Engine problem delays MAS Boeing 747-400 flight to London, 17 April 2012

Malaysia Airlines flight MH2 from Kuala Lumpur to London was delayed for about 11 hours because of a technical defect involving its Boeing 747-400 aircraft engine.

The flight, which was initially scheduled to take off at 11.40pm on Monday, 16 April 2012, finally departed at 10.34am, Tuesday, 17 April 2012, an 11 hours delay.

“A rescue aircraft was arranged with a fresh set of crew to continue the flight to London,” said MAS in a statement.

The national carrier said the aircraft experienced a technical defect in one of its engines while in the air.

“In the interest of passenger safety, the captain decided to return to KLIA and the aircraft with 351 passengers and 21 operating crew had an uneventful landing at 0205 hours this morning (Tuesday, 17 April 2012),” read the statement.

The aircraft was grounded upon arrival.

MAS provided hotel accommodation for the passengers.

Among the passengers is Dato Ahirudin Atan or better known as Rocky Bru, who wrote about the incident in his popular blog, Rocky Bru.

According to him, there was a loud thud from the left engine, 10 or 15 seconds after take off at KLIA.

The jumbo aircraft has to cirle around KLIA sky for 2 hours to dump fuel before landing at KLIA.

However the MAS Cabin Crews were professional despite the unpleasant ordeal.

Boeing company needs to send their best men to check on this, to ensure passengers safety.

Usahawan dan Pereka Fesyen Sabah, Datin Rahmahjan Sulaiman Khan menempa nama di Eropah dan Amerika Syarikat

Bermula sebagai hobi, kini mendatangkan hasil amat lumayan dan menembusi pula pasaran Eropah.

Itu kisah seorang usahawan wanita dari Sabah yang kini boleh berbangga apabila rekaan beg tangan dan bajunya, bukan sahaja mendapat sambutan di dalam negeri, malahan juga di eropah..

Individu dimaksudkan, Datin Rahmahjan Sulaiman Khan, 42 tahun, dilahirkan di Sandakan, Sabah.

Beliau kini boleh berbangga sebagai antara pereka fesyen paling berjaya di Malaysia.

Produk beg tangan, jenama J-Khan dan koleksi baju jenama “RJ coutoure” rekaan datin Rahmahjan, bakal menembusi pasaran fesyen di Paris dan juga London, selepas mendapat sambutan di Milan, Itali.

Namun, untuk sampai ke tahap dinikmati sekarang, bukan mudah.

Terpaksa menempuh pelbagai kesulitan.

Datin Rahmahjan, anak seorang pegawai polis, dulunya hidup susah setelah kematian kedua ibu bapa.

Dia terpaksa melakukan pelbagai pekerjaan untuk membiayai persekolahan 3 adik beradiknya.

Namun, minat dalam bidang rekaan fesyen, mengubah nasib keluarga itu.

Dengan kerjasama seorang penjahit pakaian warga Korea, Datin Rahmahjan mula berkecimpung sepenuh masa dalam rekaan fesyen baju sejak 4 tahun lalu dan rekaan beg tangan sejak 3 tahun lalu.

Koleksi pakaian “RJ Coutoure” dan beg tangan jenama “J-Khan”, mendapat sambutan luar dugaan.

Ini kerana fesyen rekaannya unik dan mempunyai tarikan tersendiri, yang sesuai untuk semua acara termasuk casual, sopistikated dan untuk bekerja,

Sekaligus mendorongnya membuka butik di Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur dan Singapura.

Januari 2010, rekaan fesyen baju Datin Rahmahjan, menyertai pertunjukan fesyen Milan di Itali dan mendapat sambutan di kota fesyen itu.

Mac 2011 lalu, koleksi beg tangan J-Khan dan pakaian, diperagakan dalam pertunjukan fesyen di Paris.

Menurut Datin Rahmahjan beliau ada cadangan untuk memasukkan motif tradisional kaum etnik Sabah iaitu Kadazan, Dusun dan Murut dalam beg tangan dan jika diperagakan di Paris, Milan atau London, maka semua orang akan tahu kaum Kadazan, Murut tu berasal dari Sabah.

Kini, koleksi rekaan beg dan fesyen baju rekaan Datin Rahmahjan sudah boleh didapati di Paris, Dubai dan juga Amerika Syarikat.

Ketika ini, Datin Rahmahjan mahu memasarkan beg tangan rekaannya di pasaraya Harrods London, jika tiada halangan kelak dan dalam tempoh terdekat.

Jika berjaya, dia rakyat Malaysia kedua selepas Jimmy Choo (pereka kasut antarabangsa) yang berjaya memasarkan produk rekaan mereka di Harrods yang dimiliki jutawan Arab, keluarga Al-Fayed.



Datin Rahmahjan juga aktif sebagai ketua wanita Umno Tenom, Sabah dan sering memberikan bantuan kepada masyarakat di tenom yang memerlukan, termasuk di bulan puasa lalu Ramadhan 1432 Hijrah.

