapore!! hehehe just joking...

Singaporean women prefer tall men!!

Men, if you are short and fat, then do not try to charm Singaporean women as MOST Singaporean women do not like short men.

According to match-making company Lunch Actually, 70% of single women do not want partners shorter then them.

The women would just turn away and leave if they are matched with men shorter then them during speed-dating events.

The findings were concluded from a survey among 1,895 unmarried people in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The survey also found most men would look for slim girlfriends.

Thirty per cent of the men would dump their partners if they (the women) become fat and 10% of the women would dump their fat boyfriends.

But to me, even fat and short men will be an instant hit among women if money counts!! A short but Millionaire guy is envied by girls in every corner of the world!!

Malaysian Women, Family and Community Development Minister and Barisan Nasional / UMNO Wanita Chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil went to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission, MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Wednesday, 8th February 2012.

The embattled Minister said she had requested to be questioned and investigated over the Natioal Feedlot Centre, NFC issue.

She sent a SMS to The Star to say that she was there voluntarily to put paid to the speculations surrounding the issue.

“Excuse me !! I am here at SPRM willingly. Have requested to be questioned and investigated so that no stone is left unturned. Enuff of wild allegations!” the SMS read.

Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil was seen being greeted by MACC director of investigations Datuk Mustafar Ali on arrival at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 4 pm.

Earlier today, 8th February 2012, Parti Keadilan Rakyat, PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli alleged Shahrizat's family owned 2 more luxury condominiums in Singapore worth RM 34.6 million with bank loans obtained from leveraging the fixed deposit accounts containing part of the RM 250 million loan given by the Government to start up the NFC.



Earlier on Sunday, 5th February 2012, Datuk Seri Shahrizat hit out at her critics by calling one of them a jambu boy (pretty boy).

Calling a certain PKR leader a jambu boy, the Wanita Umno chief said the wing would send him a Wanita Umno baju kurung, as he would look good in it.

“In Perak, I received information that the jambu boy' had been stalking me, trailing my movements over the last three months,'' she said in an event in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the birth of Maulidur Rasul Day babies.

Although Shahrizat did not name the jambu boy, it is understood she was referring to PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli who has been hot on her heels over the NFC controversy.

Shahrizat questioned if the jambu boy was eyeing her post, as the wing's strong machinery could be handy for a certain Prime Minister wannabe.

In an immediate response, Rafizi said he was actually flattered that Shahrizat wanted to send him the baju kurung.

“I will accept the gift graciously and gently place it in a wooden box and wait for an opportune moment to bury it along with Barisan Nasional,” he said.

“Shahrizat has probably resorted to personal attacks because she knows I have more up my sleeve.

“We will spring a surprise on her when she returns to the (Women, Family and Community Development) ministry on Wednesday, 8th February 2012'' he said.

Rafizi said Shahrizat was actually missing the point.

“We ask simple questions whether she was involved in decision-making, as her family is not qualified to take on such a project. The public wants closure.

“But instead, she is trying to make political jokes like calling me jambu. I am not handsome,” he said.

Shahrizat also accused the Opposition of going all out to discredit and weaken her because they feared the strength of the Wanita Umno machinery, which was the strongest in Barisan.

“Even if a person has yet to be proven guilty or not, the Opposition will go all out to twist and spin because it is a do-or-die battle for them.

“They can run me down. But I am answerable to Allah,” she said.

On the salvos fired against her from within the Wanita Umno wing, Shahrizat said a leader would always be in the line of fire.

“But as a lawyer and a former magistrate, I am telling them, you don't find a person guilty until proven,” she said.

On her Wanita Umno predecessor Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, who had asked her to step down over the NFC controversy, Shahrizat said it was against her principles to attack older people.

“I will remain tight-lipped,” she said.

She also denied that she was drawing Umno into the NFC controversy because of her refusal to step down.

“I am not a quitter. I am in politics because I have a vision for Malaysia and Wanita Barisan Nasional.

“All over the world, leaders go through challenging times. There is nothing extraordinary or peculiar about what is happening to me,” she added.

Rafizi said Pakatan Rakyat would push for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the NFC controversy.

He said he would not back off despite being threatened with a lawsuit and being subjected to personal attacks.

I have nothing to hide in the MACC investigations : Datuk Peter Anthony

A 41-year-old local businessman in Kota Kinabalu, has admitted that he is the ‘Datuk’ being quizzed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission but he denied the allegations made against him.

Datuk Peter Anthony, the managing director of Asli Jati Sdn Bhd, denied a newspaper report that he was on the run, saying he was in fact giving his full cooperation to the investigators from MACC.

