I’m being sexually harassed, says Bung Mokhtar after calling Malaysian female drivers as lousy drivers!!

Kinabatangan Member of Parliament, Datuk Bung Moktar Radin on the limelight again.

1st he drew ire from women groups for suggesting in the Malaysian Parliament that women leaked (menstruate) every month, that remarks came after the MPs debated about leak in the Parliament roof.

2ndly, he was constantly on the limelight when he married Malaysia's sexy and popular actress, Zizie Ezette.


Maybe Bung Moktar is reffering to these kind of women drivers..

He said most women drivers were slow and did not pay attention to their surroundings while they were at the wheel.

“Some women drivers drive slowly and seem oblivious to traffic.

“When you honk at them, they get agitated with some even showing hand gestures to other drivers,” he said during the debate on the Supplementary Supply Bill.

Today, Wednesday 30th March 2011, an annoyed Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin has made a passionate plea to women's groups not to target him as a sexist following his comments about women being slow drivers.

The Kinabatangan MP said his Monday's 28 March 2011 remarks in the Dewan Rakyat had been manipulated, causing him to be singled out by women's groups so much so that he felt “sexually harassed”.

“I was talking about careless drivers and dangerous road conditions,” he said, explaining that he did not accuse women of being 100% responsible for road accidents and that he was merely talking about those who had just passed their driving tests.

He said he had the utmost respect for women and considered them as a God's gift who must be respected and treasured.

“But this has been manipulated by several parties as though I did not respect women. Today, I have become the focus of women's groups. I wish to ask the Speaker for help as I consider this sexual harassment against me,” he told the Dewan Wednesday, 30 Mac 2011, amid laughter from the floor.

“I never said that women were the cause of it (road accidents). It is the Opposition who twisted it,” he added.

He did not blame the media for sparking the uproar against him, saying “it is usual for newspapers to sensationalise the news”.

His clarification drew support from Datuk Ismail Kassim (BN-Arau), who said the issue did not arise as he was witness to it when Bung Mokhtar spoke about it on Monday.

After the controversial remarks, Bung has come under fire from various quarters including women groups, the opposition and even from a BN women minister.

Women's groups have slammed the sexist remarks by Bung against women drivers, calling him a disgrace.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister of the ruling BN party, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said Bung's statement against women drivers was completely uncalled for and offensive.

“We are gathering statistics on road accidents from the police to get a clearer picture about the allegation,” she said in a statement.

Bung Mokhtar, claimed that most women drivers were slow and paid little attention while on the road.

All Women's Action Society (AWAM) acting president Ho Yock Lin called for Bung Mokhtar to resign immediately.

“He is an utter disgrace as a parliamentarian and an embarrassment to his party,” she said.

Women's Aid Organisation executive director Ivy Josiah said “Bung has driven home the point that he is truly a sexist MP who does not deserve our vote.”

She added that the Joint Action Group for Gender Equality (JAG) had rightly listed Bung as one of the many sexist MPs in 2008.

Expressing shock over the remark, another BN leader, Wanita MCA vice-chairman Senator Heng Seai Kie called on Bung Mokhtar to undergo a mandatory course on gender equality.

“His pathetic utterances betray his warped mentality which has no place in Malaysia,” she said.

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah described Bung's sexist remark as being devoid of factual statistics.

The statement also sparked a heated debate on Facebook with some male users agreeing with Bung while women lashed out against him.

On Twitter, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng called Bung a threat to gender equality and said: “Maybe Bung will suggest next that women drivers be banned since they are such a menace.”

A poll posted on The Star Online asking readers if they agreed with Bung's remark that women are lousy drivers revealed that at 7.30pm yesterday, almost 4,000 people had voted with respondents equally split

The headlines of most of Malaysia's mainstream newspapers were quite shocking on 11 August 2010 because they reads "Tears Of Joy As Bung Moktar Escapes Jail Sentence In Polygamy Case".

Well we did expect Bung Moktar to escape the one month jail sentence for polygamy without consent but to hear him crying, tears flowing, was unexpected at all.

This is because Bung Moktar is reknown in Malaysia for his fiery and sometimes controversial and no holds barred statements in the Parliament.

He is one tough guy and tough guys don't cry!!!

But no matter how tough you are, every man has this soft spot.

Ask Alexander The Great, Napoleon Bonaparte, Lenin, Stalin, Churchill, Barack Obama and even the Big Show - the 500 pound professional wrestler - They all had cried before..

People shed tears for many reasons - be it jofyul occassions or saddness.