Pelajar Malaysia yang cedera di London, Mohd Asyraf Haziq sudah selamat menjalani pembedahan 3 jam 45 minit

Selepas kejadian menimpa pelajar Malaysia yang diserang di London, Asyraf kini menjadi simbol dan ikon kepada kejadian tragis itu. Serangan itu turut dikutuk Perdana Menteri Britain, David Cameron.

Pelajar Malaysia yang cedera diserang perusuh di London, Mohamad Asyraf Haziq Roslli sudah menjalani pembedahan selama tiga jam 45 minit di Royal London Hospital semalam, 10 Ogos 2011 dan keadaannya kini stabil.

Usaha membawa ibu bapa Asyraf ke London dengan semua perbelanjaan ditanggung juga sedang dilakukan Universiti Kaplan, di mana Asyraf sedang mengikuti pengajian tahun satu perakaunan dan MARA iaitu penaja biasiwa Asyraf di United Kindgom.

UMNO juga menyatakan kesediaan membawa ibubapa Asyraf dari Malaysia ke London.



Dalam sidang media di Kota Kinabalu pada jam 6 petang, Khamis 11 Ogos 2011, Menteri Luar Datuk Seri Anifah Aman berkata :

“Mohd Asyraf Haziq underwent surgery for more than 3 hours to insert a metal plate in his jaw between 1 pm to 4.45 pm on 10 august 2011, his condition is stable, Wisma Putra has updated to his mother Puan Maznah Abu Mansor.”

Mohd Asyraf Haziq telah menjalani pembedahan lebih 3 jam untuk memasukkan logam ke rahangnya mulai jam 1 petang hingga 4.45 petang semalam, 10 Ogos 2011 bersamaan Rabu keadaannya stabil.

Wisma Putra telah memaklumkan perkembangan itu kepada ibunya Puan Maznah Abu Mansor.

Kata Anifah, Universiti Kaplan di mana Asyraf mengikuti pengajian tahun pertama bidang akauntan juga telah memaklumkan hasrat untuk membiayai kos membawa ibubapa Asyraf ke London untuk melawat anak mereka.

Hasrat itu telah dikemukakan kepada Timbalan Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Malaysia di London.

Serangan ke atas Asyraf dikutuk pelbagai pihak termasuk Perdana Menteri Britain, David Cameron.

Pada masa sama, Anifah menasihatkan warga Malaysia di Britain supaya berhati hati dan menjaga keselamatan serta menjauhkan diri dari kawasan dilanda kekacauan.

Namun katanya keadaan di Britain dilaporkan semakin tenang meskipun kekacauan belum reda sepenuhnya.

Ketika ini, 1,030 orang telah ditangkap polis britain dan 251 sudah didakwa di mahkamah kerana keganasan dan mencuri sehingga Rabu 10 Ogos 2011

Usaha mengesan perusuh yang mencederakan Asyraf juga giat dijalankan polis Britain.

Dan akhirnya, seorang pemuda British bodoh bernama Reece Donovan, berusia awal 20an dari Romford, timur London, telah ditahan pada Khamis 11 Ogos 2011 oleh Polis Metropolitan London dan dibawa ke mahkamah pada Sabtu 13 Ogos 2011.

Anifah juga menasihatkan rakyat Malaysia supaya tidak terlibat secara langsung dengan rusuhan samada menjadi perusuh atau mencuri.

Semoga Asyraf cepat sembuh dan semoga kekacauan di Britain akan reda secepat mungkin dan situasi kembali normal.

Update on the London riot, Thursday 11th August 2011

This is the update of the London riot, as told by Malaysian Foreign Minister, Datuk Anifah Aman in a press conference in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia on 6 pm Thursday 11th August 2011 or 11 am on 11th August 2011, London time.



1. The 20 year old Malaysian student, Mohd Asyraf Haziq Roslli (circled red in the picture above) has successfully underwent a 3 hours 45 minutes surgery from 1 pm to 4.45 pm on 10th August 2011 at the Royal London Hospital. The surgery was to insert a metal plate in his jaw. His condition is stable. Asyraf was injured in his jaw after being attacked by a group of rioters at Barking, London on Tuesday 9th August 2011. His mother, Puan Maznah Abu Mansor has been notified on his condition.

2. The chief executive of the Kaplan University, the insitution where Mohd Asyraf is studying, has met the Deputy High Commissioner and a Mara official at Royal London Hospital on 10th August 2011 and made an offer to bear the cost of flying Asyraf's parents to London. MARA and UMNO also indicated its intention to arrange to bring Asyraf's parents from Malaysia to London.

3. No new report on other Malaysians being attacked in Britain as of Wednesday 10th August 2011.

4. British Prime Minister David Cameron spoke to the press and expressed his anger over the attack on Asyraf, his comments followed repeated showings of the video of Asyraf being attacked and robbed on TV channels and Youtube. As a result, the Royal Hospital in London was swamped with journalists from local and international media to obtain updates on Asyraf's condition.