“I am a Datuk, I am 41 years old and the MACC had come to my office according to the news report that said that I was on the run. I am not on the run as reported,” he said.

“I was in Kuala Lumpur when they (MACC) came to my office (in Kota Kinabalu). My staff informed me and I asked them to give them whatever they needed,” he told a press conference in Kota Kinabalu on 3rd February 2012.

His company was reportedly under investigation over alleged false claims involving a RM43 million contract for mechanical and electrical maintenance work at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

Anthony disclosed that upon his return, he met with the MACC officers who came to his office on Thursday, 2nd February 2012 and Friday 3rd February 2012, and gave them his full cooperation.

He said MACC wanted a technical report on their contract from 2007-2010 which they were in the process of assisting.

“I have nothing to hide as I want to clear my name and that of my company,” he said in reference to a news report on Thursday, 2nd February 2012, which stated that a department director at UMS was also investigated.

Describing the allegations as just rumours, Anthony said it was meant to smear his image as one of the leaders in KDM Malaysia, an NGO entity that strongly supports the Barisan Nasional (BN).

He also clarified that he was just an ordinary member of Umno and not an Umno division deputy chief.

“I do not hold any position in Umno,” he said, adding that his position as the vice president of KDM Malaysia is not in any way connected to Umno.

Anthony said his company had been sincere with all the works carried out in the university, stressing that everything was according to the law and procedures set by the UMS.

“The contract between the company and UMS is a contract that has been agreed upon by both entities. In fact, before the contract was formalised, the university had the rights to scrutinise any mistake or problems in the contract before it was handed over to the company to be sealed,” he said.

Anthony said that from the allegations, it was about changing the bill of quantity and not the price being jacked up or contract worth that had been set by the government.

“We adhere to the project worth set by the Government and (it) has not been changed. Because the contract is a lump-sum basis, the amount should not be more than what has been decided by the Ministry of Finance. Besides, in the contract, there is arbitration that each contract between UMS and Asli Jati is a valid contract,” he said.

Anthony said that any deficiency or excess would be valued at the end of the contract in July, and if there is any extra, the university or the company would return it.

“So, there is no such thing as we have misappropriated government’s money.

“This is not the first time such allegation was made. It had happened three times before. To me the allegations are only rumours. If my company has committed wrongdoing, I would be fully responsible for it,” he said.

Meanwhile, UMS vice-chancellor Datuk Kamaruzaman Ampon has dismissed as false the news reports that MACC officers raided the UMS campus.

He had instructed the UMS internal audit division to seek MACC’s services to conduct the probe after suspecting abuse of authority and corruption in the administrative management, he said in a statement.

After several series of auditing and investigation, the university’s Internal Audit Division discovered a few suspicious administration management which involved abuse of power and corruption.

In line with the government’s effort to curb corruption, the UMS Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Kamaruzaman Ampon has directed for the case to be reported to MACC for further investigation.

“The media report stating that UMS was ambushed by MACC officers was untrue as the case was referred to the department for investigation,” he said, adding that it was part of UMS’ effort to empower its integrity to combat power abuse and corruption.

MACC yesterday confirmed that an investigation is being conducted into allegations of false claims.

Sabah MACC director Jalil Jaafar said the investigation is being handled by the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

“Sabah MACC has nothing to do with the probe,” he said.

Pembubaran parti KITA menunjukkan perjuangan parti itu tidak jelas : Rosnah Shirlin

Pergerakan Puteri UMNO menyifatkan pembubaran Parti Keadilan Insan Tanah Air (KITA)  menunjukkan perjuangan Presidennya, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim tidak ke mana selain parti itu sendiri menawarkan perjuangan yang tidak jelas arah tujunya. 

Malah boleh saja dirumuskan cubaan Zaid Ibrahim menubuhkan KITA adalah sia-sia  malah pengakuan pemimpin itu sendiri bahawa KITA adalah satu kesilapan jelas membuktikan bahawa kewujudan parti itu dibuat tanpa perancangan teliti, tanpa matlamat serta hala tuju yang benar-benar dapat dimanfaatkan oleh rakyat.

Jika dilihat alasan pembubaran KITA, Zaid cuba mengetengahkan KITA sebagai parti yang ideal - menentang ekstremis dalam pembangkang pada masa yang sama tidak bersetuju dengan sesetengah budaya dalam Barisan Nasional, malah beliau juga tidak mahu KITA dilihat terlalu kritikal terhadap pembangkang. Daripada pendirian tersebut jelas menunjukkan bahawa Zaid sendiri gagal mengenal pasti apa yang beliau dan ahli-ahli KITA inginkan sehingga parti itu gagal mendapat sambutan di kalangan orang ramai.