And it was understood in Bung Moktar's case. But he has a beautiful wife to console him - Zizie Ezzette - the glamorous Malaysian actress who won Bung Moktar's heart. It was reported that Zizie herself did not cry after the verdict was announced by the Shah Alam Syariah High Court on August 11, 2010/

Well these event summed up the Kinabatangan member of parliament's immediate reaction to the decision of the Syariah High Court in Shah Alam, which set aside a one-month jail sentence imposed on him in May 2010, for polygamy without consent.

This is the side of Bung Moktar few have seen as the visibly-moved politician wiped away his tears of joy.

Zizie stroked his back to calm her man as Bung Moktar said:

"I am grateful for the judgment handed down by the court. It is the best gift for this Ramadan.

"I will continue to serve as an elected representative, and thank everyone, especially family members, friends and the media who have been supporting me."

Zizie Izette, wearing a scarf and clad in a pink modern kurung, also expressed gratitude to those who stood by the couple during the case.

Selangor Syariah Chief Judge Mukhyuddin Ibrahim, in his judgment, however, ordered Bung Moktar, 51, to pay the RM1,000 fine, in default six months' jail.

When handing down the judgment, Mukhyuddin said he accepted five of the 13 petitions filed by Bung Moktar in the appeal, including the fact that Bung Moktar was a first offender.

He noted that the lower court had erred in not taking into consideration that fact when handing down the jail sentence on Bung Moktar.

However, he said the jail sentence meted by the Lower Syariah Court was low, considering Bung Moktar's position where as a respected leader and member of parliament, he should know the syariah law.

"Nevertheless, it is unfair to link the appellant (Bung Moktar) as a member of parliament with the formulation of the syariah law because the syariah law is set by the state government.

"Hence, the court accepts the appellant's petition that the lower court had meted out the jail sentence on him, without taking into account his position as member of parliament, and handing down the sentence on grounds that if a commensurate sentence is not handed down, it will invite negative perception from the public on the credibility of the Syariah Court," he added.

Mukhyuddin said the Syariah Lower Court also failed to consider the implication of the conviction or jail sentence on Bung Moktar's position and finance, in view of his huge responsibility towards his family.

He opined that if Bung Moktar were to be sent to jail, it would adversely affect his two wives and children and would create social problems.

"After studying submissions by both parties, the court finds that the suitable sentence for the appellant is a maximum fine without imprisonment.

"Therefore, the jail sentence on the appellant is commuted to RM1,000 fine or six months' jail if he fails to pay the fine," he added.

Bung Moktar is represented by Syarie lawyer Amli Embong while Zusyarafain Md Yusof prosecuted.

On May 19, the Gombak Timur Syariah Lower Court sentenced Bung Moktar to a month's jail for committing polygamy without consent, with Zizie at No: 12, Jalan TC2B/3 Cemerlang Heights, Taman Melati, Gombak at 8.50pm on Dec 16, last year.

He was also fined RM1,000 or a month's jail for abetting Zizie in marrying her, without the consent of the Registrar of Marriage, Divorce and Reconciliation at the same place, time and date.

On May 25, Bung Moktar filed an appeal against the jail sentence.

Definitely a Ramadhan gift for Bung Moktar.... The most important thing is that Kinabatangan Parliamentary constituency which is as big as Pahang - the largest state in West Malaysia, continues to get mega development by the ruling Barisan Nasional state and federal government.

Ahli Parlimen Kinabatangan, Sabah Datuk Bung Moktar Radin dikenali sebagai seorang yang petah berkata kata dan sering mewarnai suasana di Dewan Rakyat.

Beliau sering mengambil bahagian dalam perbahasan dalam segala aspek yang dibincangkan di Parlimen.

Ini menyebabkan beliau tidak sunyi dari kontroversi dan pernah juga digelar "Bigfoot" oleh Karpal Singh.

Beliau juga pernah menarik perhatian ramai apabila pernah melabelkan Ahli Parlimen Batu Gajah - Pong Fo Kuan sebagai "Batu Gajah pun Bocor"... sehingga menimbulkan kemarahan golongan wanita.

Dan semalam pada 19 Mei 2010, Datuk Bung Moktar sekali lagi menjadi perhatian ramai apabila dijatuhkan hukuman penjara sebulan oleh Mahkamah Rendah Syariah Gombak Timur, kerana berpoligami, atau berkahwin lagi, tanpa kebenaran Mahkamah.

Hukuman dijatuhkan Hakim Syarie, Wan Mahyuddin Wan Muhammad.

Dengan keputusan itu, Bung Moktar menjadi ahli Parlimen pertama di negara ini yang dihukum penjara atas kesalahan berpoligami tanpa kebenaran mahkamah.