5. At the end of Wednesday 10th August 2011, the 5th day since the breakout of riots on Saturday 6th August 2011, London and other major cities in the UK did not register any breakout or new riots.

6. 16,000 police officers have been kept busy patrolling the cities and tracking down rioters based on various evidences such as pictures and videos.

7. In general the present situation in the United Kingdom can be termed as generally calm even though the fear of violence has not fully subsided. Many shops chose to close early for fear of possible new outbreaks of violence.

8. To address potential riots, the British government has endorsed the use of plastic bullets and water cannonc to disperse the rioters. This is the first time water cannons are being used in England as it was previously endorsed only for use in Northern Ireland.

9. Reece Donovan, from Romford, a town just east of London, who is in his early 20s, has been charged with robbing Asyraf, a London Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

Donovan was arrested on Thursday 11th August 2011 and appeared in court later on Saturday 13th August 2011, the spokesman added.

Mohd Asyraf Haziq Roslli perlu membawa Mini Gun ketika diserang di London

Kasihan sungguh kita melihat gambar dan video pelajar Malaysia di Universiti Kaplan, Mohd Asyraf Haziq Roslli yang diserang dan dirompak sekumpulan belia yang merusuh di London.

Asyraf, 20 tahun diserang di stesen Barking, London ketika dalam perjalanan membeli juadah berbuka puasa.

Akibat serangan itu, rahangnya patah, beberapa giginya tercabut. Bukan setakat itu sahaja, basikal dan dompetnya dicuri golongan jahat itu.

Asyraf adalah pelajar tahun satu perakaunan, Universiti Kolej Kaplan, tajaan MARA.

Serangan ke atas Asyraf dikutuk kerajaan Malaysia dan juga Perdana Menteri Britain, David Cameron serta ribuan rakyat Malaysia dan England.

Bagi saya, Asyraf pasti terselamat dan perusuh itu pasti lari lintang pukang jika dia membawa senjata canggih lagi ampuh dikenali Mini Gun yang boleh memuntahkan 3,000peluru seminit.

Contoh Mini Gun adalah seperti yang digunakan dalam filem Predator dan Terminator 2, Judgement Day.


Jika Asyraf ada membawa Mini Gun seperti ini, pasti penyerangnya akan lari dan menangis.

Rusuhan di Britain 2011, rakyat Malaysia dinasihat berhati hati jika berada di negara itu

Kita tidak menyangka kekacauan dan huru hara boleh berlaku di Britain, negara maju yang lazimnya aman damai.

Segala galanya dicetuskan oleh seorang penjenayah Mark Duggan, 29 tahun, seorang pengedar dadah jenis kokain dah ahli geng Star.

Menteri Luar, Datuk Seri Anifah Aman berkata kerajaan Malaysia akan mengambil langkah susulan untuk melindungi keselamatan rakyat Malaysia di United Kingdom jika keadaan semakin meruncing.

Pada masa sama, rakyat Malaysia khususnya pelajar Malaysia di negara dinasihatkan mengambil langkah berjaga jaga meskipun belum ada amaran perjalanan dikeluarkan ke atas rakyat negara ini yang ingin berkunjung ke Britain.

Langkah berjaga jaga yang dimaksudkan termasuk memaklumkan kedudukan mereka kepada pejabat pesuruhjaya tinggi Malaysia di London serta menjauhi kawasan rusuhan yang kian serius dan sudah merebak ke beberapa bandar utama di Britain termasuk Liverpool, Nottingham dan Bristol.

Datuk Anifah yang mengadakan sidang media di Kota Kinabalu pada malam Selasa 9 Ogos 2011 turut menasihatkan rakyat Malaysia di England agar menjauhkan diri dari kawasan rusuhan.

Katanya kerajaan pada masa ini belum sampai ke tahap mengeluarkan amaran perjalanan bagi mereka yang mahu ke Britain.

Namun jika mereka berhasrat ke Britain termasuk ke London, mereka perlu berhati hati dan mengelak kawasan rusuhan yang kini sudah merebak ke luar London seperti Liverpool dan Bristol.

Anifah berkata keluarga pelajar tajaan Mara, Ahsraf Haziq, 20 tahun, yang cedera di rahang setelah diserang di Barking, London pada selasa 9 Ogos 2011 sudah dimaklumkan mengenai kejadian itu.

Katanya Ashraf kini dalam keadaan stabil di hospital Royal London, Chelsea dan dijangka menjalani pembedahan secepat mungkin.



Ashraf (gambar atas, sedang terduduk atas lorong) adalah pelajar tahun satu, jurusan perakaunan kolej antarabangsa Kaplan diserang ketika berbasikal untuk pulang ke rumah dari kampus kolejnya.

Dia rakyat malaysia pertama menjadi mangsa kekacauan di London.



Ketika ini dianggarkan terdapat 3 ribu pelajar Malaysia di Britain termasuk Ashraf.

