Zaman kegemilangan rock di Malaysia, Pertama Complex jadi tumpuan

Pertama kompleks, KL, dulu dan sekarang

Saya berpeluang berkunjung ke Pertama Complex, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur buat pertama kalinya pada 1989.

Ketika itu saya masih ingat, masih ada bas Mini tambang 50 sen yang membawa saya dari Bangkok Bank, KL ke Pertama Complex.

Waktu itu, irama rock dan heavy metal adalah muzik no.1 di Malaysia.

Muzik kumpulan Search, Lefthanded, Rusty Blade, Wings, Ella & The Boys, Sofea, SYJ, dan banyak lagi, senantiasa bermain di corong radio dan bibir belia serta generasi muda di KL masa itu.

Jadi, tidak hairanlah, pertama Complex ketika itu dipenuhi golongan Mat dan Minah Rock dan Heavy Metal.

Kompleks Pertama menjadi tempat lepak, persinggahan dan pertemuan mereka.

Ini kerana di situ, ada banyak kedai yang boleh menjahit fesyen rock terkini, samada jeans, baju dan jaket kepada kasut.

Begitu juga kedai aksesori rock dan Heavy Metal seperti lambang gitar flying V, baju matahari terbit Jepun dan aksesori lain yang banyak terdapat di Pertama Complex.

Itu 1989.

Pada Sabtu 7 April 2012, saya berpeluang berkunjung ke Pertama Complex lagi, iaitu 23 tahun selepas kunjungan pertama pada 1989.

Kini tiada lagi bas mini, yang ada hanya LRT, ERL, Monorel dan segala kemudahan canggih.

Saya mendapati ruang dalamnya masih seperti dahulu dengan tangga naik atas dan bawah.

Namun tiada lagi kelibat mat Rock dan Minah Rock serta kedai Rock. Mungkin kerana irama Rock dan Heavy Metal bukan lagi muzik no.1 di Malaysia dan KL.

Yang ada hanya kedai jual handphone dan kedai biasa lain.

Namun keistimewaan dan tarikan Pertama Complex yang berbeza dengan pusat membeli belah lain, masih ada iaitu kedai menjual baju kulit, kasut kulit gaya rock dan koboi serta kedai menjual aksesori polis dan tentera.

Di Pertama Complexlah anda boleh membeli kasut kulit buatan tangan dengan harga murah iaitu RM120 sepasang berbanding harga RM300 di pasaran, baju kulit, sarung tangan dan sarung pistol kulit serta tali pinggang kulit.

Begitu juga t-shirt menampilkan pelbagai jenama Pistol dan Rifle serta pelbagai gambar dan logo tentera elit seperti Navy Seals, Rangers, Green Beret dan komando Perancis. Topi tentera asing seperti Amerika Syarikat dan Soviet Union juga dijual di sini.

Malahan banyak kedai menjual pangkat, beg tentera, topi keledar tentera, mestin dan kelambu tentera serta pakaian Sniper atau penembak tepat.

Itulah keistimewaan dan tarikan di Pertama Kompleks yang tidak terdapat di premis perniagaan lain di Malaysia.

Liverpool teaches Malaysia a football lesson. Liverpool 6-3 Malaysia, Saturday 16 July 2011

On Saturday 16th July 2011, Liverpool, the 5 times European Champion and 18 times English Premier League champions, trashed the Malaysian national side, 6-3 in a friendly match at the national Stadium, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysians were hammered 0-4 by Arsenal a few days earlier.

The Malaysians who have never qualified into the world cup final were handed a sound beating by the Reds, The 2005 King of Europe and the Pride of Merseyside.

Mind you, the scoreline will be much bigger had Liverpool's manager Sir Kenny Dalglish and top striker Luis Suarez joined the Reds in that match.

Dalglish was away in England finalising the signing of Stuart Downing while Suarez, the Uruguyan international striker was involved in the 2011 Copa America in Agentina.

Coincidently, the match was held at the same time when Malaysia's Prime Minister, Najib Razak was away in London. Najib is an avid Manchester United fan.

Charlie Adam, who joined from Blackpool early July 2011, made his starting debut for Liverpool and was at the heart of the team's first-half attacking moments. He scored with a twice-taken penalty in the 24th minute.

Malaysian captain and dead ball specialist, Shafiq Rahim equalized near halftime with a superb free kick.

The half time ended 1-1.

Liverpool assistant manager Steve Clark made 11 substitutions at the break.

7 goals were scored in an astonishing final 28 minutes of the game.