Pembubaran KITA sememangnya telah dijangka berdasarkan kepada hala tuju parti itu yang dilihat cuba duduk di tengah-tengah tetapi pada masa yang sama tidak bersedia menerima kritikan sehingga akhirnya Zaid sendiri mengakui bahawa penubuhan KITA adalah satu kesilapan.

Justeru jika Zaid percaya kepada peribahasa Melayu yang menyebut ‘jika sesat di penghujung jalan, kembalilah ke pangkal jalan’ maka kembalilah kepada perjuangan sebenar dan tawarkan perkhidmatan yang benar-benar dapat memberi manfaat kepada orang ramai.

Egypt is no stranger to rioting. Riot like the Egyptians, some said. Even after long time President Hosni Mubarak was ousted by people's power last January 2011, the riots continue.

Even in soccer, people in Egypt will kill each other, just because they don't like the result. Come on man, this is soccer, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Even the great Teams like Barcelona and Brazil, lose some matches, they cannot win for 1,000 consecutive matches.

In the incident on Wednesday 2nd February 2012 in Port Said, 74 people died and more than 1,000 were injured when violence erupted at the end of a football match which was won by the home team, Al Masry beating the nation's top team, Al Ahly 3-1.

Rival fans invaded the pitch as the final whistle blew and started throwing stones, fireworks, flares and bottles.

Players ran for their lives down the tunnel as the match turned into a bloody battle zone.

Al-Ahly star Mohamed Abo Treika said as the shocking scenes unfolded in Port Said: This is not football any more. This is war. People are dying in front of us.

He added: There is no movement and no security and no ambulances this is a horrible situation and one that can never be forgotten.

Stunned TV viewers saw live pictures of the carnage that followed al-Masrys 3-1 home victory over Cairo club al-Ahly as fans set fire to the stands.

The death toll, which officials fear could rise, includes stewards.

The 1,200 travelling al-Ahli fans were hopelessly outnumbered as there were around 13,000 al-Masry supporters in the ground.

Fans were seen cornering rivals and opposition players as others went on a wrecking spree in the stands.

At one stage a small group of riot police formed a corridor to try to protect players. But they were quickly overwhelmed and fans kicked and punched them as they fled for the relative safety of the dressing rooms.

According to some reports, the al-Ahly manager had to be rescued by a posse of police as he was being viciously beaten by an angry mob.

Egypts armed forces sent helicopters to the stadium to rescue al-Ahly players and as many supporters as they could.

Most deaths were reportedly caused by concussions, deep head wounds and suffocation from the stampede.

40 people were in serious conditions and undergoing surgery. Officials believe the violence could have been organised in advance.

Witnesses reported fans bringing knives into the ground.

It is the biggest disaster in Egypts soccer history.

Egyptian football fans are notoriously violent, particularly supporters of al-Ahly who call themselves the Ultras.

But despite extreme rivalry between the two clubs and the potential for trouble following violence at other matches in recent weeks, security had been downgraded and to me this shows that the Egyptian police is stupid as well...!!!

Police have kept a much lower profile since the mass protests in Cairo and other cities last year in 2011, which saw President Hosni Mubarak ousted from power.

All forthcoming premier league matches in Egypt were immediately cancelled until further notice and the newly elected parliament will meet today to discuss the riots.



THE HILLSBOROUGH TRAGEDY, 15 APRIL 1989

Before the Egypt incident, the worst ever football disaster was the Hillsborough disaster that occurred on 15 April 1989 at the Hillsborough football stadium, in Sheffield, England.

96 people were crushed to death and 766 injured, all fans of Liverpool.

It remains the deadliest stadium-related disaster in British history and one of the worst ever international football accidents.

The match, an FA Cup semi-final tie between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, was abandoned 6 minutes into the game.

The official inquiry into the disaster, the Taylor Report, concluded that the main reason for the disaster was the failure of police control, the findings which resulted in the elimination of standing terraces at all major football stadiums in both England and Scotland.

THE HEYSEL TRAGEDY, 29 May 1985

Among the worst ever soccer disaster before the Egyptian incident was also the Heysel Stadium Disaster, in Brussels, Belgium which happened on 29 May 1985, which again involves Liverpool, my favourite team. Very sad indeed.



39 Juventus fans died while 600 injured when escaping fans were pressed against a wall in the Heysel Stadium before the start of the 1985 European Cup Final between Liverpool of England and Juventus of Italy.