Menurut Anifah, Ashraf Haziq diserang sekumpulan kecil belia yang merusuh di stesen Barking, London dan dia kurang bernasib baik kerana berada di tempat salah pada waktu yang salah. dompet dan basikalnya telah dilarikan dalam kejadian itu.

Katanya sebarang bantuan ke atas Ashraf diuruskan jabatan pelajar Malaysia di London dan Mara.

Sabtu lalu, 13 Ogos 2011, seorang pemuda Britain Reece Donovan, berusia awal 20an dari Romford, timur London, telah dihadapkan ke Mahkamah atas dakwaan merompak Asyraf. Donovan ditahan Polis Metropolitan London pada Khamis 11 Ogos 2011.


Serangan ke atas Ashraf turut dikutuk Perdana Menteri Britain, David Cameron yang berkata "WHEN WE SEE THE DISGUSTING SIDE OF AN INJURED YOUNG MAN WITH PEOPLE PRETENDING TO HELP HIM WHILE THEY ARE ROBBING HIM IT IS CLEAR THAT THERE ARE THINGS THAT ARE BADLY WRONG IN OUR SOCIETY"

Ditanya langkah susulan untuk melindungi pelajar Malaysia di Britain jika kekacauan bertambah serius, Anifah berkata kerajaan akan mengambil langkah susulan apabila sampai ke tahap itu.

Ketika ini kerana ramai rakyat Malaysia yang melawat London di percutian musim panas. Dan mereka dinasihatkan memaklumkan kedudukan mereka di London, begitu juga kepada pelajar Malaysia di London yang tidak pulang ke tanah air ketika cuti musim panas.

Rusuhan di Britain bermula pada 6 Ogos 2011 bersamaan Sabtu dan 6 Ramadhan 1432 Hijrah apabila 200 kaum keluarga dan saudara mara serta sahabat handai Mark Duggan, 29 tahun, lelaki rakyat Britain berkulit hitam yang mati ditembak polis pada Khamis 4 Ogos 2011, mengadakan tunjuk perasaan aman.

Duggan dipercayai anggota geng “Star” dan seorang pengedar dadah jenis kokain ditembak mati dalam Operasi Trident oleh Polis London di Ferry Lane Bridge berhampiran stesen Tottenham Hale.

Namun tunjuk perasaan aman membantah kematian Duggan bertukar menjadi ganas dan rusuhan termasuk membakar kedai dan mencuri barangan dari pusat komersial mula berlaku di Tottenham, Utara London.

Kekacauan berterusan pada hari keesokannya Ahad 7 Ogos 2011 ke beberapa lagi kawasan di London termasuk Wood Green, Enfield Town, Ponders End dan Brixton.

Vandalisma, membakar kedai dan mencuri serta huru hara kemudiannya dilaporkan merebak ke beberapa lagi kawasan di London termasuk Croydon.

Pada Isnin 8 Ogos 2011, kekacauan itu merebak pula ke beberapa bandar utama di luar London termasuk Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham, Bristol, Kent and Leeds.

Sehingga Selasa 9 Ogos 2011, 525 orang perusuh telah ditahan.

16 ribu anggota polis Metropolitan London turut dikerah mengawal bandaraya itu.

Ketika ini hanya polis yang mengawal keadaan, belum lagi dibantu tentera.

Ini insiden kekacauan terburuk di Britain sejak rusuhan 13 Disember 1985 dikenali Brixton Riots.

Rusuhan 1985 itu tercetus setelah seorang penjenayah kulit hitam dikenali Wayne Douglas, 26 tahun mati ketika dalam tahanan polis di Balai Polis Brixton, England.

Douglas sebelum itu merompak pasangan lelaki dan wanita.

Rupert Murdoch attacked by protester

Rupert Murdoch, the Chairman of News Corporation, was attacked on Tuesday, 19th July 2011, by a custard pie-welding protester during his appearance before MPs over the phone hacking scandal which led to the demise of the 168 years old News of The World.

The attacker Jonnie Marbles tweeted just before he attacked Murdoch :

Mr Murdoch’s wife, Wendi Deng, who was sitting behind her husband, leapt to his defence as the man, wearing a checked shirt, tried to hit the media mogul with the pie.

His son, James, who was sitting next to him during the Culture Committee evidence, also jumped up to defend his 80 year-old father.

The protest was seen live on television and the internet. The man was heard shouting: "I got him."

Mr Murdoch was left with foam on his clothing.

The protester was seen being held by police with foam his face and clothing.

Members of the audience described how the protester said "You naughty billionaire" to Mr Murdoch as he carried out the attack.

It will lead to inevitable questions over the security operation surrounding the Murdochs' appearance in Parliament.

The dramatic events led the hearing to be suspended just before 5pm and began again around 15 minutes later.

When the hearing resumed, Labour MP Tom Watson, a vociferous critic of News International, concluded his questioning by telling Mr Murdoch: "Your wife has a very good left hook."

The start of the keenly-awaited hearing in the Wilson Room of Portcullis House was also briefly disrupted as protesters were removed.