Isteri keduanya, pelakon Zizie Izette yang duduk di sebelah Bung Moktar, kelihatan terkejut dan terus memandang ke arah suaminya sebaik mendengar keputusan itu.

Zizie atau nama penuhnya, Zizie Izette A. Samad pula didenda RM1,000 atau penjara sebulan bagi kesalahan yang sama.

Bung Moktar atau nama sebenarnya, Moktar Radin, 51, juga didenda RM1,000 atau penjara sebulan kerana bersubahat dengan Zizie untuk berpoligami tanpa kebenaran.

''Tertuduh merupakan seorang ahli Parlimen yang terlibat dalam meluluskan sesuatu undang-undang. Beliau seharusnya menghormati dan mendukung undang-undang tersebut tidak kira undang-undang sivil atau syariah.

''Tertuduh wanita pula seorang pelakon wanita Muslim yang menjadi idola dan ikutan.

''Sekiranya kedua-dua mereka tidak boleh mengikut undang-undang, ia menunjukkan seolah-olah undang-undang syariah boleh dipermainkan oleh mereka yang berpengaruh dan berkepentingan,'' katanya.

Hukuman pemenjaraan itu dilihat agak sukar dipercayai oleh keluarga mertua Bung Moktar termasuk ibu mertuanya, Khaty Fauziah.

Ahli Parlimen yang pernah digelar Bigfoot itu bagaimanapun berjaya dalam permohonannya untuk menggantung pelaksanaan hukuman penjara itu sementara menunggu rayuan.

Sementara rayuan didengar dan diputuskan, Bung Mokhtar diikat jamin RM1,000 beserta seorang penjamin dengan syarat notis rayuan perlu difailkan di Mahkamah Tinggi Syariah Shah Alam dalam tempoh 14 hari dan salinan notis itu perlu diserahkan ke mahkamah tersebut.

Pada prosiding hari ini, hakim syarie tersebut turut mendenda RM1,000 atau penjara enam bulan ke atas enam individu termasuk pelakon wanita itu kerana bersubahat dengan Bung Moktar yang berpoligami tanpa kebenaran.

Mereka ialah abang pemegang watak utama drama Aduhai Esah, Datuk Ahmad Shahazmi, 42, dan Samzy Fuzette, 34; adik mereka, Shaheizy Sam, 28; serta dua rakan Bung Moktar iaitu Sahari Ahmad, 54, dan Titing Putang, 56.

Ahmad Shahazmi yang juga wali kepada Zizie dan dua adik lelakinya itu turut menghadapi tuduhan tambahan iaitu menikahkan pelakon wanita itu serta menjadi saksi perkahwinan tersebut.

Bagi kesalahan ini, mahkamah menjatuhkan denda RM1,000 setiap seorang atau penjara sebulan.

Terdahulu, sebelum menjatuhkan hukuman, Wan Mahyuddin menyatakan, pernikahan yang tidak mengikut prosedur yang sepatutnya boleh dianggap sebagai pernikahan sindiket.

''Perkahwinan merupakan satu perjanjian yang agung sebab ia memastikan keturunan atau nasab yang soleh dan solehah.

''Dan oleh sebab itu, adalah perlu pasangan menzahirkan dan memasyhurkan perkahwinan masing-masing mengikut kemampuan tanpa dirahsiakan,'' katanya.

Hakim syarie itu juga menyatakan pernikahan tersebut mungkin sah kerana ia memenuhi rukun nikah tetapi ia juga perlu dilihat dari sudut undang-undang syariah Islam.

Hakim itu juga sempat menegur kesemua saksi perkahwinan tersebut.

Wan Mahyuddin menyatakan, abang dan adik lelaki Zizie serta rakan-rakan Bung Moktar sepatutnya membantu pasangan itu agar perkahwinan tersebut dapat dilangsungkan dengan betul dan mengikut hukum syarak.

Selesai prosiding, pihak media terpaksa menunggu pasangan itu hampir dua jam bagi mendapatkan reaksi mereka.

Bung Moktar bagaimanapun enggan mengulas panjang dan hanya menyatakan beliau menerima keputusan tersebut dan menyerahkan segalanya kepada Allah.

Zizie pula dengan ramah hanya berterima kasih kepada media yang hadir pada prosiding tersebut tanpa menjawab sebarang pertanyaan.

Peguam syarie Amli Embong yang mewakili semua tertuduh ketika ditemui pihak media turut memberitahu, pihaknya akan memfailkan permohonan pengesahan perkahwinan dan poligami pasangan itu dalam masa yang terdekat.