Liverpool's duo David Ngog and Maxi Rodriguez both scored twice with Dutch international Dirk Kuyt adding the other goal for the visitors in the 93rd minute.

Ngog who came on for Carroll put Liverpool ahead in the 67th minute, taking advantage of a defensive lapse to knock the ball home from close range beating Malaysia's top goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat.

If his first goal had an element of luck, the second was a beauty — Ngog blasting the ball into the net while on the run two minutes later.

Maxi Rodriguez, the Argentine international made it four for the Reds in the 74th, coming in from the right to convert a cross from Emiliano Insua.

Malaysia's top striker, Mohamad Safee Mohamad Sali, was a reserve as he was carrying an injury.

But he came on in the last 20 minutes of the game to make it 4-2 in the 79th minute after added another goal two minutes later.

Rodriguez, however, nodded the ball into the net in the 90th minute from close range off a cross by Kuyt.

In the 93rd minute, Kyut final burst through the defense in injury time scored the last and 6th goal for the five-time European champions.

Liverpool defeated China's Guanghong Sunray Cave 4-3 earlier on Wednesday 13 July 2011.

Meanwhile Malaysia earlier lost 0-4 to another English giant, Arsenal at the Bukit Jalil stadium.

So in 2 matches in Asia, Liverpool scored an impressive 10 goals but the Reds' leaky defence conceded 6 goals.

This kind of mistakes must not happen in the top flight of British football if Liverpool wants to be champions of England and Europe again.

"We still have a lot of work to do. It's early in the preseason and the players are not quite sharp yet," Liverpool assistant coach Steve Clarke said. "It was a great game and the Malaysian boys were very aggressive but fair.

"We let in another three goals today but it's not just the defense we have to work on. I'm sure the boys will be up to the mark in four weeks' time when we kick off the season."

Malaysia was thrashed 4-0 by Arsenal earlier this week, and its coach K.Rajagobal said his team had learned a lot from both games in preparation for a two-legged World Cup qualifier against Singapore on July 23 and July 28.

"I told the players we had to be aggressive and we worked real hard," he said. "There will be some players who will be elated that we scored three times against a top club, but others will be sad we conceded six times. There were sloppy goals and I'm not too happy about that."

Perhimpunan Bersih 2.0, dimana dokongan Prinsip Asas Rukun Negara?

Pada Ogos 1970, Prinsip asas Rukun Negara diperkenalkan setelah diperkenankan DULI YANG MAHA MULIA, YANG DI PERTUAN AGONG ekoran peristiwa 13 Mei 1969.

Kepada yang lupa, berikut adalah prinsip asas Rukun Negara.

Namun persoalannya mengapa ribuan rakyat Malaysia yang selama ini mendokong prinsip RUKUN NEGARA, telah melakukan demonstrasi jalanan anjuran Bersih 2.0 di Kuala Lumpur pada Sabru 9 Julai 2011 sehingga telah mencemar imej Malaysia di mata dunia?

Apakah yang sebenarnya dimahukan pengerusi Bersih 2.0 Datuk S. Ambiga??

Mahu pilihanraya bersih dan adil atau mahu Anwar Ibrahim menjadi Perdana Menteri menerusi demonstrasi jalanan??

Kalau pilihanraya negara tak telus dan tak bersih, masakan PAS memerintah Kelantan sejak 1990 hingga sekarang (2011) selama 21 tahun dan masakan pembangkang menang banyak kerusi sehingga mampu memerintah SELANGOR, PERAK, KEDAH, PULAU PINANG?? DAN PEMBANGKANG JUGA MENGUASAI HAMPIR KESEMUA KERUSI DI WILAYAH PERSEKUTUAN KUALA LUMPUR..

Sama sama kita fikirkan.. Bersih atau tak bersih pilihanraya di negara ini.

Street demonstrations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 9th July 2011

Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia turned into mayhem and chaos today 9th July 2011 after thousands of people marched onto the streets, to demand for electoral reforms.

The organiser of this mammoth rally, Bersih 2.0 promised a smooth and peaceful rally, but in the end, it turned into chaos when the police used water cannon and tear gas to disperse the crowd who assembled illegaly.

As a result, the Malaysian police force battled with polls reform coalition Bersih (with yellow as their official colour) and the anti Bersih 2.0 > UMNO Youth who called themselves Patriot and dressed in Red in the streets of Kuala Lumpur.

Umno Youth, which is rallying to defend the electoral system, congregated in Bukit Bintang at 1.30pm. This was a last-minute change from the earlier announced time of 10am.