The fact that one remained and was able to launch his attack is likely to be the subject of an urgent review of security by Westminster authorities.

WHAT MR MURDOCH SAID AT THE HEARING :

Earlier, Mr Murdoch, the Chairman of News Corporation, told MPs that he does not accept responsibility for wrongdoing at the News of the World.

He told a committee of MPs investigating phone hacking: "I do not accept ultimate responsibility. I hold responsible the people that I trusted to run it and they people they trusted.

He earlier said he was appalled when he heard that reporters had hacked into the voicemails of missing teenager Milly Dowler.

A contrite Mr Murdoch today appeared before MPs and declared: "This is the most humble day of my life".

Sitting alongside his son, James, the 80-year-old media mogul said that he was "more than prepared" to answer the questions of the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee into the phone hacking scandal.



James Murdoch, News Corp's deputy chief operating officer, opened by saying how sorry he and his father were to the victims in the News of the World phone-hacking scandal.

"It is a matter of great regret of mine, my father's and everyone at News Corporation. These actions do not live up to the standards our company aspires to everywhere around the world," he said.

"It is our determination both to put things right, make sure these things don't happen again, and to be the company that I know that we have always aspired to be."

James Murdoch told the committee the company acted "swiftly" as soon as it became aware of fresh evidence over phone hacking following a series of civil actions in 2010, particularly the case involving actress Sienna Miller.

It became apparent that more people than originally believed were victims of the practice, he added.

Mr Murdoch Jnr said: "Subsequent to our discovery of that information in one of these civil trials at the end of 2010, which I believe was the Sienna Miller case, the company immediately went to look at additional records around the individual involved, the company alerted the police and restarted, on that basis, the investigation that is now under way."

He said the company had apologised "unreservedly, which I repeat today," to phone hacking victims.

He added: "The company acted as swiftly and transparently as possible."

Asked by Labour MP Tom Watson whether he had been "misled" by senior employees, Mr Murdoch senior replied: "Clearly."

Mr Watson pointed out that former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks admitted in 2003 that police were paid for information.

Mr Murdoch senior said: "I am now aware of that, I was not aware at the time. I'm also aware that she amended that considerably very quickly afterwards."

Mr Watson said: "I think she amended it seven or eight years afterwards but did you or anyone else in your organisation investigate it at the time?"

Mr Murdoch replied: "No. I didn't know of it.

"I'm sorry, if I can just say something and this is not as an excuse, maybe it's an explanation of my laxity.

"The News of the World is less than 1% of our company. I employ 53,000 people around the world who are proud and great and ethical and distinguished people, professionals in their work.

"I'm spread watching and appointing people whom I trust to run those divisions."

Mr Yates said the Met turned over a "huge amount of staff", many on short-term contracts.

"There are numerous examples from numerous senior people, both within the Metropolitan Police and Metropolitan Police Authority, where people who are known to those people have been employed on a short-term basis and some have even become permanent employees. So it is not unusual."

Mr Yates said he classed Mr Wallis as "a friend", but stressed they were not "bosom buddies".

"I must have been round there once to pick him up for a football match. I would see him maybe two or three times a year," he said.

"Do not get the impression that we are the bosom buddies, living in each other's houses."

Mr Yates insisted he had not carried out "due diligence" when Mr Wallis was given the Met contract, and had only sought "assurances" that there was not anything being chased by the Guardian that was going to embarrass "him, me, the commissioner or the Metropolitan Police Service".

The assistant commissioner was asked about Sir Paul's reference to a No 10 official who recommended they should not disclose information such as Mr Wallis's links to the Yard to the Prime Minister.

Mr Yates said that last September he emailed Downing Street chief of staff Ed Llewellyn offering to brief Mr Cameron on aspects of the hacking inquiry.

"There was an offer in the early part of September 2010 for me to put into context some of the nuances around police language in terms of what a scoping exercise is, what an assessment is...

"That offer was properly and understandably rejected."

Look East, Malaysian Premier, Najib Razak tells Europe

Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak is currently in United Kingdom for a 4 days official visit at the invitation of British Prime Minister, David Cameron.

EUROPEAN investors have been urged to go east as Malaysia is among the top 10 most competitive countries in the world.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak invited British companies to come and see for themselves how Government programmes and policies are transforming Malaysia day by day.

“Experience our fast-growing infrastructure, our vibrant economy and our progressive modern outlook,” he said when addressing a Global Investment Forum at the prestigious Claridges Hotel in London on Friday, 15th July 2011.

He said this growth was achieved by working with the private sector to find new niche areas, sources of growth and ways of gaining a competitive advantage.

“Open, transparent, and even-handed economic stewardship has always been our hallmark in Malaysia.

“We are moderate not just because it's right, but because it works and provides a clear path to economic growth,” said Najib who is on a four-day official visit to Britain.

He added that Malaysia's progress had been built on the bedrock of political, social and economic moderation.

“As income levels in Asia rise, people's demand for goods will stretch increasingly beyond their nation's borders.