Approximately one hour before the Liverpool-Juventus final was due to kick off, a large group of Liverpool fans breached a fence separating them from a "neutral area" which contained rival Juventus fans.

The Juventus fans ran back on the terraces and away from the threat into a concrete retaining wall. Fans already seated near the wall were crushed; eventually the wall collapsed. Many people climbed over to safety, but many others died or were badly injured.

The game was played despite the disaster in order to prevent further violence, won by Juventus 1-0, via a Michel Platini penalty after Boniek was fouled.

The tragedy resulted in all English football clubs being placed under an indefinite ban by UEFA from all European competitions, which was lifted in 1990–91, with Liverpool being excluded for an additional year and several Liverpool fans prosecuted for manslaughter.

The disaster was later described as "the darkest hour in the history of the UEFA competitions".

Treasure hunter says he found US$3 Billion World War II wreck!!!

Wow this could be the find of the century!!! Whoever said Treasure Hunters aren't real, eat this!

An American treasure hunter said he has located the wreck of a British merchant ship that was torpedoed by a German U-boat off Cape Cod during World War II while carrying what he claims was a load of platinum bars now worth more than $3 billion.

If the claim proves true, it could be one of the richest sunken treasures ever discovered in the history of the world.

But an attorney for the British government expressed doubt the vessel was carrying platinum. And if it was, in fact, laden with precious metals, who owns the hoard could become a matter of international dispute.

Treasure hunter Greg Brooks of Sub Sea Research in Gorham, Maine, USA, announced that a wreck found sitting in 700 feet of water 50 miles offshore is that of the S.S. Port Nicholson, sunk in 1942.

He said on Wednesday 1st February 2012, that he and his crew identified the treasure via the hull number using an underwater camera, and he hopes to begin raising the treasure later this month or in early March with the help of a remotely operated underwater vessel.

"I'm going to get it, one way or another, even if I have to lift the ship out of the water," Brooks said.

However, the claim should be viewed with skepticism, said Robert F. Marx, an underwater archaeologist, maritime historian and owner of Seven Seas Search and Salvage LLC in Florida.

Both an American company and an English company previously went after the contents of the ship years ago and surely retrieved at least a portion, Marx said. The question is how much, if any, platinum is left, he said.

"Every wreck that is lost is the richest wreck lost. Every wreck ever found is the biggest ever found. Every recovery is the biggest ever recovery," Marx said.

Brooks said the Port Nicholson was headed for New York with 71 tons of platinum valued at the time at about $53 million when it was sunk in an attack that left six people dead. The platinum was a payment from the Soviet Union to the U.S. for war supplies, Brooks said. The vessel was also carrying gold bullion and diamonds, he said.

Brooks said he located the wreck in 2008 using shipboard sonar but held off announcing the find while he and his business partners obtained salvage rights from a federal judge. Salvage rights are not the same as ownership rights, which are still unsettled.

Britain will wait until salvage operations begin before deciding whether to file a claim on the cargo, said Timothy Shusta, an attorney in Tampa, Fla., who represents the British government. He said it is unclear if the ship was even carrying any platinum.

"We're still researching what was on the vessel," he said. "Our initial research indicated it was mostly machinery and military stores."

The U.S. government has not weighed in on the court case yet, and Brooks said he doubts that will happen, since the Soviets eventually reimbursed Washington for the lost payment.

A U.S. Treasury Department ledger shows that the platinum bars were on board, Brooks said, and his underwater video footage shows a platinum bar surrounded by 30 boxes that he believes hold four to five platinum ingots each. But he has yet to bring up any platinum, saying his underwater vessel needs to retrofitted to attach lines to the boxes, which would then be hoisted to the surface by winch.

"Of course there are skeptics," he said. "There's skeptics on everything you do."

Maritime law is complicated, and there could be multiple claims on the ship's contents.

After the sinking of the HMS Edinburgh, an English warship carrying Soviet gold bullion as a payment to the allies during World War II, England, the U.S. and the Soviet Union had claims on the sunken treasure, Marx said. A consortium that owned the salvage vessel was given 10 percent of the prize, while the rest was shared by the other parties, he said.

In other big finds, treasure hunter Mel Fisher made international headlines in 1985 when he discovered a $450 million mother lode of precious metals and gemstones from a Spanish galleon that went down off Florida in 1622.

In another case, a Tampa exploration company has been ordered by the courts to return $500 million worth of treasure from a Spanish warship to Spain. The ship was sunk by the British navy during a battle off Portugal in 1804.