Bersih has vowed to gather at the Stadium Merdeka and in various parts of Kuala Lumpur at 2pm to call for wide-ranging reforms to the electoral system which it claims to be unfree and unfair.

Despite roadblocks at key junctions and roads in Kuala Lumpur, traffic is smooth from the low number of vehicles, but traffic is gridlocked at the outskirts as police weed out possible protestors.

The majority of the police are stationed at the favourite haunts for protestors - Dataran Merdeka, the Masjid Jamek area, Bukit Bintang, Stadium Merdeka, Masjid Negara, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, KLCC and the Sogo shopping centre.

Vehicles entering Kuala Lumpur were being vigorously inspected. There is also heavy police presence at every nook and corner of Kuala Lumpur.

As of 8.30am, Light Rail Train services are operating as usual, without any stations inaccessible but closed around 3 pm due to the escalating tense situations.

The weather forecast for Kuala Lumpur is a mix of cloud and sun with the possibility of showers or thunderstorms and rain it did. Heavy rains pounded Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon, forcing demonstrators to run helter skelter for cover.

Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia kicked off the day with a screaming front-page headline in bold red 'Curfew in KL today?', followed by 'There are people planning to open fire and blame the police for it'.

In the end, police said a total of 1,667 people had been detained in the Bersih rally, around Kuala Lumpur.

They included 1,500 men, 151 women and 16 children who had accompanied them.

Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said all the detainees were expected to be released by 9.30pm Saturday, 9th July 2011.

Political leaders from both the ruling government and oppossition as well as prominent figures were among those arrested.

They include Bersih 2.0 chairperson Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, along with Parti Keadilan Rakyat, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, Subang Member of Parliament from PKR Sivarasa Rasiah and Batu Member of Parliament Tian Chua.

PAS leaders who were detained included president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang, Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu and vice presidents Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Salahuddin Ayub.

Malay rights group Perkasa chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali said they did not take hold a rally as planned earlier in the week to counter the Bersih rally as they did not have a permit.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Putera UMNO leader Datuk Azeez Abdul Rahim led a group of Patriot supporters to also counter the Bersih rally but both were also arrested by police and taken to the Police Training

Let's pray for Malaysia.

Teoh Inquest: It’s not suicide, it's not homicide, Coroner says - The Star Online 5 Jan 2011

As reported by The Star Online on 5th January 2011 - the much awaited verdict of the Teo Beng Hock inquest to determine the cause of death.



Teoh, 30, political secretary to Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on July 16 2009 on the fifth floor corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia after he had given a statement at the office of the Selangor branch of the commission on the 14th floor of the same building.


Teoh Inquest: It’s not suicide, it's not homicide, Coroner says


KUALA LUMPUR 5th January 2011 : The death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock was not a suicide and it was not a homicide, Coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas ruled on Wednesday, 5th January 2011.

It is, therefore, an open verdict.

"The neck injury and the suicide note are the crucial evidence.

"Two theories of cause of death were advanced - death by homicide and death by suidide," he said.

"The handwriting of the suicide note was only similar to the deceased's. I'm not qiualified to say it's a suicide note.

"I rule out death of the deceased by suicide as there are unsettled issues in the question of suicide," he said.

He then ruled out suicide as the cause of Teoh's death.

He also ruled out homicide, saying that the inquest had established that Teoh had sustained pre-fall injuries but there was no evidence, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the injuries constributed to death.

He gave out the much-awaited verdict on Wednesday, 5th January 2011, as a huge crowd gathered inside and outside the second floor of the annex building of the court complex.

Teoh's family were in tears and refused to comment until they spoke to their counsel.

The situation was chaotic as pressmen jostled to take photos and get comments.

A large group of supporters held up banners outside court complex demanding a Commission of Inquiry.

The Attorney-general's office directed the inquest to be held since Teoh's death raised questions of whether it was suicide or homicide.

It was widely reported that he had died hours after being questioned by the commission on alleged misuse of Selangor government allocations.

The inquest, scheduled to be completed within a month, dragged on until Nov 4 last year.

Thirty-seven witnesses testified, including well-known Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand.


Dr Pornthip, who was invited by the Selangor government, raised controversy when she claimed that Teoh could have been murdered, leading to his body being exhumed for a second post-mortem.

However, when the court was expected to hear her expert view after the second autopsy, Pornthip caused further uproar when she alleged that she had been warned been threatened and warned not to attend the inquest.

Appearing in court again on Aug 18, she said the second post-mortem indicated that Teoh was not assaulted or tortured, but maintained that his death was not a suicide.

British forensics expert Professor Dr Peter Vanezis, engaged by the anti-corruption commission, testified that Teoh was not unconscious when he plunged to his death.