“An increase in living standards in the East doesn't cause the West to fall or falter, but instead helps it rise even higher,” he said.

Najib said the New Economic Model would expand the role of the private sector and make Malaysia an even more attractive proposition for global investors.

“It will cut red tape and enhance investment incentives, increase competition and improve the business environment.

“It will also rebalance the roles of the public and private sectors because in the modern world it is no longer good to say the government knows best',” he said.

Najib said those investors who were truly global in their outlook would reap the biggest reward because “the sun may set in the west and rise in the east but it's always daylight somewhere in the world”.

“Today, a car assembled in Dagenham is designed in Denmark, powered by an engine from Tokyo and fitted with tyres from Kuala Lumpur.

“National economic interest is becoming more and more about collective interest and this is why Malaysia has rejected the outdated notion of “taking sides” in international trade and relations.

“We have opted instead for a new multilateralism that works both for Malaysia and for our partners overseas,” said Najib.

While in London, Najib and his British counterpart David Cameron held talks at No 10 Downing Street on Thursday 14 July 2011 as the two historically linked countries moved to bring bilateral relations a notch higher.

The two leaders held talks soon after Najib’s arrival at the famed address in central London on a rather chilly day despite summer being in full swing.

But Najib was greeted warmly by Cameron, both of whom shook hands and posed for photographers and videographers before moving inside for their tete-a-tete followed by a luncheon hosted by the British prime minister.

Earlier, Najib was met on arrival at the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Office by UK’s secretary of state for foreign and commonwealth affairs William Hague, before walking a short distance to 10 Downing Street.

Before that, Najib was joined by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor during an audience with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of the British monarch.

During the leaders' meeting, Malaysia and the UK also signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at curbing trans-border crimes.

Malaysia was represented Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and the UK by its Home Secretary Teresa May.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to provide a framework and formal systematic mechanisms to deal with cross-border and transnational crimes.

“While this may not have been an issue in the past, the ever-changing criminal industry requires us to be more cautious and prompt in handling these crimes,” Hishamuddin said in a press release on Friday 15th July 2011.

The MoU would primarily focus on terrorism, organised crime, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, drug smuggling, forged documents, cyber crime, and the exchange of illegal currency.

Enforcement agencies under the Home Ministry that would be directly involved include the police, the Immigration Department and the International Anti-Drug Agency.

Hishammuddin said the agencies would share intelligence information, skills and research documents.

“We have also conducted research into trends and strategies to overcome cross-border crime and investigation techniques using the latest equipment and methodology.”

Prime Minister Datuk Najib Razak travelled 70,000 kilometres in May alone

In the month of May, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak visited 5 countries, clocking 44,000 miles or 70,400 kilometres to strenghten Malaysia as the premier investment destination in the world, be it foreign direct investment or bilateral trade.

The month of May was a period for renewing international relations with investor countries. I must have clocked over 44,000 miles travelling across three continents – Europe, North America, and of course, Asia. As my visits are never leisurely, you must excuse me for this lengthy blog as I try to summarise the numerous highlights of my trips.



I first headed to Saudi Arabia to attend a private royal luncheon with His Majesty King Abdullah, which is a rare and great honour. During the private audience with His Majesty, we discussed issues in the Middle East, among others. His Majesty was very gracious with his time, despite having only recently recovered from a medical operation.



My next working visit took me to Qatar, where I met with my counterpart, Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Jassim Jabar al-Thani in a four-eyed meeting. As it was my first official visit there since helming the Government, it was crucial that my visit reinforces Malaysia’s relationship with the Gulf nation.

While there, I also took several individual meetings with Malaysian business owners and Qatari investors. In my meeting with the Qatari Businessmen Association, we highlighted the investment opportunities in both countries, namely in infrastructure, oil and gas, and tourism development.



As Qatar prepares to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022, a massive number of infrastructure projects have been launched in the range of US$140 billion.This paves the way for Malaysian companies to increase our economic presence there, and I urge our firms to make the most of these opportunities.



From the Middle East, I flew to England, arriving in London on Sunday evening. My visit was arranged on the invitation by the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OXCIS) to visit the centre’s new building site, and to deliver a lecture at the historic Sheldonian Theatre. In my lecture to a diverse audience of about 600, I reiterated my stand on moderation in religion and Islam, urging the audience to recognise that the real divide is neither between the East and West nor between people of different faith, but between the extremists and moderates. I spent about 45 minutes touring the OXCIS building construction, co-funded by Malaysia and several other Islamic countries. Hopefully, this remarkable building and the institution it houses will be a beacon of tolerance and understanding between Islam and the West. As always, I also try to make myself available to meet with the Malaysian community overseas when I visit, so the opportunity to meet with the our students there was not missed.