A Tanjung Malim, Perak, Malaysa -born Dutch citizen claims he is a descendent of the Emperor of China and that his bloodline is linked to royal families in India, Java and Siam.

IT is not every day that you get to meet a trillionaire. So when I was invited to interview Kamal Ashnawi, a person I've never heard of, I said yes.

On Saturday morning, 21st January 2012, at a Kuala Lumpur hotel coffee house together with two of Kamal's aides, I waited for the so-called trillionaire.

Wearing a baseball cap, long-sleeved shirt and jeans, he sauntered over to our table. The two aides bowed, pressed their palms together to their forehead as if greeting royalty and kissed his hands.

“We call him Tuanku as he is a sultan from Indonesia,” one of the aides whispered to me.

According to Kamal, he is a Dutch citizen born in Tanjung Malim, Perak, on January 1st, 1964.

“I'm a descendent of the Emperor of China and in a history that went haywire, my family fled from China to Kedah. I traced my bloodline to the royal families of China, India, Java and Siam,” claimed the man who is also known as Raden Mas Prabhu Gusti Agung Ki Asmoro Wijoyo.

“I grew up in Tanjung Malim and my family here is very simple and ordinary. Nobody in my family talks about our royal blood and wealth. But my grandmother once told me: “You are special and, when the time comes, you will know.”

It was in Holland in the late 1980s that Kamal “found out who he really was”. A member of an Indonesian royal family, kicked out of the country by president Sukarno, told him he was of royal blood.

In London in the early 1990s, a lawyer told Kamal about his royal family's massive wealth. Unconvinced, he told the lawyer to prove his claims.

He and the lawyer flew from London to Hong Kong to meet the “keeper of the royal treasure”. From there, Kamal and the keeper travelled to Kunming in China.

They hiked up a mountain for four hours and reached a cave guarded by an old couple who, Kamal says, are immortals.

“If you tried to pass them without their blessing, you would cough blood and die,” he said.

Inside the three-metre-high cave, Kamal saw gold bars stacked like a pagoda, US$15 million (RM46million) in jade and US$10 million (RM31 million) in diamonds and stacks of US dollars.

“I took a gold bar and knocked it on a rock. It was really gold. The treasure is the wealth of the dynasties that ruled China. Their wealth was also kept in other mountains and in vaults all over the world,” he said.

About three years ago, when Kamal watched Nicholas Cage's movie National Treasure, he laughed.

“The treasure in the movie was small compared to the wealth I saw in the mountain,” he said.

Next, Kamal told of his meeting two years ago in Kuala Lumpur with Dr Wong Eng Po, a royal physician from China.

Dr Wong placed his hand on Kamal's bald head, then immediately bowed in front of Kamal and ordered his five followers to do the same.

“He said I was the reincarnation of Emperor Nurhaci (1661-1626) of China. He felt an energy on my head which was superhuman because an emperor, unlike an ordinary human, has to think more.

“I'm the reincarnation of two emperors of China,” Kamal added.

He elaborated that a few years ago, the royal family decided he would be the sole administrator of the royal wealth kept in secret accounts in about 1,000 banks worldwide.

“This means that 86.7% of the world's money belongs to me,” he said.

Taking out several folders, Kamal said: “You're lucky, I brought documents.”

He produced an A4-sized paper with the photographs of the national treasure, the immortal couple and several “official-looking” letters allegedly from HSBC certifying he has an account of five trillion euros (RM20 trillion).

“That is a small amount. I have more money in other banks and institutions,” he added.

I wondered why his name has not appeared in the Forbes' list of world's richest people. And a suspicion lingered about his claims.

However, I could not authenticate his documents since the bank was closed for Chinese New Year.

Kamal has not made any withdrawal from the account as “it is not money that you can move just like that”.

“The money is under the control of Indonesia, Germany, Britain, the US and the Euro Central Bank and I've got to go smooth with them,” he said.

“I can't use the money directly but I will invest in certain projects. Like three trillion euros (RM12 trillion) to green a desert in China.” (only a true lunatic will say things like that!!!!!!)

Curious, I asked what was the difference between a billionaire and a trillionaire.

He replied: “A billionaire needs to show he has the money. But for me, I don't need to show that I got money. I can travel in a bus. I can wear slippers.”

Born in the year of the dragon, Kamal believes 2012 is his year. In March, he says he will negotiate with institutions such as the IMF to be recognised as the Emperor of Indonesia.

He says he's rich. But his story could just be as rich.

Let's hope he is not another Elie Youssef Najem, the so-called Lebanese billionaire who made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