Dr Vanezis said the distribution of injuries indicated that Teoh was fully conscious and orientated at the time.

He also had testified that the second post-mortem, which was supervised by him, revealed that none of the injuries showed that he was killed by other means or thrown out of the window.

Thomas Cup 2010, China won 4th crown in a row

As expected, mighty China won the 2010 Thomas Cup, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, beating arch rival Indonesia 3-0 in the final, held today Sunday, 16 May 2010.

It is China 4th straight Thomas Cup, winning the coveted trophy 8 times since 1982.

The Great Wall of China remains firm and strong.

Chen Jin gave China their fourth Thomas Cup crown in a row when he overcame Indonesia’s Simon Santoso in the second singles to win the third point for the 3-0 win at the Putra Stadium.


Lin Dan jubilates after beating Taufik Hidayat

China led 1-0 after 3 time world champion and 2008 Olympic champion, Lin Dan overpowered former world champion and 2004 Olympic Champion, Taufik Hidayat 21-7, 21-14 in the first singles. Taufik Hidayat gave his best, but could only get 7 points in the 1st set.

In the second set, Taufik tried his very best to match Lin Dan but had to contend with only 14 points as the Chinese ace swept through with powerful display of smashes, cross courts and deceptive shots, much to the delight of the crowd and millions more watching live on TV around the world.

The second match, pitted the current men's doubles World champion against the current men's doubles Olympic champion!!!

2006 and 2009 world champion and 2008 Olympic silver medalist, Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng finally outlasted 2008 Olympic Champion and 2007 world champion, Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan 25-23, 16-21, 21-12. The Indonesian pair nearly delivered the 1st point for their country in the 1st set, but the Chinese pair held their breath and composure and finally won the breath taking 1st set, 25-23.

In the 2nd set, Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan upped their tempo and won 21-16. However in the deciding game, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng showed why they are the top badminton doubles team in the world by dispatching the Indonesian pair, 21-12.

At 2-0 in favour of China, it was up to Chen Jin to wrap up the third vital point.

And the 2008 All-England winner, 2008 Olyimpic bronze medalist, 2009 world championship runners-up and world no 4, did not disappoint.

After losing the first set 19-21, he bounced back to win the second set 21-17 and then the third set 21-7 to give China their fourth crown on a trot and eighth overall.

After his win against Taufik Hidayat, Lin Dan said “I am not a class above the rest,”.

Lin Dan who is China’s three-time world champion, destroyed Indonesia's former Olympic and world champion Taufik Hidayat 21-7, 21-14 to clinch the all important first point for the defending champions in the Thomas Cup final.

The packed Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil saw Lin Dan at his best, leaving Taufik dazed with his all round superiority after a string of disappointing results before coming to Kuala Lumpur.

The first set lasted only 17 minutes as the Chinese ace raced to a 6-0 lead before Taufik got his first point in the game.

By the time the score reached 11-1, it was one-way traffic all the way as Lin Dan wrapped up the set in style.

Taufik did offer some resistance in the second set but there was no stopping Lin Dan.

With the score at 7-5 in his favour, Lin Dan stepped on the pedal and easily went on to take the set and match at 21-14 in 43 minutes.

Lin Dan seemed to tell the crowd 'who else but me' each time he scored a point with his outstretched hands much to the delight of the Chinese supporters.

“I am tired, very tired. I hope to change my economy class ticket to first class when we return home tonight,” said Lin Dan.

“I am happy to have got the chance to play (Lee) Chong Wei and Taufik and beating them both. They are two of the best players in the world. Chong Wei is still the most difficult player to play against.

“Today, we (Taufik and myself) tried to win the first point for our country. It was our responsibility to get the first point and I won.

“I put in a lot of effort in my win but I must say that I am not a class above the rest as many have made out. Chong Wei, Taufik and Peter (Gade Christensen) are at the same level.

“We have players like Chen Jin, Bao Chunlai and Chen Hong in the next group.”

When asked about his coach Tang Hsien Hu, whom he hugs first after each match, Lin Dan said: “Tang is a legend. He is like a grandfather to me. He is an expert whose techniques and badminton skills are second to none.”

Tang has somewhat revived Lin Dan’s career after a poor start to the season when he was beaten in the All England and the Swiss Open before winning the Asian Badminton Championships in New Delhi before coming to Kuala Lumpur.

Lin Dan’s next tournament is the inaugural Professional League in China which begins at the end of this month.

“We want to make this league very successful. I hope the foreign players will compete in this league,” added Lin Dan