After a two-day visit, it was off to the United States. Following my bilateral meeting with President Obama in April last year, our countries had expressed commitment to broaden cooperation. My visit this time focused on attracting business investors and My first stop was New York, where I launched Invest Malaysia 2011 at the NYSE to an audience of over 360 potential investors. As the largest foreign investment partner for Malaysia, the confidence of American firms in our economic climate must be bolstered. From my interactions with the business community there, I am optimistic that foreign direct investment will continue to pour in, as a several multinational companies have already stated their intention to invest up to US$6 billion. This means more jobs for Malaysians.






Another highlight of the trip was the inaugural Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC) meeting, which I chaired, at the New York Academy of Sciences. Here, I spoke about a Digital Malaysia Masterplan in development, which is a centralised approach to capitalise on key opportunities from the increasing digitalisation of the world. Hopefully, this council, whose members comprise prominent scientists and experts from various fields, will help Malaysia seek innovative technological solutions to carry ourselves forward and out of the middle-income trap.

I also partook in a roundtable meeting with the US Chamber of Commerce, as well as individual meetings with some US corporate leaders, and witnessed the signing of three MoUs.

From New York I travelled on to Washington, and then Maryland, the home of the renowned Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. While there I was thrilled to announce that the university will be establishing a medical programme in Malaysia beginning September this year, through a collaboration with Perdana University in Serdang. This way, world-class education is now available, as they say, in our own backyard.




On a personal level, it was a joy to take some time during my trip to witness my daughter receiving her Bachelor of Science degree at the Georgetown University graduation ceremony. If you are a parent, I’m sure you can relate when occasions like this reaffirm our belief that we have done our best as parents to guide and nurture our children towards adulthood. It was, in a word, bittersweet.





My visit to the US ended; I flew back to Malaysia a bit sooner than scheduled. After being briefed of the tragic landslide incident in Hulu Langat while overseas, I resolved to visit the site and the survivors. Immediately upon arriving in Malaysia, my family and I headed to the site to survey the damage caused by the landslide, then to Ampang Hospital to lend moral support to the victims.




Two days later, I headed for Japan for a brief working visit to address the delegates at the 17th International Nikkei Conference in Tokyo. I received confirmation that some RM3.8 billion worth of investments will be coming in from Japanese firms, a positive sign for both countries, as Japan had been more inclined to direct their funds to rebuild the nation following the earthquake and tsunami incident last March. Before returning, I also met with Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto and industry leaders from the Japan-Malaysia Economic Association.

It was a whirlwind trip, to say the least, but I am optimistic with Malaysia’s future, thanks to the encouraging responses and outcomes from my visits, and the promise of more and better jobs for Malaysians.

Seorang anak Kota Belud yang berada di London, 2 hari sebelum perkahwinan gilang gemilang itu, merakamkan tinta dan nota mengenai kemeriahan yang dirasakan di Kota London, 48 jam sebelum perkahwinan diraja itu.



Kelihatan Mohd Azrone Sarabatin dari Kota Belud, Sabah di hadapan Istana Buckingham, London, 48 jam sebelum perkahwinan diraja itu. Kelihatan orang ramai dari seluruh dunia sudah membanjiri di hadapan Istana Buckingham untuk memperingati peristiwa bersejarah itu.

PENGALAMAN menyaksikan raptai majlis perkahwinan Diraja pewaris takhta Britain, Putera William dan Kate Middleton di Istana Buckingham, London, Rabu lalu menjadikan penulis seperti berada pada majlis gilang-gemilang yang bakal berlangsung Jumaat ini.

Biarpun tidak berpeluang menghadiri persandingan dua mempelai itu, menyaksikan perarakan kuda pasukan tentera sebagai persiapan majlis perkahwinan serba sempurna, mewah dan meriah itu sudah mencukupi bagi penulis.

Ratusan orang membanjiri persekitaran istana untuk menyaksikan majlis raptai berkenaan bukan saja dari Britain, malah meliputi seluruh pelosok dunia.

Penulis bernasib baik kerana tidak perlu menunggu lama untuk menyaksikan bermulanya raptai berkenaan iaitu lima minit sebaik tiba, pasukan tentera keluar dari pekarangan Istana Buckingham.

Awalnya hanya mahu menyaksikan rutin pertukaran tentera menjaga keselamatan istana, namun tanpa diduga pada hari berkenaan adalah raptai majlis perkahwinan diraja.

William dan Kate akan ke Istana Buckingham selepas majlis perkahwinan mereka di Gereja Westminster Abbey.

Kira-kira dua bilion penduduk dunia dijangka menyaksikan majlis perkahwinan diraja di gereja Westminster Abbey pada 29 April ini, apabila upacara itu akan disiarkan secara langsung.

Kemeriahan perkahwinan kedua-dua mempelai semakin terasa apabila akhbar dan majalah di London saling bersaing untuk mendapatkan berita eksklusif majlis berkenaan.

Akhbar Daily Mirror, The Mail, Daily Star, The Daily Telegraph dan London Evening Standard misalnya sentiasa mengemas kini data majlis perkahwinan berkenaan termasuk untuk siaran pada muka depan.

Kolumnis The Daily Telegraph, Cecelia Walden, misalnya menemuramah pereka pakaian Kate, Sofea Cranston mengenai gaun pengantin yang bakal dipakai pengantin perempuan itu.

Pelbagai sudut penulisan diketengahkan termasuk temu ramah bersama rakyat Britain dan pengawal Istana Buckingham untuk mendapatkan berita menarik mengenai Putera William dan penerimaan mereka terhadap Kate.

Begitulah hebatnya majlis perkahwinan berkenaan untuk menarik minat pembaca, sekali gus meningkatkan jualan akhbar masing-masing.

Peniaga turut mengambil peluang meningkatkan pendapatan menerusi jualan barangan cenderamata tertera gambar Putera William-Kate, antaranya rantai kunci, pelekat magnet, gelas, sapu tangan, tuala, pinggan, baju, beg dan bendera.

Tinjauan penulis mendapati barangan berkenaan mendapat permintaan tinggi daripada pelancong asing untuk dibawa pulang ke negara masing-masing sebagai kenangan.

Barangan berkenaan mudah ditemui di kedai cenderamata, kedai tepi jalan dan ada yang dijaja di sekitar Kota London.

Lucu juga apabila seorang pemilik kedai tepi jalan berseloroh meminta penulis membayar STG5 (RM25) kerana mengambil gambar cenderamata tertera gambar Putera William-Kate di lot kedainya.

Dalam hati kecil penulis terdetik 'peniaga ini mengambil keuntungan mudah.' Mungkin peniaga terbabit tidak berpuas hati kerana penulis asyik merakamkan gambar dan tidak membelinya.

Peniaga yang berasal dari Albania dan hanya mahu dikenali Deck itu turut mengakui perkahwinan diraja memberi keuntungan kepada mereka menerusi jualan barangan cenderamata.

"Ramai pelancong yang mengagumi Putera Williams-Kate yang pastinya ini memberi kesan positif kepada kami kerana mereka akan membeli cenderamata sebagai kenangan," katanya.

Malah penulis sendiri menerima SMS daripada sahabat handai di tanah air supaya membeli cenderamata berkenaan sebagai memperingati hari bersejarah Putera William-Kate.

Ringkasnya, barangan cenderamata terbabit turut memeriahkan lagi majlis perkahwinan diraja yang hanya menunggu masa untuk dilangsungkan.

Seorang pemandu teksi, Marc Richard, 40, mengakui ramai pelanggannya di kalangan pelancong warga asing dari Asia yang membeli pelbagai cenderamata memaparkan gambar atau imej William-Kate.

Katanya, golongan terbabit bukan saja membeli barangan berkenaan untuk dihadiahkan kepada sanak saudara, malah untuk sahabat handai dan kenalan di negara masing-masing.

"Ini membuktikan rakyat dunia sangat teruja menantikan saat bahagia perkahwinan William-Kate seperti mana kami tidak sabar menunggu detik berkenaan," katanya.

William mula jatuh hati pada Kate pada malam pertunjukan fesyen ketika putera raja itu berada pada semester kedua di Universiti St Andrews, Scotland pada 2001.

Sedang Kate memperagakan fesyen di atas pentas, pewaris takhta Britain berkenaan yang berusia 19 tahun ketika itu berbisik kepada rakannya, Fergus Boyd: "Wow! Gadis ini memang menawan."

Beliau membayar STG200 (RM1,000) untuk tiket tempat duduk depan dan apabila Kate muncul bersama baju yang jarang dengan pakaian dalam serba hitam, William terpaku.

Selepas menghadiri satu majlis selepas acara itu, William mula mengorak langkah. Dia dan Kate, yang ketika itu berusia 20 tahun, berbual dengan penuh mesra di satu sudut. Sebaik mereka melagakan cawan untuk meraikan kejayaan Kate.

Kini detik bahagia itu diabadikan pada akhbar dan barangan cenderamata yang menghiasi kota London dan kemudian dibawa ke seluruh pelosok dunia meliputi negara asal pelanggan.

Prince William and Kate Middleton to follow footsteps of royal predecessors marriage at Westminster Abbey

The famed and historical Westminster Abbey in London will be watched by approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide on TV to celebrate the royal wedding of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales and Catherine Middleton or better known as Kate Middleton.

The royal wedding is scheduled at 11 am, 29 April 2011 which is a Friday.

The Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066 and is the final resting place of seventeen monarchs.

The present church, begun by Henry III in 1245, is one of the most important Gothic buildings in the United Kingdom, with the medieval shrine of an Anglo-Saxon saint still at its heart.

Kings, queens, statesmen and soldiers; poets, priests, heroes and villains - the Abbey is a must-see living pageant of British history.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will be following in the footsteps of royal predecessors who have married at Westminster Abbey.



Queen Elizabeth II, who is Prince William's grandmother also had a red carpet when she married the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey.



Prince William's father, Prince Charles the Prince of Wales married Lady Diana Spencer on 29 July 1981 at St Paul's Cathedral, in London, the second largest building in United Kingdom.
